They will ask for your partner number. I don't know if they'll talk to you without it, but they take this stuff very seriously. They're the friendliest people ever, I think, and they want to help you. Don't be afraid to call them.

I would write everything down including dates before you call. Maybe that will help you to feel more comfortable talking about it? The people at the Partner Contact Center are extremely friendly and will make sure you are okay talking about it. You can do it anonymously I am sure but do you really want the harassment to continue? Oh and I am with Baron..do be careful who you talk to about it.

Phone is the official way to handle this. You shouldn't have to tolerate this behaviour. By all means, open a complaint. If you're really truly concerned about dealing with the fallout, nobody can force you to give your name or even your store number. Just call and talk to the folks, and they can clarify what the policies and procedures are. If you like, you can sleep on it before calling again and giving info.

If you're concerned about your privacy, don't tell any of your fellow in-store partners what you are doing. You may think you can trust some of them, but gossip has a way of getting around a store.

The last time something like this happened at my store (it was a shift supervisor), they were gone after a couple of weeks of the phone call. Sbux takes this stuff seriously.

[EDIT: The fact that I even know about this incident highlights why you don't want to tell other partners what you are doing. I am a barista. There is absolutely no reason why I should have known about the investigation in question. I didn't even seek information on it (I try to avoid participating in the store gossip); it was given to me unsolicited.]

Expect long hold times. Set aside some time when you're not distracted, and be prepared to make a few attempts at calling before getting through.

Hi

My manager has made several inappropriate comments about my body. At first I tried to shrug if off but now I can't. I've lost my new hire packet and cant find any resource to contact human resources anonymously. I'd prefer an email address, because I don't feel comfortable talking about this on the phone.

Any help would be appreciated

You said you did well when you were borrowed out. Maybe you could talk to an SM at one of those neighboring stores and try to borrow there a lot? Plus, I've never done a transfer, but I've read here that it's more important for the receiving SM and DM to approve your transfer than your current SM. What will work against you will be bad review scores. Still, make your reason for transferring not related to your SM; another store is more convenient for you to reach by transportation, the other store has a higher tip average, the hours you get there fit better with your schedule, etc.

Good luck!

I've been with Starbucks for 9 months and it is nothing compared to my tedious 2 year job I had previously. This certainly takes the cake, and my manager is mostly to blame.

I had a shift who didn't like me very much. She didn't understand my sense of humor. She was really the only one who had an issue with me (and we didn't work often), but still, she had a few conversations with my manager about me. I got spoken to. Then she started gossiping, spreading all these lies — Long story, short: He took her side. He let all of the stuff she was saying paint a horrible picture of me, which is really upsetting because I pride myself on my job. Everytime I get borrowed as a barista, the other manages gush about me and tell him about how well I do at their stores! But still, he feels this way about me. Ever since this, he hasn't liked me at all.

Another thing that's very uncomfortable is that my manager is a flaming homosexual. Not that I have any issues with gay people, but he says things that are very uncomfortable sometimes — mocking typical black women and/or being somewhat creepy. I say this with no disrespect to anyone gay, but what's really gotten strange... is the fact that he only hires gay people now. I do not discriminate, ever, but honestly, it seems as if sometimes he lets good people slip through the cracks because they're not a carbon copy of him.

Also, my manager is a major dress code Nazi. Sure, is what he is enforcing dress code? Yes, but I feel like because I don't play into his games I don't get any sympathy. For example, a girl whom I work with came in crying one day because her dad got mad at her. She was wearing perfume and purple uggs. Her little game certainly sufficed with him and she got to go on the floor. Just this last week however, at 5:30 AM, I tell him how my mom accidentally threw out my work shoes and I get sent home for coming in black leather shoes WITH WHITE LACES. I asked if I could take the laces out, and he said that "that was unprofessional." I had to call my mom, whom was halfway across town doing her OWN job to come get me. Let's just say she is very into my quitting as well.

Overall though, to summarize... I don't hate my job at all. I hate my manager. I hate my store. It has seriously tainted my experience with Starbucks, but I don't want to go through the process of finding a new job because the pay is good and steady...

I want to ask for a transfer, but something tells me he wouldn't let me. Not to say I won't give it a try, but how should I approach this situation? I'm thinking of telling a few white lies, but then just being brutally honest at the core: we don't get along. Some people just aren't the same types of people, and I don't think I should be faulted for it, right? Afterall, when I was hired, I said I wanted 14-18 hours/week. The last 3 weeks I have gotten 8 hours and it's frustrating.

Please give me your feedback and tell me what I should do about transferring! Am I not being rational as far as my situation goes? This is very little detail, but.. Meh.

Thanks!

Our store just switched to a new system. No more paper applications at all; you cannot apply in store, only online. Certain positions are flagged as "evergreen," meaning they will always be available to apply for, even if we don't currently need to hire. The computer asks a bunch of questions and pre-screens applicants. (I never even see the applicants who get DQ'd by the computer, I think for legal reasons they don't want us to know reasons why.)

^this is true. Current applicants are background-checked. If you don't pass it, the SM will never see your application. Unfortunately, I don't know what specific offenses will keep you from getting hired.

I had two friends working at the store I got hired at, I only had one interview and got the job. My friends told me when to put in the application and would text me when to call the store to talk to the manager. Super easy.
However, someone I work with now called my store every day for weeks before getting interviewed. It just depends.
Also, sometimes, depending on the things on your application, the system will boot your application out before it even makes it to the SM (so I've been told, idk how factual that is).

The first time I applied, it was to five locations and only one of them interviewed me (i followed up on all five places) like a month after my application went in. The SM said he'd have me in for a second interview within the following week and never got back to me. When I called, they said they had filled the position.

When my application had reset, I had applied again to five locations (few were different than last time) and got called for an interview the next day. The interview was with both the SM and ASM and when we were done, they told me they were still interviewing other people within the next couple days and would get back to me after. A couple days later I was offered the job.

The point of my post is a lot of it has to do with luck. I was a little more prepared for my interview the second time but I still feel I did okay for the first and availability was pretty decent both times around.

Keep applying if you really want the job as you say you do. However it's not all glamorous as you think it is haha. You have to just take a lot of **** at times and for me at least, it was tough to pick up on the job since I had no prior experience as a barista.

I applied online and three weeks later I got a call for an interview. A week after that I was called and hired. I never called to ask for updates or anything.

A lot of times when people would call the store asking about their applications my SM told me to just take their info and idk if he ever did anything with that info. After a while we finally got my SM to tell us he wasn't hiring so we could tell that to people who applied (before that we had no idea if we were hiring or not)

I applied to like 8 stores. got an interview once and the women seemed totally uninterested in me. Next I had an interview with this guy at a different store who loved me. then i bugged the hell out of them to get my second interview which i did get. This second interview was totally different with 2 women grilling me. I tried to act like myself and spoke about my college major(psychology) and how i enjoy people work blah blah. I went on and tried my best to kiss ****... the store manager kept giving me the squinty eye. I often look at peoples hands when they move them around while talking and i think she thought i was looking at her boobs. Anyway, this second interview was ridiculously hard for a minimum wage job and nobody has called me so i guess i didnt get it. I cant believe that it is so hard to find a low paying job these days. I mean they didnt like that i was a senior in college and that seems to be a reason why starbucks doesnt want to hire me. How is being a student a bad thing? Im sorry im not like you (the 2 store managers who interviewed me) who told me they went to a JC and have now worked for starbucks for ten years. Scuse me for wanting to get a masters degree in my field. I felt overqualified for making coffee but i still wanted and want the job cuz the money would be nice while in school.

Things have changed so much since the new President for Starbucks Canada Annie Young took power. On the surface, seems friendly, but beneath it, she is conniving! Management were expected to drive sales and cut costs by $5.1 million, but there she is, spending tons of money to re-model her office. Also when she first arrived, she even insisted that the car she drives should be a Mercedes. So much for leading by example!!!

thanks for the responses, guys. oh, believe me, I didn't stay and close. here's the problem, though - the shift that was on the phone and was told it was a fire-able offense is sort of the biggest brown noser you'll ever meet in your life, and is now telling me they want "nothing to do with the situation" when I asked if they would be willing to help me out. everyone at my store absolutely hates my manager, but when it comes to actually doing something about it, they all just kind of...walk away. it is incredibly frustrating. I know the other shift who heard the phone conversation will help me out, but not the person who the manager actually said that to. I just find myself being extremely frustrated, and frankly a bit hurt by my co-workers.

My shifts are eall really good except for one who is a douch e bag and I wish he would just get fired. He always does the do as I say not as I do, and he thinks that he is better than everyone and is very rude to fellow barista and shifts. I can go on all day but we all have that one that slipped through the cracks.

they can't legally make you stay. when you're scheduled shift is up, you can up and leave, no question (although it would be nice to clean up any mess you made, restock milks, etc but that's beside the point). for her to say that not staying past your scheduled shift is a 'fire-able offense' is absolutely wrong. for her to also say that you would have to deal with the consequences is also wrong.. if anything it's on HER and the barista who was supposed to come in. i would contact your RM or someone higher up.

I would advise you to have everyone write down their versions of the story (shifts and fellow baristas) and then contact the business ethics hotline and the partner contact centre. It is totally unacceptable for them to force you to stay beyond your scheduled hours. They can ask but you are well within your rights to refuse.

Yesterday I worked a mid shift at my store. I was staying 45 minutes late for a fellow barista who was on his way back from out of state and was the closing barista. He called around noon, and told us he was not going to be able to make it to his shift, as the weather was too bad to get back home. We began calling other baristas from our store, and no one could come in to cover him, so we called other stores, same answer. One of the shifts then called our manager, to see if she could come in (although she strictly says we are not to call her on her days off, great manager, right?). She said she was sick with the stomach flu and claimed the doctor had given her some sort of drug to take that made her unfit to be at work. She then asked who the last person to clock on before the closing shift came in. They imformed her that was me, my shift was 6:15-3:00. The manager told the shift who had called that I had to stay and close since we couldn't find anyone else, and to decline to stay was a "fire-able offense". The shift informed me of what she said, and another girl who was standing right next to her had heard what my manager said, and informed that that is extremely illegal. Not to mention, I am several months pregnant. The manager had the shift put me on the phone, and I confronted her about what she had said. She refused to give me a straight answer, and then finally informed me that I would have to "deal with the consequences" if I chose not to stay. Then told me I was being selfish for not staying and that if I should be angry with anyone, it should be the barista who couldn't show up for work. I have covered shifts for three people this week alone. That would've ended up being a 14-hour shift for me. I went into our store today, and tried to talk to the manager. Now she is lying about everything she said, claiming that none of it was true. Our DM is now involved, and I genuinely feel like our DM and manager watch out for each other, and that they will try and turn this whole thing around on me and try to get rid of me. I want to go to the Labor Board about my boss, but I'm just really honestly not sure what to do. I feel completely backed into a corner. I would really, really appreciate anything any of my fellow partners can give to help me.

^This.

Some of them thrive on treating you like you work for them. No. We work together and you just oversee everything. But when they take such a small title and run with it like it means sooo much it's sad.
