Alright guys... I called partner resources and I turned in my sm and my asm for consistently asking me to work off the clock... Corporate is going to cut me a check for all of the times in the past year or so that I picked up product before work, and have not been paid for!!! They said they are going to investigate further and get to the core issue which is the constant lack of product... you see they have the ability, based on the mileage reimbursement log to see how much and how often the store was paying in mileage due to product pick up!! This is especially comical in that one of my other postings was based on my stores ridiculous lack of product! Thanks for reading... your thoughts...

or the next time they ask you to do a pickup just say your car is in the shop and that you will be taking a cab or bus. ask the company for temporary compensation for your travel costs. give receipts (only works with bus pass). there is also the old stand by of not picking up your phone.

haha i could do it with a straight pin, all you need to do is unplug it stick a straight pin through the positive and negative parts of the power cable then plug it back in and that things toast. just make sure you remove it after or else they will know... oh and don't touch the pin will the cable is still plugged in... fastest way to get electrocuted.

I've been fetching stuff for my store for a year or so now. I always get paid for it, though - I've never done it off the clock. But after a particularly horrid week last month, when we ran out of everything, I've decided that I will no longer get anything from other stores. I mean, literally, we ran out of grande hot cups, venti hot cups, white mocha, soy, coffee filters ... then the next week we ran out of white mocha, soy, strawberry sauce, grande/venti hot lids. The list goes all. My SM is so terribly bad at doing the orders.

My resolution might not last - I'm sort of a sucker for my co-workers, especially the really nice ones who are afraid of being out of products because customers are notorious cankerwhores about outages. I mean, really, is it OUR fault that we run out of ****? No, but try to tell them that. Sheesh.

All the leads at my store, including my manager and asst. all get mileage and hourly!!

Am I right that you have to be a lead or higher to even be able to pick up product? I haven't been able to confirm that?

But heres' what I'm gonna do next time they ask. I am going to drive to work, clock in and then get back in my car, and then I will drive all over the place picking up stuff, when I return, I will fill out the mileage log accordingly!! We'll see what she has to say then, I bet she will stop asking me twice a week LOL!!!!! I live 22 miles from the store I work at!

time worked is always time paid.. except at starbucks. HAHA.

i would get in contact with HR about that or check up on labor laws. if you are doing work for the store, you should be getting paid -- even if it is "off the clock" and during time you aren't scheduled to work.

write the time in the book. if you have to leave like 10-15 minutes earlier to pick up the stuff, put 10 or 15 minutes worked in the book. it's cutting into your personal time. so even though it's "on the way," that extra time is for the sole purpose of doing work for starbucks.

Try this....NO! You do not have to pick it up....They can not make you..If they want you to pick it up and claim your miles...go to work...punch in, go get it, and keep track of your miles. That way you get paid, and track your miles correctly. No where does it say you have to do this, you are doing them a favor...and if your asm and sm could get their head out of their ****, they would get the order under control and no one would have do do this very often...

Just write it in the log as time worked, and when the SM askes you about it just say remeber that I picked up X from store Y. And if they say they cannot pay you for it, tell them to get themselves next time, they are on the clock 24/7.

2Pink-e: Formershift is right on the money. Time worked = time paid! If I have to ask someone to pick up product on their way in, I'll instruct them to clock in when they arrive, then write in the Daily Records book the time they actually started going to that store so the SM can edit the punch and the partner is paid accurately.
As for product pick-ups, I think that it happens way too often because we never order enough! Idk, if I were an SM, I'd rather avoid the hassle of running my partners around town than getting a bonus at the end of the quarter!

Here's the way it works:

You can claim mileage in excess of your commute to work. So, for instance, if you drive 5 miles to your store, you can can be reimbursed for any miles in excess of 10 (round trip). So, you drive from your house to Store A for 2 miles, store A to store B is 6 miles, store B to store C is 4 miles, and store C to your store is 7 miles -- you can take 4 miles (2 + 6 + 4 + 7 - 10). At the IRS rate of $.55 per mile, that would be $2.20. That is based on the IRS rules for business miles. You can choose to be reimbursed for those miles (provided Starbucks allows) or you can deduct them from your taxes (generally -- consult your tax adviser).

If you go to work at your store and are then sent on a trip to a bunch of other stores, you can deduct any miles driven from your store to the other stores, and back. So, if you're at your store and go 3 miles to Store A, 6 miles from A->B, and 4 miles from B->your store, you are entitled to 13 miles ($7.15). Again, either direct reimbursement or on your return.

To show this, here is what I would do (and do in my job) -- have a printout of the miles from your home to your store, from mapquest or google maps. Then, have a print out of the trips you take (your home to Store A, Store B to Store C, etc.). Sum up the total miles driven, and subtract your miles from home to your store and back (round trip commute).

You should be paid for the time you are fetching product, but that is outside my area of expertise.

And, as a note, I am an accountant but not your accountant. This is not tax advice, don't take it as such. Talk to your own tax adviser.

One time when I was noob, my SM asked me if I could do the promo drawings for the Vivanno's. I was excited to do it so I said yes. The end of my shift comes around and she says to me "Ok, now just punch out and you can sit over here and start drawing" Uhhhh what?! Those **** things took me an hour to do them and I did an awesome job compared to some other stores I saw. Looking back, I'm disappointed in myself for not standing up to her, but what my SM did was wrong.

I would have to agree with you pink-e. You should be paid as if you were on the clock when you are running errands for the store (plus receive mileage reimbursement).

If I have to run errands for work and it's a distance where I'm going to keep track of my mileage, I just take the total miles driven and subtract the usual # of miles that I drive to work...and then submit the difference. However, I'm salaried....so if I'm going to pick up something for work on the way in, I just go into work late (I don't have to be there at my usual starting time because I'm not punching a clock). The folks who are hourly actually come to work, punch in, THEN go run the work errands - that way, they are paid for both their time and then they still get mileage reimbursement as well.

So I absolutely agree with you - they are taking advantage of your kindness. You should actually be allowed to clock in at work, then leave and pick up the supplies that your store needs (keeping track of your mileage as you're running around, of course).

OK, I sometimes pick up product for my store. OK not sometimes, this averages twice a week. I am always called at home, a couple of hours before and asked to stop at several stores before my shift. So I was finally after months of doing this told to claim my mileage. So, I would look on the chart and find the last person who had gone to those locations and I would copy thier amount of miles, because it was impossible to figure out how many miles it was because I was going "on my way " to work. I thought that mileage should be claimed based on the distance of one location to another! So just last night my asst. confronted me asking how I was figuring my mileage, I explained to her the same as above. She proceeds to tell me that I am only to claim the actual mileage driven that is "out of my way" ! so that limits my compensation to pennies, even though I often have to leave an hour or so early to have time to stop at one or more stores "on my way" !!! This is time consuming!! I once waited 45 min for a lead to be done with the rush and to make time to get the product for me!
Isn't this ridiculous... They are taking advantage of me BIG TIME! Remember that I am "on my way" to work, so I am not even on the clock while I am running around picking up stuff from other stores. Oh and get this I am only a barista, I am not a lead! I am not even authorized to pick up product, or sign for a transfer of product!

I just wanted to get some feedback from all my fellow haters ;-)

Is this wrong??? Time worked is time paid right??
