Everyone in my store except the store manager steals. We either Mark it out or Sample it. If the store manager is there. We Sample out a pastry and pick on the samples. My DM Told me that if it's not donated, then we have to throw it out (sandwiches). So screw it...I just eat it.

Guess it just depends on where you're at and with whom you work. Technically, if you eat a sellable product, it can be looslsly construed as stealing. Believe me, I've seen someone get axed for marking out a turkey pesto sandwich once. Crucial. I would markout pastry "samples" for myself and my partners, but it was under explicit orders to keep it under wraps.if we're going to share in this liberty, let's not hang ourselves in the process!
As for the gobbledy-**** markout pastries in the bin, WTF cares? The guy who used to pick up ours for the Hungry Children Foundation would consistently be observed eating out of the bin--right there in the friggin' parking lot for all to see!
All in all, I think Sbux throws enough money down the toilet as it is, without fairly recompensing its partners. Eating the markouts is a fringe benefit for the baristas/indentured servants.

Nobody pays for anything at my store. I go in on my day off and get drinks and my SM just marks them out, we can eat anything we want that is not RTD. It has always been that way at my store.

I always sampled food because I didn't want to pay for a lunch elsewhere.
Tastes like plastic anyway, so I'm glad I didn't pay for it.

My store didn't have problems with sampling, but they had problems with marking out food and eating it. Depended on the shifts though, most were alright because they didn't want to waste food.

no one at my store really cares, if you want something just sample it out or mark it out as expired, although many of us don't even enjoy the pastries. after i found out how unhealthy some of things are i stopped eating them, plus our pastries come to us frozen so they're not really 'fresh'

SB is BS really! They can do anything they want to you at anytime! You can sign their stupid form ( the yellow one that says you are a bad barista, or you can refuse) I have refused to sign it when I thought that the charges were wrong. And, as it turn's out they were. There are so many people ready to stab you in the back at this company. If you are thinking about getting a really good job at Starbucks, think again. This place sucks. All you have to do is, accidentally hurt someones feelings! What I mean is that all you have to do is catch someone on a bad day and if they complain about you, corrective action can be taken. So, get a job shoveling **** before you work at Starbucks. I wonder who they pay to put them on the list as one of the best places to work. >>>>If you happen to be a minority, you are GOLD. You almost can't do anything wrong. They are afraid to fire abusive minorities! So serious! Be very careful if you want to work for them. They are a***oles!

Don't be fooled into thinking that you have to be written up 3 times to be terminated. That is a Sbux policy(one they only follow to keep you in line not if they want to get rid of you) not the law. They can let you go any time they want to if you are in an at will state such as Cali. How many of you were let go without having 3 writeups first. I was let go on my first

I always close so I wait till the end of the day to mark out food. however, if it's a breakfast pastry you're supposed to get it out of the case before 1 so if your break is in the afternoon then no one's gonna give a crap if you mark out a donut.

also, about being terminated for stealing food, that's BS they're not gonna just fire you on the spot you need to get written up for something 3 times before they fire you.

I would never pay for anything at the buck. Most of the time I don't want anything from there anyway. Most of that stuff is disgusting. I usually will opt for a quick oatmeal. That can't be too bad for you...right. (and no I am not loading with a bunch of crap) :) No one at my store really abuses the food or taking things, so i guess that is why it is not that big a deal. No one really wants the stuff. If you really want something, just sample it out and cut it into some pieces and offer to other partners working, you can say you want to see how it pairs with "fill in coffee/drink here."

Taking from the donation bin...lesser offense (donate it to starving/sleep-deprived baristas) lol

Taking anything that is still available for purchase(ie not marked out as expired) is stealing and yes is grounds for termination. Often if partners werehungry and had no money especially at the end of the day mgrs will allow them to mark them out as sampled( that uses the markout in a more profitable way) but don't try it without permission if your mgr. fires partners for theft.

Okay I noticed that other Baristas are taking Pastries from the donation bins and They are also marking out sandwiches on their break 3-4 hours before the store closes. Are these actions grounds for being fired. I pay for my pastries because I feel like if I did this it is stealing, even if the pastries are marked out. I wouldn't mind if I saw the Baristas and SS taking Sandwiches, salads, etc.. at the end of the night when they are expired and after they are marked out but isn't it stealing if they do it even before the store closes. I'm not going to tell the Manager because she would probably fire them. Has anyone else witnessed this??
