???? WTF? Sounds like your manager is making up stories. I just recently took a week trip out to LA and never had any of those problems. I had accrued the vacation hours. I asked for the time off in advance. And I wrote the vacation hours in the book. It was easy. I seriously don't know what your SM is talking about. Perhaps, the working 12 months to use them could be true, but the rest of that sounds like made up policy so she can't be inconvenienced. Listen to smellslikecoffee and call the number.

BTW, long distance relationships are tough :(

I've had a whole pay period off before. They just don't send a check. I'm pretty sure you're SM is making stuff up. Call the partner resource number like others have suggested.

It's not me picking it up. Its that i wouldn't work for the two week pay period, and there for would get a paycheck wor $0.00, and that (apparently) can not happen.

yea um that you can never not get a pay check thing sounds like ****. I once completely forgot about my check once didn't end up picking it up till the next pay check came in. I think as long as you use the check before the 90 day void you should be good.

A twelve hour AVERAGE per week makes WAY more sense. That wont be a problem to keep up, since i work 30-40 hours a week typically.

More concerned about this you-can-never-NOT-get-a-paycheck thing. I don't mind finding some random starbucks to work in across the country for a day or two, but it seems like a bizzaro policy.

If I understand your situation correctly, your SM is saying that if you take the vacation, you won't have worked the minimum amount of hours to stay employed. I'm pretty sure that the amount of hours you work per quarter must AVERAGE twelve hours/week. Ergo, you can take time off work but must make up the hours later in the quarter to keep your average up. Hope this is helpful :)

Yeah... I'm starting to think that maybe it's a policy that isn't too strictly followed.... I just really don't want to get canned for something this silly.

It's apparently a somewhat-recent policy change. You can earn vacation hours, but you cannot USE them until you have worked 12 months.

I've been talking to coworkers about this, and someone suggested i try picking up some shifts at a Starbucks across the country while i'm away. Which i'm totally down for, but a friend who's a shift says i'd need to work 12 hours.

So, if i'm getting this right, you can never work less than 12 hours a week and remain employed? This just seems too weird...

That doesn't make much sense to me. We have a partner that takes time off a lot. And she'll take months off at a time to go on tours with her dance whatever it is. I don't really see how that's any different than you taking a couple of weeks off. What about the people that get injured and have to take time off for it? Usually they aren't getting paid for that time, since who really wants to use vacation time for sick days.

That's balls. You don't have enough of our crappy vacation time saved up to divy up among the days and get paid on every payperiod?

And, fifteen days .. that only looks like one payperiod and a day, really. Unless it's one week now instead of two. You may be able to pull it off with as much vaca time as you have saved up and then just work your **** off leading up to this and then afterwards to raise your average.

So, I told my manager that i was going to be out of state for 15 days between February and March to visit my boyfriend who lives on the other side of the country. I told her this about three months ago. I checked the exact dates with her first, made sure that this was an okay thing to do (since i'm relatively new), and she told me that i just needed to make sure i was working 48 hours a month in order to say hired, and give her time in advance to cover my shifts.

Not a problem. Bought my tickets once i was sure everything was good to go...

...but today she tells me that apparently not only do I need to have 48 hours every month, but i have to receive money on EVERY pay period. Meaning; i can never NOT get a paycheck without having a leave of absence. Since the days i'm gone are the 2/27 (Sun) through 3/14 (Mon) i miss a pay period by a day... ARGH. (i've researched personal leaves of absences... looks like you get one every 3 years... woohoo...)

Is this a real policy? I've worked at a lot of places before, and i've NEVER seen a policy like this. Now i'm being told that people have been fired for taking 2 to 3 weeks off... Needless to say i can't change the 330$ tickets i bought two months ago...

Any help or advice on this? I'd really hate to eat $330 and not see my boyfriend for another half a year just for a **** job...
