Persistence and availability got me an interview, I suggest doing some research or visiting regularly so you have an idea of what Starbucks and its products are all about. It also helps to see how the workplace operates and how the partners collaborate in the store you want to work at. Most importantly, carry a positive and ambitious attitude.

I was thinking about 6:30am or around 1pm. I was always impressed when someone came in at 6:30am to give me an application. He might not be there yet...if not and you can spare the time, wait him out. If he knows you waited to see him, it might also impress him.

Our SM is almost never in the store past noon or 1pm. Rush for us is about 7am-10am as well.

I'm not sure with other stores but at our (Downtown Calgary), the morning rush starts at 7 and ends at 11am. I think the best time to come would be around 1pm. Managers don't usually close the store so don't come in late in the afternoon.

That's not too late. Our rush is over about 10:30 or 11 but idk about other stores. If you're going in before the rush make it 7 or 7:30 although if the SM at your potential store is anything like mine, they won't be there. **** doesn't come in till NINE! Must be nice.

*Oh! By the way, what time would be a good time "before the rush"? I'm not quite sure, I was planning on going at around 10-11am is that too late?

I think that's a good outline for most interviews. Use some common sense and don't be a slob. Don't slouch. Actively listen. Know when to ask questions and don't interrupt. Wait till they're seated before sitting. Firm handshake. Blah blah blah....everything that goes into a good first impression.

Former Manager on "Getting a job?"

I would walking in at a time when the manager is there...try early in the morning before the rush or late morning, just after, during the week. I always wanted to meet the person handing in an application, and if that person showed up really early, it showed me he could get out of bed and to the store at a time when I would need him.

You don't have to dress well, but look nice, of course. If you come dressed in a black collared shirt with khaki pants, it's a bonus (it shows you already dress in dress code).

The key things are the same as for any job. When asked why you want to work there, don't say it's because you need a job. Research the company and some benefits of working there and mention specific thigns that appeal to you. Tell them about your friends who work there and that they make it sound good. The KEY things I was looking for were people who were friendly, smiley, outgoing, and seemed professional and sincere. Make your availability as open as possible, but when I interviewed someone who seemed like a great hire, availability was of secondary importance.

During the interview, do's and dont's:

Do:
Take the free drink he should offer. Know what you want ahead of time - it will seem like you're familiar with the product.
Ask questions about the culture of the store, what the best and worst thing about working there is, what the opportunities are for advancement.
Ask the manager about himself and his Starbucks career.

Dont's:
Say you hate coffee. Even if you do, don't say it, but say you'd be willing to try to learn to like it.
Mention priors.
Stare at passing girls' ****, as tempting as it may be.
Ask how easy the place would be to rob.
Profess love for Hitler/Osama BL.

Follow these tips, and you're in like Flynn!

I would suggest the online application first, then go see the manager in person. When someone walks in or calls us asking for a job, we direct them to the website to apply. Otherwise our manager's desk would be covered in post-its.

Despite the purpose of this forum, I am thinking of applying to Starbucks. I know a couple people who work at Starbucks where I live (Vancouver) and they seem to not mind it. Do you guys have any tips as to how to make a lasting impression or what kind of things they look for? Also, I know Starbucks now accepts online applications but my friend who works at the location I'm applying at says to come in and apply directly to the manager - is this a better idea? Thanks guys.
