We have a regular who has two preschool aged girls who are SO incredibly loud. I have kids myself, so I am relatively immune to kid noise, but these two are in a league of their own. I call them the Howler Monkeys. Today, the mom decided to hang out in the cafe for about a half hour, chatting with some other lady, and the Howler Monkeys decided to give a concert to the rest of the customers, singing some screechy preschool songs over and over. He had come yelling at us time and again, complaining that the loud store music was "like a concert" and that he can't hear anything else. I think my shifts raise the volume when they see him come in nowadays. We get the occasional loud group that causes everyone else to talk over them so its just a cacophany of loud voices. At that point, we turn up the music and then behind the line we shout about how loud it is. Like, "I CAN'T WAIT TO GO HOME AND GET SOME PEACE AND QUIET!". Its passive aggressive and never works but its still funny. Usually the loud ones come at night and I've witnessed some AMAZING displays of b!tchiness from the night crew. Kid is running around lobby screeching so effin loud! He had one of those shrill screams that makes the hairs on the back of your head stand up. Mother is yakking away on the phone. She comes up to the counter and this is the conversation that followed.</p> <p>Woman: Excuse me, this feels like a concert! I can't hear my conversation over this music!</p> <p>Me: Lady, are you serious? Do you know how many customers have come to ask if we can do anything about your screaming kid? (zero) We had to compromise with them by saying the only thing we could do was turn up the music. If you can get him to be quiet, I will more than gladly turn the music down.</p> <p>Woman: (drops jaw)</p> <p>Me: (smiles, walks away) </p>
