I'm glad to hear it's going well for you! (:

I'm also in my new store, the training seems easy to me the hard part is getting back into the swing of things, I feel like i've been derailed back to barista day-1. New store, new partners, new regulars to learn. It can be frustrating some days since I got so comfortable with my old store, but I'm just trying to keep my head up and keep in mind that this is all new to me.

I'm bumping this to see how it's going?

I am in my new store now, and it seems to be going pretty well, although learning about a new store and learning a new position is kind of a lot to deal with. I don't hate it, I don't love it yet, it just is what it is, I guess!

Thanks for all of the feedback guys!

@ MobilizedPartner - That's part of the reason I pushed the shift issue as much as I did.. I was being told what to do by individuals who just wanted to stand around chat, and hand out free product to their friends all day.

@ GaveYouDecaf - I don't talk down to anyone and I really don't like to be bxtchy (for lack of a better term) unless I absolutely have to be, I already bust my butt and inspire my team to do the same through example, now I can actually direct shifts and be a bigger part of it, and hopefully make working at the bux more pleasant for my new baristas when they see there's actually shifts out there willing to break a sweat working v.s. spending hours in back working on "shift stuff" that in reality takes no more than 10 minutes to complete if that.

I vote against asking them if it's okay that they go on register, you need to tell them that's where they are going. Simply be nice about it. Now if two people come in at the same time, I always give them the choice. Do let them know from the beginning that any feedback they give you will be greatly appreciated. Make sure when they give you feedback that you actually take it into consideration and thank them for it. Basically, show them you are confident with your authority, but don't abuse it and treat them like second citizens. Very important: work twice as hard as anyone in your team, that will earn you the most respect out of anything.

No matter what, always show you are in control of yourself and the situation. Don't ever give them a reason to think you're weak. Its then they'll truly lose their respect for you.

Nothing pxssed me off more than being told what to do by emotional, idiotic "baboons" who didn't know shxt, were dismissive and closed to really learning anything. Its called each one, teach one! On a team, everyone has something to contribute. Even if they don't want to.

I did the same thing, transferred to a store with older partners who had been with the company for a lot longer than me. My advice is just fall into what they do as far as cleaning tasks, etc. I worked mornings at my old store and still do, and I did wait a few weeks before I brought some of my own ideas for running a rush into play at the store. I didn't want to come in and assume I had the power to change everything because I have worked with shifts at my old store who did that- and it drove me out of my mind.
I find that age is not an issue at my store- I am mature for my age and somehow this job feels like the great equalizer. The good thing about partners who have been with the company for a long time, as well as partners who are older, is that you are dealing less with stupid drama and also less with people who don't want to effing work. That's been my experience at least... I'd rather work with older partners than the majority of the younger people I have worked with.
Oh and I only read about half of the books and ran one shift at my old store before transferring. I found that it did not really make a difference, I learn by doing and so for the first 3 weeks maybe, I felt like I had no idea what I was doing and I was so stressed... but after that it all became routine and now I have my shifts down to an exact, planned out science, lol.
Good luck guys- I promise, it's easier/less stressful than you're making it out to be- I know because I was such a ball of anxiety before transferring and right after and now I am so glad I did it.

I am going in having read the books. That's it. I haven't even run a shift yet. I have no days off between my last day at my current store and my first day at my new store. I am fukked. I am honestly not that worried about getting along with the new partners or telling them what to do, since I am sure it'll be easier than if I was to be promoted in my current store... It's just that I don't want to look like an idiot running shifts by myself, having no idea what exactly I'm doing.

Thats completely understandable, is there a huge difference between running a night v.s. a morning? I know morning shifts pretty well since I worked the A.M. as a barista but I haven't worked nights in I don't know how long, and thats going to be my new position, a closer. Thanks again for your time. (:

Lol @ rule breaking baboons. Very nice.

At the end of the day, you are their superior. Give them the benefit of the doubt that they will respect that, but do keep in mind the sensitivity of your delegation. Just try to not to seem so bossy. Say things like, "Can you work the register today?" Instead of, "Ok. Get on R1." Know what I mean.

Its always nice to feel respected, regardless of anything. You gotta learn ya partners before you earn ya partners!

@ Artesian Sausage McMuffin - Lol this is going to be interesting for the both of us then, I had asked my current SM if he thought it was a good idea to shadow someone before I left and he said, "Ahh.. no, I'm sending you over there fresh, a new start." Wtf.... :/

I am in the same boat, and I am into any advice that can be given as well! I am not going into a store with older partners, but I am afraid to be transferring over to a store I've never worked in, with minimal supervisor training.

Hey guys, long time lurker first time poster here - I just have to say thank you for providing me with class-a entertainment after working at the bux all day I always get a good laugh.

Anyways..
I'm transferring to a new store as a shift (up from a barista) the issue here being the partners there are much older than I am, current shifts and baristas alike so i'm a bit nervous about delegation and coming off as if I'm just some punk a** kid telling my elders what to do. I realize transferring is a struggle in itself and I felt that right away when I worked a shift there just to get a feel for the store, going from rule breaking baboons to a store that full of standard police was earth shattering for me.

I know a few of you around here are shifts and/or have been to more than one store, any tips on delegating to an older crowd, picking up on a new stores routine, anything that might be beneficial to know. Thanks!
