Failbux, I feel like I've met you before. You're mannerisms are that of someone I work with.

Of course, I agree with you completely. I'm not defending the company's integrity by any means, I'll be first to say it's **** sideways. I'm just saying, in the end it doesn't own us, and while we may have tons of our best memories from there, we move on. Keep our heads up, and perhaps one day a bunch of us ex-starbucks grunts will make our own corporation, or find our niche in society. All good things come to an end, and like you said I'm sure karma will undoubtably reach Howard and his ilk. Respect.

Failbux...

Don't get me wrong, it was good long ago. But the freedom of never having to put that green/black apron on is looking sweeter than the nectar of Gods. It is just crazy to me how such a huge company can come tumbling down in a matter of years. My theory is that it is Karma. We are all held accountable for our actions in the end - even corporate tycoons.

After growing with this company and remembering how it USED to be, it's kinda hard to say goodbye. But if Howie and the rest of his minions don't pull it together...

While I won't spoon feed you sympathy, I do have a fair bit of empathy for you. I understand completely how a job can go from great to terrible, and believe me when I say 'I've been there.' The thing is, there's always a tommorow and other jobs. Much luck to you, it's not the end of the world but a small bend in the road. To quote Streetlight Manifesto here, "Somewhere in the between, is a life of which we all dream, and nothing and no one will ever take that away."

That's enough seriousness for me. Also, ****.

I started reflecting on the nearly 6 years of working for Starbucks today, mainly because I will be terminated soon.

When I was hired in 2003, I opened a brand new store and got to see it grow for the next 2 years. I had a GREAT manager - I mean awesome - who put together a team of workers that got along great and were all competent. I met some great people and some of my greatest friends to this day. And we ended up creating a real "neighborhood" store - customers were fun and nice and left us insane tips. We had the occasional riff raff, but overall, I can say with all honesty that it was by far the best job I had ever had. Despite the fact that we all had fun and got along, things never got out of hand or inappropriate. It was just a cool place to work.

Then they switched managers on us and everything turned to ****. It seems to me, that from about the year 2005, the company as a whole has just gone down the toilet. That's when I really started noticing that the employee types they hired were changing and good management was replaced with unqualified rejects. I've worked in a handful of stores and none compare to the first, at all.

I don't see this company really ever bouncing back from the slump it is in. I think Howie waited too long to steer the boat back on course. I just see these different attempts to bring customers back - but they are not paying off. I was under the impression that focusing on coffee meant focusing on coffee. Now there are vivannos and sorbettos and soon clovers. Why not just invest in the clovers - which is - GASP!- something that focuses on the coffee and leave the rest out?

It's just sad to see what this company has come to. But maybe for everyone else - it has always just been bad.
