I work in a moderately busy DT store in Southern California.
Store starts with 3, and by mid day there are 4-6 on the floor depending on the day and time.
So we usually have 1 on DT, 1 on front reg, 1 on bar, 1 floating, and when we're lucky a person to be doing dishes, prep, breaks and lunches, and deep cleaning.

I work in a NYC corner store, serving a commercial burb with local bars and restaurants. During winter weekdays:

... we open with 1 barista 1 shift
2nd barista comes anywhere from 7-9am
3rd barista (precloser) comes in 11-1pm
2nd shift comes in at 2-3pm
... approximately 5 partners on the floor midday
two closing baristas come in at 3pm
opening barista and shift leaves at 2:45-3:30pm
2nd barista leaves at 3:30-5pm
3rd barista leaves at 8-9:30pm
... 2 closers + 1 shift at close

During the summer, it's a peak of 9 people, 2 on their half.

Permanently two. Overlap? lolo wtf is overlap. Senor Cardgage is really an abomination stitched together from the limbs and torsos of five different partners to make up for lack of coverage.

My store is exactly like Allison's store. I always work evenings so I'm usually with one other barista and a shift supervisor.

during mornings, one shift, two registers, one floater and one person on bar.
during afternoons, usually two baristas and a shift. more afternoon partners on weekends.
during the evening, two baristas and a shift until 9pm, then just the closer and the shift.

For me its one barista, one shift. Sometimes on the weekends during the busiest times we have another person...but they usually wind up doing deep cleaning for most of their shift...and someone ALWAYS gets cut early.

We have 5 during our morning rush but our opening barista is only available till 9:30 at the latest during the week... once she leaves then we end up with 4, and then around 10:30 it cuts to 3. Which is of course when I have to be running lunches, doing the depo, etc, and so my least favorite days are when all 3 people need lunches and we end up running our entire afternoon on 2 part coverage. I much prefer to have a bunch of people working 6 hour shifts and only give like 2 lunches, we get more done and then if we cut to 2 part coverage for a bit around 12 it's not so bad because we have everything done because of running on 3 or 4 part coverage all afternoon.
On another note... our closing shift flipped out on me the other day... well, not really flipped out so much as she was SO super cold and b**** to me when I handed over the shift... I cut one girl early that day, she was really super tired because she's been run into the ground with her schedule the past few weeks trying to get enough hours for her benefits before the new year. It was easier for me too because I didn't have to give her a lunch, and we actually had 4 part coverage all afternoon so I could afford to cut to 3 part later on. It was a slow day and we were over on labor too. So this girl comes in and I let her know that she has 3 part coverage and so-and-so is leaving at 1 when I'm leaving. I showed her the schedule changes I made and she goes, "I thought so-and-so was staying till 2". Super b**** in the way she said it. I was like, well yes, but we are over on labor and this and this and this happened today, our entire mid-day tasks are done and we have been so slow today that you do not need this 4-part coverage for the next hour. Keep in mind that the only break she had to still give from my shift was 1 ten as well, and the girl who needed it was off at 3:30 so that wasn't my responsibility- I don't like to give people breaks too early because it annoys them, I work with a lot of people who like late breaks. I don't know... it was just annoying, mostly because I have gotten attitude from this girl every time I've handed over a shift to her and so this upcoming Friday when I hand over the shift to her again I'm going to confront her- it just brings animosity into the work environment and it totally brought my day down after an awesome shift too.

Browsed the site for a long time, finally joined..

From the looks of things, most of you seem to be from big venue stores, which makes me feel really small! x]
What's the average amount of people you usually have on floor at a time?
