I am in Texas. And I doubt highly this a way to get me to promote. My DM has stated in no uncertain that I am not SBUX Management material that I am unable to deal with ambiguity and therefor promotion is denied indefinately. I want to point out that up until SBUX I have been in every kind of management position for retail and even for a investigative research firm. I have always held higher positions with every company I have worked for except for this one.

sbuxhater.........I feel for you. I have been with the BUX for 8 years. I was a manager in the beginning, but demoted myself, and am now a Barista. Do you mind if I ask what "region" you are in? I just cannot believe this would happen to you. Basically this is the company's way of PUSHING you into being a shift supervisor, so you can sweat and labor even more!!! My most recent story is they want me to "re-promote" and of course I would start as a shift sup... but I would not make ANY MORE MONEY because where I am at, shifts start at a certain wage, and I am already making more than that. So I would not be compensated, is what I was told. I would maybe get like 5 cents an hour more. WHATEVER. This is just another blow to show the true colors of the Bux. And no, I am not going to promote, especially with no raise. It is so ridiculous. OH and I was granted a ton of bean stock and sold ALL of it over 3 years ago, while it was 45 bucks a share. I am so glad I did that!!! SO anyhow... what state/region are you in?

Well it is that time again. Time for my review, I know what I will score the same crap I scored last time. My manager and I get along very well and I work my **** off for him. He has no problem acknowledging this fact. Now it comes time to discuss this **** nickel and dime little itsy bitsy raise. I am told by my manager that I am no longer elidgable for a raise. My shocked face tells the tale. He starts telling me that I have capped off that I am the highest paid barista in the region and that I can no longer recieve a raise that it is a "Starbucks" policy....
I don't trust myself to speak I simply nod and say I need to think this over and no I will not sign anything at this time. I get up and leave and just in time too. As soon as I am in my vehicle with the doors safely locked the green apron thrown in the back seat the "colorful adjectives" that fly out of my mouth would have shocked a prison gaurd.
I knew there were cap off's I am not in the least surprised that a corporation such as the "Bucks" would cut some hard working loyal peon off at the knees. I was just unaware that I was close to that particular figure. I called the Starbucks Partner Contact Center and spoke with a really nice rep who told me that yes there is a cap off and that he was unaware of what the amount would be for me as it varies from region to region. He then directed me to contact the local Starbucks Partner Resource Rep and gave me his number..... Before I hung up with the first guy I did ask why anyone would continue to work for a company that would no longer monetarily compensate them for the hard work and effort they put in on a daily basis and if this cap off included the cost of living increases that the federal govt sometimes dishes out. The answers were no this cap off does not include cost of living increases (so yes we can get that if it ever happens) and that Starbucks in its infinite love for its partners (slaves) has a system in place that gives the partner a "lump sum bonus" in lieu of an actual raise for every favorable review after the cap off. Ahuh ... umm sure ok. How much is said bonus? Again we don't know the answer to this question please contact your local rep for this info.
Ok so I contact the local rep.... and leave a message on this persons office voicemail requesting this information. I am awaiting a return call. (insert eye roll here) Now I am sure that I am not the highest paid person in my district let alone my entire region in my position I have worked for the Bux a little too long and know too many other ppl in my area. So I have to wonder just what in the hell game is going on. My other phone call concerning the Bux today was to the Fidelity company that holds our stock option (joke options?) as I had recieved a package from them a week ago stating that for my years of loyal service I am elidgible to recieve a gift from the Siren (wooo hooo go me) in the form of a discount for bean stock. Ummm ok so I look further just out of curiousity to see just what price I am being quoted for said stock... The price of said stock offer was $24.89 a share. I about peed myself laughing. You have got to be kidding me. I checked the date on the letter from Sbux about the stock and looked it up the day that offer was made the Starbucks stock was worth around $15 and some odd change. Today the stock is worth about $11 lucky me they offered me such a discount. It had to be a typo so I called and was told that the offer was legit that the price quoted coincided with what the stock was worth when I started working for the green slave master with the appropiate discount applied to that rate. I started laughing and couldn't stop. It took me a minute to breathe. When I got back to the phone oddly enough there was no one on the line. Go figure.
