Honestly? That frantic pace is what kills it for me. It trained me to be stressed out 24/7 - and that's unreasonable.

Can't argue with crazy, though.

Opening! The opening shift is my work-BFF so we have tons of laughs while we set up. It's what I was hired to do so I know most of those customers and their drinks. And I love getting the hell out of there no later than 1. I hate working in the afternoons. My shifts aren't any longer, but they drag on. The frantic pace of the morning rush really helps time fly by.

My favorite is opening, especially when it's a short shift. Lately I've been getting 5:30am to 9am, and it's not so bad. I can just go home, go back to bed, wake up at noon and pretend nothing ever happened.

I love opening. Not getting up that early (obviously) but I love the overall vibe during that time & getting off work around 1pm. That's awesome. Plus we ALWAYS have a rush from about 7:30 - 10:30 so it makes the time fly.

Pre-closes and closes. At my location, the people I like working with the most tend to work those shifts, so it's just a more enjoyable experience. It also tends to get really slow past about half six. ...Not to mention markouts.

I like working mornings more than nights. My availability is strictly opening now, whereas when I started with the company it was way more open availability. I found that what I hated most was preclosing, working at like 11... I can't sleep in no matter what because I have a young son, so he doesn't let me sleep in, and I'd spend my whole day dreading work until I had to go in. And then I wouldn't even get home till like 8 at night? Yeah, no thank you. I would rather get a lot of my work day done with while most of the sane world is asleep and then get home and have my day ahead of me. The only downside is sometimes I can't fall asleep because of awful work anxiety and so then I end up dead tired after I get off work. Luckily my son still naps so I end up just napping with him... today I slept for 3.5 hours, lol!

i hate working at like 3, which i do today because i dread it too :/ i can't really do much because i'm hindered by work starting smack dab in the middle of my day. mornings are okay, they are usually super busy so we just get sh!t done and then peace out. evenings are pretty chill starting at like 6 pm and then we can just preclose and have everything done. usually the night shifts are awesome too, we pre-close pretty early and can get out by like 11:15 (close is at 11). I'm also better friends with the night crew- they're my age, whereas the morning crew is usually moms.

Every shift has it's pro's and cons for me.

I prefer the vibe of opens and workload, and having the rest of my day to myself afterwards. At my store, the morning rush is practically non existent so I am guaranteed ample time to do the deposit and ordering. However, the buses aren't running at 4am where I live, and I am too far to walk. So I have to take an expensive cab to get to work, and those add up.

Mid shifts are good because I don't have to prepare the deposit OR deal with the headache of closing down the store. However, I find I wind up working as a barista, because the other shifts at my store have HUGE egos, and I am the newest ss so they feel they have seniority and the right to override my authority, even if it is ME scheduled to be cash controller. It's hard to be constantly checking my ego. Talking to my SM doesn't seem to help either. Her advice is to "just ignore them". Deep down, I don't think she gets what's going on. It's frustrating. However, I know that if I were to full on confront my fellow ss's, they'd claim that they were only trying to help and that it's ME who is in the wrong for trying to coach them on their controlling behaviour. I just don't want to deal with that fallout.

Closes for me usually consist of stuffing my face and cleaning the store. It's a pretty laid back shift. I always come home with a bag full of markouts, which really helps out my grocery situation at home. I legitimately live off of markouts. Sounds like a good time, but I hate it! There is ALWAYS this same mob of people who come in around 9:30 and we have to strong arm out the door when it's closing time. I also hate the fact that most of my closing baristas are incompetent, and a few are unsympathetic to me catching my bus (they are walkers or have their own cars). It only runs every 45 minutes at that time of night. The store closes at 10. We are supposed to be out by 10:30. My bus also leaves at 10:30, so I am always pushing to get out at 10:20 at the latest. Those two or three baristas who either don't care/are so tight with money that they want the extra 10 minutes of pay deliberately slow things down and drag their feet. EVEN IF I DO HALF THEIR WORK THEY STILL FIND SOME WAY TO KILL TIME AND MAKE ME MISS MY BUS. I get home at 11:30 as it is when I CATCH my bus. Getting home past midnight when I technically am done at 10:30 is ridiculous!

So yeah....I hate everything :-p

Back when I was in high school (about 3 years ago). I HAD to have 8 hours to function, now, with all the jobs I've had since, my body now is more content with 6. I will not, however, turn down extra sleep.

My favorite shifts are 7am-1pm. I also like opening, but being AT the store, ready to clock in at 4:15 am really sucks. I'm one of those unlucky people that need 8+ hours of sleep to function. I mainly prefer these shifts because I like having the rest of the day to do as I please.

I find if I go into work for a later shift I just dread it all day :/
It's nice to just go in and get things over with. (Not so great for having a social life though).

However, my SM is a tool and doesn't take note of such mediocre things as availabilities or requests, so 80% closes for me it is...
