So, I have previous experience as a Shift at a different job, I am leader in the church I go to. Silly me. I let my bosses know.
But my question is this. They let me run the floor for about 2 hours today. Good and bad about being a shift? I wanna hear you guys out. I don't wanna get stuck at starbucks, that is not in my life plan.

Probably moar, too. I grow weary. Also I'm not a shift. heehehe.
I was promoted to shift in February. It's not glamorous, but if you're serious about the work, it's much nicer than being a barista. I feel like my decisions and actions have more of an impact in the store.

@OrangeBlossom does it really look good on a resume? I graduated college last year and hope to find a new job related to my career path. I never considered it to be something that could look good on a resume beyond leadership experience. Interesting thought..
It sure as **** looks better than what I have on my resume. It basically says, without any other marketable skills, 'minion' and 'henchman.'
Recently, I became a shift supervisor at a new store. Talk about hell. I'm begining to hate the company more and more everyday. I was never trained. And by never, I literally mean never. Casuality of cutting hours at an understaffed location you could say.
I sat in the back and read the training materials one day. The rest of my week of "training" I would clock in as training and then work a normal shift supervisor role.
Now, I used to be a great barista. I know what's expected of me. I was so excited to move up. I started at 8.35/hr and needed the extra income and responsiblity, so I thought. Now that I've moved up. Not been certified, yet still am operating as a shift.
Going to a new store, there is literally no time to train or go over basic procedures like an inventory count. It's great. So, if you want to be rushed through training, or not trained at all, become responsible for everything that goes wrong, and be told to cut everyone's hours everyday that results in you not getting anything done. Go for it!!!
Good- you have a stronger voice, looks good on a resume.
Bad- no breaks, including lunches. Being held accountable for everything but not being able to do anything about lazy baristas who like to show up late. Less flexible schedule.

The main immediate perk of being a shift supervisor is the wage increase.
The disadvantage of being a shift supervisor is responsibility, being one of the few keyholders (SM calls out, you have to cover), and Just Say Yes.
Sh.t rolls down hill and you're at the bottom looking up... with your mouth open. EVERYTHING bad is your fault. EVERYTHING good is because of your SM.
