when the bank next door got robbed during my first night closing! fun!
Posted 4 years ago # -
I only had one. I was closing with just one other person (the store is tiny) and we got a phone call. She went in the back to pick it up and came out front looking kind of freaked out.
Some guy called asking for someone who either hadn't worked there for a long-**** time or never had, and when she told him that, he started screaming at her, saying he was going to come to the store and find us.We called security, who came and hung out around the store until we left.

when we got robbed
Posted 4 years ago # -
We had some guy come in recently who was telling the shift at the time that the mexican mafia was on the hunt for him and that he needed to hang out here at Starbucks cause they wouldn't think of looking for him here. He also said how they wanted him dead and if they did find him here that nothing will stop them from doing so. He said he will be coming back frequently. He was acting completely serious too.

coffee bandit - oh, do tell. I've always been curious about the morons who would rob a Starbucks for the few grand, at most, they could get out of it.
Posted 4 years ago # -
I haven't had anything dramatic like being rob!! That sucks!
This guy came in and order a tea, and we asked him how is days was going.
He said "I just lost my daughter."
barista and I: "do you mean like you lost a custody battle?" (because who goes to sbux right after someones death?)
guy: "no she just died at the hostpital"
he had tears in his eyes, and he was rather rattled.
then he started telling us how his daughter's mom was going to blame him because this happened before, and the cops already investigated him once. wtf?
then he turned around and walked out.Posted 4 years ago # -

@coffee mart wench - sorry about the 5 month late reply. i havent been on this site since then. but my store got robbed by 3 _ _ _ _ _ guys.(fill in the black, i mean blank). i was closing with a shift. 5 minutes before we were about to lock the doors the three come in pretending to get drinks. i was on the bar getting ready to make their drinks. then all of a sudden two of them walk behind the counter and threaten my shift to open the safe. the guys didnt have guns or anything, but they did have knives. i was in shock. so i stood by the bar while my shift opened the safe. they took the money and left. we called the cops and all that good stuff.

Wow, this an interesting thread! :)
Only crazy thing that has happened at my store was two guys got into a screaming match about who was next in line...hehe, we have such prissy people at my store.
Your guy's stores seem exciting!! :D

Hot damn!
Hmmm...there was a stand-off in front of my store between an armed man and police. And our compassionate SM wouldn't let us close our store until. He was absolutely certain that we WEREN'T getting business.
Finding a bag of crack rocks on the toilet seat whilst closing on a rough Saturday night...
Our ASM watching hardcore gay porn on his laptop when he's supposed to be on the Portal...
Watching my SM literally shove someone off the BAR!
****-smeared walls and ceiling in the men's room; exactly how this happened, we may never know...
Someone actually spent the time and effort to move the toilet off the foundation. Just removed the caulking and moved the actual commode.
Geez, the **** that goes down in coffee shops.Posted 3 years ago # -
Me at my store was when there was a rush a homeless man asked me to us the phone and wanted to call 911 because he was haveing a cezur, I looked at my manger and I just ave him the phone, the next minute he was on the floor. Lol thank god we had a doctor in line.

someone crapped all over the men's washroom. Not as intense as darkroast's to have it smeared on the walls, but still... ><"
Another would be graffiti in the washrooms. No big deal to me but my shift that night went crazy and actually went in and hardcore scrubbed it off.

We currently have an employee who is baked almost every shift, actually it is every shift.
People are just starting to figure it out, she is still here because no one has proved it yet.
She is a highly functioning addict so people really don't notice.
Not calling partner resources because I have no proof.
But my manager is starting to suspect and he is watching.
Will update if something more happens.
This same person has threatened to cut me if I tell anyone, but again, no proof. And I don't take her threat seriously, and I could handle myself fine. She is a girl, I am a guy and rather strong and have a LOT of self defense training, I am not worried.
But it just shows you how crazy and ridiculous the situation is.

Just_Say_No, do you mean 'baked' as in under the influence of marijuana? Or is that US slang for high on whatever else?
Haha, in the Canadian way, I'd say about a quarter of the employees are baked at one given time at my store.

Yeah it's MJ.

There are a couple regulars at my store that are meth-heads. CRAZY ones. With the meth mouth and everything. One gets the SAME drink every time, but it takes her fifteen minutes to remember it. "I wanna, I wanna... the dark thing. It's sweet. Sort of. That THING - I just NEED IT - WHAT IS IT AGAIN?"
Last night we had a scantly-clad hooker come into the store with one of her clients. She was wearing an "outfit" that I'm pretty sure was her teddy bear-cut lingerie she just forgot to cover up after getting out of the car. The two were discussing what was coming next in their date. I shudder at the thought...

@J_S_N: that girl sounds like more a of a meth-head than a pothead! Usually potheads just chill and clean the **** out of things. Meth-heads and other scourge of the night are certainly some of the SCARIER breed of disgustomer--sick!

I can't believe you'd report a highly functioning coworker who you suspect is "baked" every shift. According to you, this person is highly functioning. So what's the problem? You work in a coffee shop, it's not brain surgery, and marijuana should be legal, anyway. Probably more than just this girl come in "baked" every shift, and you don't even know it, cause you want to tell!!!!
Also, she probably threatened to cut you as a joke. I know I would.
Posted 3 years ago # -
Yeah, unless she is doing something wrong (Which I suspect she is not, since you can't prove it) then what's the issue? Either she is actually a nutjob and giving you a bad impression of people who smoke weed, or you are one of those people who think it's as bad as meth...which you might be, having already referred to her as an 'addict'. Poor girl, it's Starbucks. How can you not want to be high all the time, listening to that **** music.

@DarkRoast: I suspect she does more than just marijuana if she is resorting to threats.
To others: What is wrong with you? Why in the world would you get the idea that it is okay to come under the influence of drugs when you are working? It's the same as coming into worked buzzed out on alcohol, work is not the place for that garbage.
Do I give a damn if she smokes weed? NO. But don't do it at work, period. Does anyone care if I get blasted drunk at home? No, as long as I do not come to work drunk.
Seriously, what is wrong with you?
Did I report her? Actually... I DID NOT.
But thanks for playing.
I think I know why some people have a bad impression of Starbucks employees now...
Let's all do drugs while we work!!!
And I can tell you that if she was joking about the threat, she did a very good job of hiding the joke part.
Now whether I think she would actually do it? I don't know what she is capable of... I am not scared, but I do think she might benefit from cutting back a bit...
Did I mention this chick has had several DUI's and has never had a drivers license? Think that one through.
You are so sensitive about marijuana use that you go off on my half prepared because you think I am putting down your habit, jesus people.
Posted 3 years ago # -
oppositeday: Where in my post did I say I reported her? I didn't...
Haha, wow. Don't be so sensitive, did I ever say marijuana should be illegal?
I have smoked marijuana, but I would never dream of coming to work under the influence of anything because I have common sense and respect for others.
Seriously, think about what you are typing! I am not putting down your habit. Unless of course, your habit involves you getting drunk/high and coming to work or working with children while in such a state of mind. Then I might be a bit bothered.

Well, I apologize but from what you said you claimed to not be able to prove that she was - suggesting that she's not doing anything wrong, job performance wise. That's not to say she's a good employee, I'm sure you wouldn't be venting if she was.
But for Pete's sake, we aren't saving lives. We're making coffee. And if it doesn't affect your performance, who cares? My store seems to operate pretty well, hell, I think it's better, people are definately calmer!
Posted 3 years ago # -
I'd like to also add that not once have I come to work under the influence of anything, mainly because it goes by so slowly anyways. But numerous partners I work with, including an ASM have, and the ONLY way that I know is because they have told me or I have witnessed it. It has absolutely nothing to do with their work and I haven't seen it affect anything negatively.
Posted 3 years ago # -
I should have also added that she was a really flaky employee and really unstable in my original post.
But honestly, just because you can't prove something doesn't mean you don't know it is happening...
It does affect her performance.
And sure, she's calmer, but she is still going to work under the influence of an intoxicant, is this the kind of person to work with? It seems rather irresponsible to me...
Think of it this way, if she was a highly functioning alcoholic (their are plenty of highly functioning addicts in the world) who came to work buzzed all the time, would people not want her gone? It's the same issue.
If you disagree that's up to you, but I just don't see how it is appropriate behavior to be coming to work under the influence of drugs....
Posted 3 years ago # -
Well by all means, she doesn't sound like someone who should be there. If she is affecting her fellow employees and the workplace negatively, then I completely understand why you don't like what she's doing. I wouldn't either, but anyone who does at my work, does it and you honestly cannot even tell. If you could tell? Then it would be a problem.
I think it would be a problem were this a serious job, but it's really no better than working than McDonalds in a lot of ways. And I disagree that coming to work while drunk is the same thing. If you have a couple drinks and come to work, you are not necessarily drunk, maybe a little tipsy. Don't know why you would want to do that, but why does it matter? We aren't driving or operating heavy machinery. If you smoke a little weed, come to work all chill and in a good mood, I really don't think it can be compared to being drunk.
If we're speaking of it in terms of respect for the workplace itself? While I do love my fellow employees, SM and some of the customers, I hate Starbucks and have very little respect for the company.

HAHAHHAA. Seriously, boo hoo. Leave "my habit" alone. ;)
Posted 3 years ago # -
Again, I don't care what your habits are, just have the common decency not to come into work under the influence of anything.
It's really that simple, it's just common courtesy, you may think you function just as well but you don't, that's why it's called "under the influence".
Really all there is to it.
