My manager is stepping down at the end of this month! Our DM gave her the choice of stepping down, leaving with dignity or being fired. As awesome as this is they are just going to move her to another store and mess up our shift team again. We are getting another shift that just stepped down to shift position from a manager under really similar circumstances. If there is a problem with a partner they just shuffle them around continuously. And they are planning on hiring from outside of the company for the open management position. Which sounds like a really stupid idea. Not only are they going to have to learn their end of the job they are going to have to learn drinks and the POS system. Nothing like having to train your boss!

Hey I know what you mean. My store manager at my old store trained for a month and then came to become manager. Besides the fact that she had no idea what she was doing, she would never believe us when we were trying to correct her. She always thought she was right and probably thought she was too good for us -__- But I ended up transferring out of there months ago because she was just way too much to work with...Hopefully your experience will not be as bad as mine...

it looks like it is going to royally suck. our dm was let go a couple weeks ago and supposedly we have a new dm but we have yet to meet them or get any of their contact information. they are also transfering out our best shift. it looks like its going to suck big time.

And their philosophy is that shuffling these mgrs around will make them "stronger" and more knowledgable. Bull! All it does is upset the team of partners at the store and kills the morale. Most of the time they're not even trained that well, as mentioned above, and the whole store suffers.

At one of the stores where I've worked, the manager was hired from outside the company and hated being on bar because "I can't make these drinks!"

The reason they hire from outside is so they can pay someone less money than they would if they hired from with in. I was an Asm and with thecompany for 9yrs and quite often I would get Mgrs that were external that made less than me even. They were all no it alls and extremely hard to work with. I wish that starbucks had not been that way. As an Asm I was switched around to 7 stores and each time they said it would be a growth experience and that I was first in line for Mgmt position, and then they would bring in an external for mgr and slap me in the face with it.

All around the world it's the same song! They pulled that same stunt with me: SS for 3 yrs, I was always "next in line" for that elusive promotion to ASM. Always a bridesmaid, but never a bride, you know!
I think Sbux might find it in their best interest not to make false promises--or at least stop trying to cover the BS by moving people around for "growth" and hiring outside. THIS is why this company sucks now and their drink have reached the same level of suckatude: hiring **** people will result in a **** company.Posted 3 years ago # -
Retail jobs always give the bogus promise of mobility but it never happens.

this dumb **** that we got a few months ago gave me 5 hours next week! 5 freakin hours?! what the hell am i supposed to do with a paycheck for 5 hours? i have 2 kids (both in diapers, one on formula) and this **** is giving me 5 hours one week and 10 the next. she tries to say she is catering to the people who were there when she came to the store. ****...with the exception of coming back from 3 month maternity, i've been at that store longer than all but 2 people! longer than all of your shifts, and with the company and store longer than YOU! another one hired outside...doesn't know how to make a vanilla creme...vanilla and f cream you idiot!!!

on the topic of managers, does anyone here know of the new management evaluation? i know vaguely what it is going to be like. there are 7 main things a manager is going to be evaluated on and i believe if they have a negative score on 3 or more of those things they will have a 6 month period in which to remedy the negative score or loss their job. They are things like; turnover rate, labor management, & comping over last year sales ect... i can't remember the others.

Idk, but it's about time they started holding SM's directly accountable for their actions. I mean, if the turnover rate alone were evaluated and dealt with, I'm sure the whole Sbux "experience" would improve.

It would be interesting what they will be judged on. Things like turnover, comp over last year, certain labor stats, % to budget, etc are many times something you can't control in this economy unless the SMs are given the opportunity to help set the rates to begin with. It's kind of like holding someone accountable for customer voice, rent % phone bill etc.
