GotDecaf, I had a similar situation today. I had a customer order a tall latte today. Given the heat lately, I'm asking most customers who order hot drinks if they wanted that hot or iced, and about 50% of the time, you got it, they wanted it iced. So I say to this guy "hot or iced?" and he replies with "tall latte". So this time I say "right, would you like that hot or ice-" and I'm cut off by him saying, leaning closer to me in case I didn't hear correctly, and a little slower this time in case I missed his incredibly simple order, "taaaallll laaatteee". So THIS time I grab a tall hot cup, and just say "and you wanted that hot" as I'm marking the L on his cup. He says "Yeah, it's a latte, it's a hot drink." I tell him about how, interestingly enough, we also make iced lattes and, given the heat, I wanted to make sure he truly wanted it hot. He looks at me, clearly defeated as he didn't know this. He tells me that yes, he wanted it hot, then goes on to say "180 degrees, nonfat milk" as if adding a few stupid modifiers bested me. I truly hope my bar partner heard the exchange and decaffed him (though I'm not sure whether anyone else at my store decafs people).
After he paid for his hot drink he looked at me very defeated and said "I didn't know there were iced lattes...." I felt like I won a person battle against this customer today.
