Oh, Lord, oh, Lord, oh happy day! I gave my two weeks' notice yesterday and am leaving Starf*cks forever! After only three months with this dreadful job and a bad economy, I managed to land myself a PAID (previously unpaid) Apprenticeship with a local Digital Printing company and I am so excited I can hardly stand it. My store manager looked at me as though I was a piece of excrement he found on the bottom of his shoe... well, he's worked at Starcraps for eight years and loves it, so there you are. I also think he was plenty p.o.'d when he overheard my co-workers congratulating me and saying, "You are so lucky! You're getting a real job away from this horrible place!". I am fortunate. Most of them are young college students with no experience whereas I have lots of experience in Graphic Design. Hooray! I'm leaving!! :-)
I'm leaving! Hooray! I got a REAL job!!

Congrats!!!! I can't wait until I get to do the same. And if you ever miss it (which i seriously doubt will happen, but who knows) you can just come back here and see all the misery you aren't going through anymore. Have fun at your new job!

Thanks! I just talked to my new boss and he said he wished I was with him today because he could really use my vinyl-applying skills (Graphic Designer at a sign shop) for a job he's doing. Imagine that! Someone wants MY skills! I feel like crying with happiness. I am totally NOT going to miss Starbucks!
This guy is ready to train me. Unlike Starbucks where you're lucky if someone can spare five minutes training you to make a stupid latte...

Be persistent. It also helps if you get lucky and find an employer who really, really needs your particular skills at that very moment--I think it was one factor in getting my boss to pay me for what was originally supposed to be an unpaid apprenticeship. It doesn't hurt that my new boss is really a nice guy, too! I mean, he knows I don't drive (never learned to drive and I'm now 42!) so he picks me up from the local train station! EVERY day! Damn!
Wow, I am lucky and blessed. And very, very, very happy. I'll take all of the loyalty and hard work I wanted to give to Starbucks and give it all to this guy instead.

Oh, dear.... oh, jeez... here I am, sadder than sad... the new job didn't work out and I have to go back to Starbucks...
luckily, my SM at Starbucks wanted me to come back, so, at least I don't feel like a complete and utter loser... the guy at the printing company is a mental case and so is his harpy of a wife. Jerk-off made me give my two weeks' notice to Starbucks and then canned me after three days. Loser!
So now I must put on a happy face and go back... sigh. Well, it beats being unemployed, I guess.
