The best way to get a job at Starbucks is at a job fair, and tell them you can do anything and work anytime......But these days I hear it truly bites working for them...Better off cleaning houses or something...They don't pay enough for what you have to do.

True True I really loved my job for 9 of the 10 yrs. Soooo glad to be free now Sad to get up each morning dreading going to work and counting the hrs. til you're off. My termination caused me financial discomfort for a short time and the unfairnes mad me angry but physically the relief was the best thing that could have happened(and winning an unemployment claim against them for termination for no apparent reason). Maybe things will improve eventually but for now I'd advise running as far as you can in the opposite direction. Ethics, integrity and morality in decisions doesn,t seem to be there right now. Wait for them to actually get their act together again and then maybe. For me I,m loving the actual respect and dignity I get at my new job.

I applied, and yes. This is my dream job for right now.

It was fun in the beginning, but after a few months things changed. My first manager was pretty awesome, as was my ASM. But they are both gone now and my new SM is the absolute worst.
I think my attitude towards the job is half co-workers/ half the actual job.Needless to say, Im on the job hunt as we speak.

I hadn't worked for about four years (I was on Social Security Disability because I was one sick woman), so I was very happy to get my job at Starbucks. Apparently, I work at one of the busiest stores in Georgia. I've been reading all these terrible posts (funny, but terrible) about wretched SM's and Shifts but I think I really lucked out. My SM is a very cool guy. Of course, he does get really impatient with me because I'm kind of slow about some things. It doesn't help that I have depression and A.D.D.
It's fun when we're busy and everyone is in that zone where we function so well it's like we can read each other's minds. Most of the people I work with are really funny and cool. They have my back when it comes to crunch time. We work our **** off at our store and it can be frustrating... why the hell do we only have TWO marking pens every shift? Why the hell won't the people who are supposed to be Expediting expedite?!
I think the only thing that bothers me about the job is that I'm much older than nearly all of my "partners" (Ugh, I despise that phony term) and I get depressed thinking that this is the job I'm stuck with for now. It would be more fun if we were making more money. I mean, they want us to get down on our hands and knees and scrub the damn floors for... $7.50/hour!
This is the first job I've worked at though where the managers/shifts also got down on their knees and cleaned the floors and did other crappy, disgusting jobs that normally the peons get stuck with. It's refreshing to see that.
I hope the economy gets better soon, though. I get so nervous on the Espresso Bar!

I filled in an application form and an hour after handing it in I was asked for an interview. I then got offered the barista role at two different shops, and my mistake, chose to work at the crappy one. In the beginning I LOVED it, I honestly thought sbux was the dogs bollocks, but then we got the new manager...

I got a job at an airport starbucks (licensed), only to find out I was moving and couldn't take it. The rules were really strict, it was busy as hell, and a long commute, so I'm glad I didn't take it. Then I got hired at a corporate cafe store and LOVED it. Then I trasferred to the seattle area and hated it. I transferred again to a store closer to home. It's a lot better, but it's a drive through and drive throughs SUCK. Now I'm in training for another job and will be leaving soon. YAY!

Check out the stores you are thinking asbout applying at. Then when you find the one you like apply. I actually know a couple people who applied part time for hours they wanted to work because they ned benefits for their families. They have coverage, work early, pick kids up at school and attend school functions for their kids as well as being able to help husbands with home based buisnesses. They goto work, do their job, steer clear of the drama(of which there is plenty) and go home. No connection with the partners and they do as they're told without complaining. They tell me it's just a job for insurance and they don't need to make friends. Good sound advice.

@Lamericana: hearty congratulations to you for finding another job! Goodbye coffee plantation!
@grandma: Girl, do I FEEL ya! The first years were GREAT: the partners then were from the old school, then ecclectic types from all walks of life. Business was booming and hours aplenty. Also, Sbux wasn't as gung-**** about changing policies every 2 weeks! How the times have changed! Partners now barely care, so much like the company in general as we've come to find out. The old schoolers still there are demoralized, desolate. That fast-food mentality has denigrated what a coffee shop was really supposed to be about-coffee, people, and music.
Although it was my termination and the circumstances surround it were gut-wrenching and depressing, I can't tell you how free I feel now.Posted 3 years ago # -
i got it by going to a starbucks job fair, and it actually was what i expected i was already working at one cafe that was so unprofessional, and unorganized and starbucks was just the opposite, at least my store, i recently transfered because i relocated and im not crazy about my new store.

i got hired by some stoner fool after i filled out an application....he asked me some questions, hired me, and we celebrated 2 weeks later reenacting Cheech & Chong.
To Perfectionist: your life must suck balls to say that the Bucks is your dream job for now.....Que la ****!

I applied during the 'Christmas season', so around late Nov/early Dec of 08.
I got a call back and I was super excited. :D
I probably should've seen how crappy it was and made more of an effort to find a better job just for the future, but in the beginning I was still happy with it so I never bothered.
I went 2 weeks in the beginning without being scheduled for training after my interview, I thought it was because since they were busy they just never had a chance to call me back.
So I finally called them back and asked to be scheduled for training. Now it was about mid dec and it was really busy every night I came in to train.
I trained for about 2 weeks (only reaching drive thru in the manuals, i never went on to actual drive thru) and then worked the rest of my winter break and once again during school in january. and even then the schedule was irregular, meaning i went to work 3 days a week, 0 the next week, 1 four hour shift the next week, it was odd.
Then in April-ish I asked to transfer to another store that was just opening and closer to my school. I talked to the manager of the store, got everything in order and waited for a phone call.
I never got a call and was taken off the schedule at my store for about a month until I walked in and saw the manager and asked him and it was THEN, that he told me that he hired too many people and didn't have space for me.
I then went back to my store, told them and they said they'd have me scheduled asap.
THAT never happened and I worked for 2 weeks and was randomly taken off the schedule again. All summer I didn't work July, and then I FINALLY was put on the schedule regularly for August and here I am now. -_-All in all.
I really wish I quit around April when I was calling around to different starbucks explaining my situation and what I should do and all that.Posted 3 years ago #
