i'm the store coffee master of my store and as you all know the coffee masters job is to enforce all standards are being met. Now in my store it seems a whole 4 out of 11 people are making drinks to standard (free pouring caps, pouring double shots, correct syrups measurements etc.) So i was just wondering if there are any other coffee masters who have the same problem with no one taking them seriously and not careing about all the hard work your putting in.
may i suggest that perhaps you are putting too much effort into a job that pays under $10 an hour? the only reason i pursued coffee master is for a black apron. do you really want to make your store think you are a drink nazi just because you are rockin the black apron now?
my advice to you: as long as these people aren't making something YOU personally have to consume, let it slide.
Attitudes like that have ruined starbucks. The standards are there for a reason. It is something small, I let it slide, but making drinks completely wrong is unacceptable. Customers order drinks because they think it will be what they order, not whatever the barsita felt like making!
The coffee at Starbucks lately tastes like ****. I'm sorry but it used to be good I seriously thnk they are buying lower grade coffee. It tastes horrible, like burning hot dirty sink water, I'm not just saying that to be mean, I'm telling the truth
starbucks is meant to be ruined. it's flawed from the beginning. i suspect you love starbucks, and that's why you are concerned if a realistic attitude is ruining your beloved company.
and of course the coffee doesn't taste good! it could be because you're drinking a mystery blend of whatever the barista felt like grinding that morning mixed with 2 batches of leftover expired coffee that never got dumped out of the urns!
i believe the OP was just asking about the quality of beverages in your specific store, not an invitation to bash him for having a black apron.
for the most part drinks at my store are made to recipe, it annoys the crap out of me when a barista makes a drink wrong. I might not like my job, but i take pride in what i do, dammit.
Sometimes I can't believe the people at my store went through training. Examples:
-Re-steaming milk 50 times
-Always coming up 1/2" short on frappuccinos
-Steaming extremly airy foam, or not aerating the milk at all.
-Putting half-brew amounts of coffee in the filter, then making a full brew

Look, I don't know about you, but I like to take pride in my work. It might not be perfect or something you particularly agree with, but you're being paid to do it. Sbux may be have problems with their flip-flopping policies that often times makes no sense whatsoever, however, if you find it that difficult to comply--just go somewhere else and give your hours to someone who WANTS to work.
I just think that it's pretty damn hypocrtical to complain about the suits not doing their jobs, and then not even try to your job, which is pretty damn easy. Making drinks wrong is just asking for customers and partners to get annoyed. I agree that starbucks is crappy; their brewed is nasty, their machines are so automatic the espresso is nasty, and everything else is chocked full of sugar. But if you take the time to do a good job, (i.e. following standards) you can actually make a decent drink. Everything that perf listed is a standard and makes the drink slightly better when followed.
The bottom line is: you can't complain about starbucks being crappy if you're the one making it that way!

I am a coffee master, I make excellent beverages, but I also take my job for what it's worth.

I agree with SCSHC, but a coffee master does have more training, and even without the black apron if you see someone messing up drinks, you should correct them. You can do it nicely, unless they are doing it on purpose, in which case they're just asking for it. I'm a drink standards nazi, I check the manual once a week, and I'm not afraid to tell someone they're doing something wrong. I also hate starbucks, but I refuse to sink the the suit's level. I find a good way to do it is ask if the way they're doing it is the "old way" since it's usually partners that have been with the company a long time. Then I tell them that I think they changed it, and check the manual for them, because "I'm not sure but I want to check for myself". That is a nice way to point out their mistake without being a jerk, and making sure that I am actually correcting a mistake and not just being nit-picky. Because if you're not trying at your job, you should be fired and let the thousands of others who are unemployed have it, because they would appreciate it!
Our manager is a black apron (of course) and she cuts corners on bar worse than anyone! She resteams milk, doesn't rinse pitchers, lets shots die, you name it, she does it, but then she'll correct someone else for not shaking a no-water, unsweetened iced tea. And on top of that, you can easily get written up for not initialing the duty roster, even if you just forgot, even though nothing on the duty roster ever really gets done, she just wants it initialed in case our DM comes in, because all she knows to do is look over the paper work and yell about how it's all wrong. It's her store, she can run it any way she wants, but pick a way and stick with it! If she wants to f-up drinks, go for it, but don't correct us when we do the same. If she's not gonna care about drink quality, I'm not either, I'm gonna do what's easiest for me just like she does.

The secret is that all of the drinks are disgusting no matter how many pumps of **** you put in, or how hot you make it. Look at the ingredients, look at the sugar, gross! But somehow they've convinced the customers that the drinks can be "perfect."
you know what I say......**** the coffee master, that corporate sellout is the reason why despite this **** economy, I quit the Bucks and moved on to a much better job. Some people (**** like the coffee master aka the Boss) have such unrealistic standards that is set for baristas and it's crappy pay for all that you have to do and remember and all the **** new products that come out every **** month.
There seems to be no actual standards at my store. Anything seems to go but yet I and other people not on the "suck up to the manager" list get in trouble for not doing things to the book. (I only do what I was trained to do) The milk waste is huge and there doesn't seem to be any way of keeping inventory of it.
We have serious lack of cleaning and sanitary practices.
