Want to complain about your day to people who understand the pain you're going through?
I try telling my friends but they're all "No wayyy~" or "Starbucks?! You're kidding me!"
No, I am not.

My day, was freaking terrible. Not only was my manager working with me (for like, 5 hours and he HATES me). I was put on front till for about a half hour, kicked to the bar for 10min, kicked to drive for a hour, and then my manager told me to go on a break. First however, he told me to do a good bus, check the patio. I said ok, I went, did all of it, and then came back in and he asked me to do washrooms.
Okkk~ So I go and do washrooms then go for my break.
At around 5pm he tells me that I can go for my lunch, but in order to go on it I needed to sweep the floor, and that included moving tables to sweep under. I was so busy just focusing on sweeping, that I forgot to take my lunch after finishing.
I go back on the floor and we were just talking when suddenly my manager appears from the back and goes: "You're back already?"
I told him I forgot to take it, and I'll go right away. Instead he stops me and goes: ... you REALLY need to know to take your break... especially on a day like today where I don't have a lot of people working.
Sure, it was kinda busy before. There were little mini rushes that went smoothly and by now it was fine. There were 5 people (including me) on the floor. If I left there would be 4. That's at least one bar person, one cold station, one drive and one front till. And most of the people on were pretty experienced.
And then he told me that he couldn't afford me taking a half hour break, and walked away.
....??? I stood there for like 10min thinking he would come back out and he didn't so my coworkers and I were like, do I go on a break?? Do I not? and if I didn't, there's no **** way he can deny me my lunch break, that's stupid.
A good half hour later he sent someone else on their break, and then he told me that I needed to keep track of when and when not to go on my break and that MAYBE I would get a break later.
Wow really? I MIGHT get a break? After all the **** hard work you made me do?? I was so **** off that I just didn't talk.
Then about an hour later a new shift came to take over and she said that I would get my break. And in the time that my manager denied me my break, there were only about 5 customers in.

Godd I would've given him my two weeks notice if it wasn't for the fact that I can't find any other job! UGH.

My coworkers are incompetent and can't and won't brew coffee when I was planted on till on blackout, their were two of them and bar, and they had like three drinks. I snapped at them (not because they let it expire, but because they actually let it run OUT!) One of them went on about how she feels I don't respect her when I snap, and how they were so busy (they had 3 drinks, I had a huge line of customers, and how it is hard to keep up with everything including brewing coffee and how I hurt her feelings etc.) I told her I didn't mean to snap, but explained why they should brew coffee, all I heard were a bunch of excuses, which basically summed up them not wanting to work hard. They basically told me they didn't care if we ran out of coffee, just plain didn't care.

So what did I hear? You hurt my feelings, I don't care, you shouldn't care either, I was so busy (a bunch of excuses) when they had three drinks. And they try to tell me I shouldn't stay planted... you know, their is a REASON we have the register person stay planted during blackout. Because the store earns labor by transactions for half hour, that means more hours for every employee in the store, but the stupidest one of them, a former shift, doesn't get this at all. In fact, she just doesn't give a ****. I told her I was just frustrated, but I realize later that I never actually apologized. Looking back, I realized it was because I wasn't actually sorry.

You know why? Because the person I was SOOO mean to and "disrespected" and "wasn't considerate toward (yes, I got this speech, that she tries SOOO hard to be considerate to others, and she just wants me to do the same to her, and blah blah blah, and how I call out coffees and stuff when I am planted and their aren't many customers (hello, earning labor gets us ALL more money, you are a former shift, you should know this stuff!) Well, this inconsiderate jerk who "doesn't respect her" though she is so high and mighty and respects me but just wants the same in return, has covered shifts for her on multiple occasions on short notice asking and expecting nothing in return, and has been very nice to her, especially when she hasn't felt good. Well, from now on I don't cover shifts for her anymore, period.

She claimed I had "disrespected her" I hadn't, I had hadn't even really snapped. I had just asked them why neither of them could have brewed the coffee when their were two of them over their with three drinks and me with a line ten deep in customers while they CHATTED WITH EACH OTHER. Freaking stupid and ridiculous. I didn't disrespect her. But after all that garbage from her, and all the excuses and unwillingness to admit any fault, or even consider what I had to say about the coffee, or about how they might actually want to give some consideration to me wanting to actually do my job well, and how I actually care about (but she is considerate right? No, not at all, or she would consider my feelings, and my desire to do my job right, which she doesn't seem to care about).

I disrespect her now, I didn't, but I do now. She says telling her to do her job is disrespectful and seems like I don't think much of her. I did think a lot of her, I don't know, and I don't know if I ever will again. What I met was someone with an incredibly thin skin, who doesn't give a damn about their job or doing it right, claims to act considerate to make themselves feel good, but only does what they would want done to them, and doesn't consider at all what the other person might want, forgetting completely that other people have different needs than her, yes, how very considerate of her.

I am so sick of this crap, so tired of working with idiot coworkers who don't care, don't support you, and just plain don't give a damn in general. You try to meet them halfway in an argument and they won't budge an inch, not to even give you one tenth. They say all kinds of things and convince themselves they are nice and care about you to make themselves feel good, but really it's all about them, and how they want to feel. They do nice things to make themselves feel good, never really considering how you want to feel. Just doing what they would want you to do for them, and when you try to explain this to them, you are a jerk, no matter how diplomatic you try to be. I just lost all respect I had, possibly permanently for a coworker who I thought knew how to do their job.

I hate this company, I hate the idiots I work with and I am so freaking sick of Starbucks.

So today i worked like the whole day, i was there in the morning at lunch and the dinner/ night time rush! :| so... we were supposed to get our order into for all our cups and frap mix.. you know what im talking about! Well we didnt get it at all.. b/c we think someone forgot to order it! umm the SM got sick and she needed a shift to open so she got that covered and got me to cover the shifts shift... however there wasnt going to be a shift on the floor for about 4 hrs.. and no one would come in, and we couldnt get a hold of the closing shift, it was crazy so the opening shift stayed super long, until we could get a hold of the closing shift! I had all the sanitasing and the floors down kept up with her coffee even know i was making a million and one fraps! :P im tired of working with idiots, that dont know how to MARK cups or call them! I know i was having an off day, but i have worked what 6 days in a row sooo far! Starting today i work 12 or 16 days in a row.. and i start school next week! FUN! Im tired that our SM never comes into work, I tired of stupid customers that dont know anything... i agree! im sick of starbucks but im gonna stay! :(

x.yoru, You guy should check with your Partner Resources Manager to see if you get paid for that time. In California, if you work longer than 5.00 hours without a lunch we have to pay you an hour. It happened to a barista this morning. We got super busy, she stayed an hour longer than her scheduled shift, so I paid her for an extra hour for the missed meal. If your state provides that, make sure there is a line on your paycheck that says "break penalty." If not, you need to call compliance ASAP. Hopefully you clocked in and out appropriately too, because if a manager changes a punch in any way there is a record of it. I actually caught another manager not paying meal breaks and her time punch report proved it and she got fired. Not getting breaks is very serious and should be reported.

I actually didn't even clock out for that lunch break.
My shift told me to go, and I did, without punching out. I was too angry to see me not get paid for that half.

Wow I should really tell a couple of my coworkers about missing their meals. Because I know a couple weeks ago we were really busy and the 6 people that were on, only 2 got their meal break and someone told me about it and I was shocked! To work 8 hours and only take a 15 because it was too busy.

I hate this! Such a serious violation of human rights and even more appalling that Starbucks turns a blind eye to the lack of breaks. The Suits' solution? Cutting back on labor over and over again so if you want to take a much needed break, and the only other partner working with you is left to fend for themselves. And we all know that break will NEVER be fully enjoyed, especially if you're a GOOD shift lead. You will end up back on that **** salesfloor!
I am so grateful that someone finally went to an attorney and stuck it to them!

x.yoru: sorry for your bad day. That sucks! My day wasn't that great either. I was the closing shift supervisor in my store. Due to a lack of staffing, I didn't get a lunch today and had to work my entire shift. This is the third time this has happened to me this week. It was really really busy, & the customers are very unforgiving.

Just_Say_No: "I am so sick of this crap, so tired of working with idiot coworkers who don't care, don't support you, and just plain don't give a **** in general" AGREED!! People like this make working here even worse. This statement applies to managers and DM's too.

Just have to complain about a coworker. It was realllyyy busy today for about 3 hours straight and a shift was on the bar for about an hour and a half or so. So after I went on my break I come back and another shift just told me to go and help out on bar if I could.
So I go over and tell her what milk she will need and that I'll help her steam it, and after about 10min she started like freaking out at me and spazzing because she was starting to make drinks wrong.
So I backed off and instead went to brew coffee, stock stuff and all that.
She was rather... angryy that I tried to help, and it was because she didn't think that double barring helped her at all and she would rather fly solo.
So instead of telling me, she just freaked out for a bit, then went completely silent, which kinda freaked me out, so I just walked away.
Then about an hour later another partner tried to help her out with some drinks and she completely lost it.
She was like: You want to do bar? because if you want I'll give it to you.
and the partner was like... sure?
And she just walked away all frustrated and went off doing something else. And then later she complains about how people are trying to help her but she didn't want their help and she got frustrated and said: I mean I can work by myself, JUST FINE. I don't need help, I mean if you want to help, why not just take over bar for me?? I can't double bar!!
.... well if you know that, just let us know! Instead of taking out your frustration on us and everything you should've just told us that you would be more comfortable working by herself.
I mean, she used to be a really cool barista, but ever since she became a shift, she became more arrogant and acts exactly like a know it all.
I mean she's awesome... sometimes. Just lately I've been finding it hard to work with her because she kinda looks down on me.
I mean before when this happened and she was a barista, and we tried to double bar with her, she'd be fine with it and would act all cool and just be like "thanks!!".
But now... -___- argh.

I have a shift who can be really hard to deal with sometimes. She never really says what bothers her for a bit and just snaps at people. If you call her out on it, she finally blows her top and just hashes it all out with you right then and there, you can yell right back and she won't care, that is just how she deals with problems. Aggressive, yelling, fighting, and being generally really well... errm, direct, lol. I get frustrated with her because that is not at all my style, if she wants me to do something different, that's fine, but their is absolutely no need to scream about it, or yell or just generally be mean.

But the thing is, it's just her style as a person, she doesn't even mean it personally. You could yell right back at her and she wouldn't hold a grudge, you would yell back and forth with her for a minute and it would be over, and she would act like it never happened. And as far as she is concerned, it didn't happen. She will have already moved on. I can't say I have ever worked with or known anyone quite like her before, and I am still trying to get used to working with her after over a year. I am not sure I ever will get used to it.

I don't think it's very professional, and it isn't related to direct hatred of Starbucks, she could exist in any job. And I mean, she isn't a bad person, she is even my friend, if you can believe that. She is just really difficult to work with a lot of the time, pretty much all of the time. Sometimes, it drives me absolutely crazy. But I have found that it is easier to deal with when I look at it from her perspective, when I do, I understand her a lot better, and it doesn't bother me as much. Also, if you look at it from their perspective, you understand them and can thus talk to them on their plane, from the way they look at things and then you can truly communicate with them. By directly arguing with her and yelling back and just saying exactly what is on my mind, I felt I had better communication with her than I ever had before. And I realized it worked so well because that is her communication style.

Sorry, just had to vent/muse lol. My workday passed really slowly, and I got into a (verbal) fight with a shift, though like I said, from her perspective, it was more like normal communication. And I really had to get it out there, sometimes this job is just crazy... I just don't know how to deal with it sometimes lol.

starbucks drama. XD Thought it might be interesting.

Basically last month this partner at my store left during his meal break saying his 'car broke' and didn't come back. The shift working that night was amazingly ****. OFF. She was so angry that night (since I worked that night too), and I guess she still kinda has some kind of grudge against him for just leaving like that. He was closing that night too so she was left with 2 people for closing and she was angryyy~~
So he and his girlfriend (who also used to work at our store) came in sunday and she was on her break, getting a drink (actually waiting in line for it and all), and they come in and she goes: Well look who has come for a visit... *death glare*
Then when they came and lined up, she turned around and was like: I want you to know that you're not welcome in our store anymore and that I'm going to call our SM right now to see if I can kick you out.
And all of us working were like: ....
and she came back to grab the handheld phone, told me not to take his order and she disappeared into the back then I went to greet them since I was on front till.
And they were like; seriously...
Of course I still take his order because he was such a funny and nice partner, and I didn't mind if I got in trouble because I didn't take his order. I was going to give him a partner discount but I had a feeling that the shift was watching me so I just left it at that and said I would any other time if I saw them.
It was pretty awkward for a bit though. Because she was a little rude to all of us because she was angry.
But whatever~ I just hope he doesn't come back when the shift is working because apparently she told him that one time when he came through our drive-thru too. o.o

We forgot to put the newspapers out this morning and a customer who had been sitting in the cafe came up to us and asked for the NY Times. She sat and watched my partner put then papers together and grabbed a paper to read in the cafe...didn't buy a thing!

As my SM always says, even if a partner gets fired for stealing, they are still welcome in the store as a customer.

The partner had already quit, so he's done working at the bux period. So I still can't see why she acted that way towards him.
On saturday we saw his truck outside, but he was afraid for coming in so we never got a chance to say hi (and the shift wasn't even working. I was sad. :( )
But after all the other shifts working were talking about it too, saying that what she did was wrong and that the old shift can call regionals (or something) and complain.

Well my day always depends on if my manger is working or not if she's off I'm the most happies person ever and I work harder and I up sell the hell out of whatever I feel like that day. When's she's working she's so stressed out that it puts me in a funk, and I just want to move slow and I don't care. So pretty much 2 days out of the week I'm great and the other days I'm just blah.

im 38 weeks pregnant and 2 centimeters dilated (for those of you who dont know, at 10 cent the baby comes out)

tomorrow is my last day before i go on leave

today we were three times as busy and were understaffed as usual.

one partner fell out in the middle of the chaos and had to leave the floor because he felt light headed..he clocked out shortly after leaving 3 people to handle the work of 6

i worked a 6 hour shift with one 10 minute break after 4 hours on my feet

o ya and i saw the shift pick his nose and eat his buggars in the kitchen

did he wash his hands before coming back out on the floor and making drinks?

Today there was a mini rush of about half an hour, and it was just one girl on bar and she was already dead tired due to her other job and she was on bar.
I come out from the back (I was doing dishes) just to help her out a bit, and this one lady is on the side tapping her watch at me.
I give her this 'uhhh' look and then just continued helping her. And then she said: I'VE BEEN WAITING 10MIN. THIS IS RIDICULOUS.
Me: .... ok?
Her: My god is it SUPPOSED to take the long?
*we just continue working*
Then after we hand her her drinks (through cafe, so obviously we don't put lids on it FOR them) and she looks at us like we're crazy and goes: THOSE ARE TO GO.
....?? I was ready to say: Yeah, that's why they're in a paper cup, OBVIOUSLY. But then my coworker turned around, grabbed 2 lids from drive and put it on for her.
Then she goes: Can I get it double cupped? That's going to be WAY too hot to carry.
She grabs another put, kindly puts it in for her and then gives them back.
Then: CAN I GET A TRAY?!
Like wtf lady, you have two hands, a double cupped drink WITH A SLEEVE, and you're still being snooty?
I tell my coworker that I have the tray and I hand it to her saying: Here you go. All nicely since I didn't want to come off as a b----. And she turns around and goes: this is ridiculous.
God people. Seriously when there's a rush and one barista on bar, expect a wait.

I opened today and three hours after my shift ended my asm called to ask me if it's possible to come back later to work and possibly close! WTF! I said I had plans and I was asked about tomorrow because the store is understaffed and I had to remind my asm that i requested tomorrow off and i can't come in to do a four shift. UGH!

(This is when I just stood there for a second and tried not to laugh)

Guy: Why are your prices different here? No one has EVER told me 5.20 before.
Me: Maybe they know you and know that you don't want both syrups? The way you asked I thought you wanted both. Which would be more.
Guy: Well that has never happened before, I get this drink for my wife all the time.
Me: Well I'm sorry for the confusion, but your *blahblahdrink* is only 4.67
Guy: Fine, here

And then he hands me...a **** drink coupon. The damn thing is free. He was the nicest guy after I gave him his drink, and when I went over and told the girl on bar I almost wet myself I was laughing so hard.

There are three other stores in my city, and the closest town with another store is a 10 hour drive away!! So he meant in my town. I should have just subbed the Vanilla instead but still! Insanity.
