   So today i was working.. and my store manager is pushing via... we are hitting pretty much our 200% of our goal... but this weekend is halloween so it is kinda slow.. she called today to tell the shift she needs to call everyone thats about 25 partners and tell them to come in the buy a 12 pack of VIA... im not spending my money on VIA... it is like 12 and discounts and **** 10.. thats one hr of work for me! :O how can the store manager except someone to buy it.. the one girl was like.. i cant afford to buy it!

   what do you think.. do you think it was alright i didnt buy it just for my store

   Noo I think that's wrong. To call everyone and tell them to go buy via... screw that!
   I never would, which is why I'm not pushing it either. If people want it and are truly interested in it, THEY'LL GET IT.
   If not, then oh well. You can't force your own partners to come in and buy Via just so you go past your goal.

   That is so wrong, but its very common when you put too much pressure on poorly trained managment. They can't think of any real way to hit thier numbers, so they make up unethical (and in my industry, banking, illigal) methods of "padding" thier numbers. It does no one any good. The only thing is will do in the long wrong is elevate managments expectation of how well Via is doing, and make them set even higher, totally unrealiztic goals in the future.
   This is just one more example, of porrly training, un-creative management.

   What I don't understand, if you're hitting your goal by almost 200%, why the push to sell even more? Is there a prize for the store that sells the most or something?

   I'd tell your manager to go **** her/himself. What your manager asks is completely idiotic and inappropriate. If she/he wants to sell more VIA that's her/his problem to solve, not yours. Also, why put money that you earned back into the store just to support this company's childish goals? It's completely redundant and I hope your manager gets a slap from reality and realizes that it is.

   It's like someone asking you to mow their lawn, giving you $20 bucks for it, then taking it back right after because they need to fill up their lawn mower with gas.

   There's something rotten about all of this...how can that be ethical? Inflating sales figures by coercing the employees to buy the product? That certainly sounds like an ethics/securities violation of some sort. Why would so many managers across the board utilize the same or similar fraudulent sales tactics? Maybe they too are being coerced from above. With that being said, what kind of pressure are "they" (the RMs and directors above RM) putting on their subordinates? What I'm alluding to is that something or someone big must be threatening/promising a great deal for the VIA sales pressure to be so intense that SMs and DMs are lying, cheating, and stealing without a moment's hesistation....

   Coercion doesn't have to involve physical force or a physical threat (like a weapon). Coercion can simply be an implied or perceived threat that is used to manipulate a person or to compel a desired behavior or action. When an employee feels as though there is an increased element of job insecurity if he or she does not go along with some kind of pressure from a higher-up, that can legitimately be referred to as coercion. It's actually a very stressful situation in which to find oneself...regardless of the actual variables involved (i.e. Via).

    Allow me to elaborate: I meant that partners are being coerced or threatened into performance to make those impossible VIA sales goals, perhaps in an effort to placate the shareholders.

    cruisyeyes, if you are going to attack someone's position, can you at least explain why you feel thier postion is so "laughable". If you just call someone out, yet you don't state your opinion as to why you feel that way, it just seems like an imature personal attack. God, its like you working for the white house or something. Call people out, thats fine, but back yourself up so we can at least attempt to take you seriouslly.

    so the reason this is happening is that in my city if you get over 200% of your target then you get 500 for the store to do anything with...

    well something else happened... a ss gave the one girl a gift hard with alot of money on it.. for apparently selling alot of via.. what do the rest of us get! NOTHING! how fair is that! im really starting to dislike this company

    No way!! My store won't do that. My store manager buys it like crazy. I'm so sick of pushing the freaking via. It's so annoying always telling customers about it over and over again! but it's wrong, and she can't make you do it. You get it as a markout, use that. lol **** her off. :D

    Starbucks would break every law in the land just to put a positive spin on things and make people think they were good coffee doing good....I remember a party led by a guy many years ago killed loads of Jews.I think he shot himself in a bunker in the 40's...sound familiar?

    My manager doesn't really give a **** to be honest...at least he's not a **** that way....It's not my **** problem nor do I have to push VIA so my DM can get a Bonus....

    I don't know about the States but the prize here for 1 st place in Via sales was VIA Apparel.......clothes so I can wear and promote that **** thing.

    @Dearest Cruisy: you are correct. I am no longer with the Bux. However, I still maintain my friendships with many baristas, SS's, & SM's. And also for the record, I had been with the Bux for quite some time, so I am fully aware of their unscrupulous business tactics; I can empathize with the partners still stuck on the slave ship.
    Take THAT and put it in your front pocket.

    Sounds like something the Bux would do. Time to call the the class actioin people and add that to the lawsuit. Ya think? They are still gathering info. I finally got a call last week but was at work. I've had laryngitis all week but did get ahold of the lady who left the message for me. She said they would be verrrry interested in talking to me since they had gotten a lot of mgrs. from my area with the same complaints that were in my Email. She thought my voice sounded too shaky yet as the interview would probably take a little longer than normal based on the info. they already had from me. Should be talking to them the middle of next week.
