Sorry, but people like that make me want to puke. I understand if in your own life it's Christmas, but as an international company, any store needs to allow for diversity. Starbucks uses winter colors and symbols, not Christian ones, and while the company makes me sick, they are not in the wrong here. Some people need to just get their heads out of their own youknowwheres and realize that there is more than one way of life and that no one path can really be called the correct path.
Sorry if I offend anyone, I really didn't mean to. Just get a little carried away on these issues.
that site more than anything else makes my brain hurt in so many ways, it's almost fitting that it doesn't seem to like me enough to accept my login so i wont end up running my mouth over there, it's like the crazy never ends
What I have never understood about this whole Christmas/oliday thing, is why is someone that doesn't recognize "christmas" offended by a cup that says "merry christmas" on it. If you handed me a cup of coffee that said "happy hanukkah" on it, I wouldn't be offended? Why is that offensive? Its not like it says "go f' yourself if you christian". People seem to think the constitution, it says freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM it. People seem to think they shouldn't have to see any symbol or trace of anything religious if they are not. I've never understood that. If you are not religious, why is religious symbolism offensive?
To quote Rodney King "can't we all just get along?"
parrothead... I wish the cups say 'go f' yourself.. lol :) i'm partner and customers do get offensive looks on their face for stupid things. I've had someone ask me why it doesn't say merry christmas even though we play christmas music. haha
I think people now a days are just WAY to sensative. If they don't like something, thye just think they shouldn't have to see or hear it. what the hell happened to being "open minded"? Isn't be offended by someone that you disagree with in and of itself close minded?
Lemme put it this way parrot, I don't care what anything says, merry christmas, happy hannukah, kwanza, happy winter solstice, I don't care.
I really could not care less, what bothers me, is when a company decides how they choose to celebrate the holiday (which is their right according to the constitution, as you put it) and people start whining because their religion isn't recognized over everybody elses religion.
They find it offensive, that the company chooses to use their right to express whatever they feel like, instead of catering to their religion specifically. I have seen this time and again. And sadly, its mainly from Christians, they think that they have a monopoly on the winter season when it comes to holidays. And I can assure you, most of them would scream bloody murder if a company supported any religion besides Christmas. And even going so far as to wishing people happy holidays for the winter season, puts them into hysterics.
As you said, why can't we all just get along?
Just_Say_No- I agree with you, about 95% at least. The only think I would state differantly, is that the most complaining I hear, is from people that consider themselves "non religious". I think the reason so many company's HAVE to stick to the "happy holidays" is because of this group complaining about being "forced" to recognize a specific religion. I think christians do tend to complain about seeing "happy holidays", however, I don't think they are making the same stink as non relgious folks, that have forced corperations to make this change. Aside from that, I think you are totally on the spot.
I hate the people who have to come up and say something like, "Jesus is the REASON for the Season!" and then feel they have to repeat it five hundred times if I don't respond. I'm actually more Christian than anything else but I NEVER talk about my beliefs at work or usually with anyone else. I'm pretty anti-religious. I have many, many friends who are of various faiths or none at all and I would never, ever say that stupid thing about Jesus being the reason for the season. It is SO tired.
And, really, the reason for the season is that in North America, the sun is in another hemisphere, isn't it? Sorry, I suck at geography but I think the reason for the season is that the sun is in another part of the world. Ha ha.
WOW! that guy is out of control!
I also wish cups said go "f" yourself too lol.
Even though I was raised Christian, I'm not religious at all and I don't care what religion other people are.
That being said, I still realize we live in a nation founded upon Christian morals and values, where even today, 78.5% of the population is Christian. That's why we see Christmas stuff all over instead of Channukah stuff, though if someone said Happy Channukah I wouldn't take offense. Starbucks uses Christmas decorations, trees, symbols, etc., yet the only mention of Christmas at all is on the bag of the Xmas blend coffee. Saying Jesus is the reason... is too much though. Shut up and keep it to yourself!
That being said, Starbucks overseas celebrate the holidays of the other countries, including special promotions for products not sold over here in the US.
IT'S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR!!!
But not really....
This season seems to bring out the worst in people as far as I've seen. I largely blame the commercial, superficial hype imposed on us since September! The religious fanatics, however, are an entirely different bucket o' problems altogether. I like to remind these people that humility, kindness, and tolerance are unsung virtues-isn't that the "reason for the season"? Btw, I'm a Buddhist, so I'm soooo over this already.
Yeah, I've found that the ones who are adamant about name dropping Jesus twenty times in a conversation are the scariest, right-wing Christian nut-jobs around. Similar story around that: I worked at a movie theater around the time that dreadful "Passion of The Christ" came out. This lady comes up to my register and tells me she wants to purchase ten tickets for this movie and that she will be seeing it on Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday is a big deal for Catholics. (I used to be Catholic but I gave it up for Lent, har de har har!). Anyway, I'm ringing her tickets up and she says again, "Yes, my church and I will be seeing this movie on ASH WEDNESDAY". Yeah, I got it, lady. I tell her the total for the costs of tickets and as she's handeing me the money, she says, "God is working a miracle to have this movie shown on ASH WEDNESDAY! Make sure these all of these tickets are for ASH WEDNESDAY!" I think she wanted me to ask about ASH WEDNESDAY and was seriously bent out of shape that I wouldn't.
Honestly, what is it with these cretins?? Ha ha. I had to share this with you all. Hope you get a laugh from it.
I think starbucks should have allowed partners to put together the "I wish" sayings...then "I wish customers would go f themselves" would def be one.
They are no differant then the people that scream and yell that meat is murder, SUV's are killing the planet, blah blah blah. Anyone on the extreme end of anything, for the most part, is annoying, weather you are a right wing nut, a libreal left wing whacko, bible thumping relgious crazy or an atheiast that hates all things relgious. These people make up a very small part of our population, but they yell louder then the rest of us. I'm so tierd of 5% of the population setting the rulse for the other 95%!
Besides, Starbucks is a Corp, its not goverment, if it wants mugs that say "he is the reason for the season", they can do that. If they want mugs that say "go f' yourself if you believe in god" they can do that too. Its thier right. If we don't like, we don't have to go there, or work there.
I just hate people wanting to be so freaking politically correct all the time wherever it may be; at work, tv, or just shooting the ****, so "A Merry Christmas to all, and to all a goodnight!" haha And have a happy 8 days of Hanukkah and have a Happy Kwanza! And have a great He Isn't Real! Day for athiests.
Happy Ramahanukwanzmas everyone!
Did this person not hear the Christmas music playing? or see the dozens and dozens of Christmas blend? This is one of the people who make Christians look awful. They beleive they are superior because they are Christian. She would rather insult every other religon and discriminate rather than say "happy holidays" which in turn makes every person a part of the season. what a b****
@phantomzz: I completely agree. it's both funny and repulsive that the aforementioned super-Christians can be so condemning, judgemental, and cheeky at a time when we should be humble, kind and compassionate. I have always wanted to ask, "what friggin' church do YOU go to where they teach people such vices?" Really, though!
Again, I refer to my post above. The people on the frindges of ANY movement make everyone else in it look bad. Its not just christians. All those people shouting how we should all be more tolorant of what others believe, but if you disagree with them, they start calling you a hate monger, bigit etc. Its the exact same thing. something like 70% of this country believes in god, in some form or another. The crazy bible thumpers make up such a small minority of believers. As always, its not the majority that gets all the attention, its the one's that yell the loudest.
