Starbucks takes everything that should be enjoyable about working in a coffee shop and turns it into an unpleasant experience. Here are my gripes about working at SB. After complaining to my friends and family who think it should be incredibly easy to be a barista, I was glad to find this website because other people just don't get why it's so stressful to work at SB
1.) I hate when I am double barring with a fellow barista and they are taking orders and getting in my way of steaming milk. They don’t even rinse my milk pitchers or pump syrups.
2.) TRASH: we have to throw our trash and every time I do this it is completely overflowing. On top of this catastrophe, someone always throws the bag of espresso grounds on the bottom! It’s heavy moron.
3.) When people order 4 Venti ice waters at the end of the bar!! “Just say yes” even though they didn’t stand in line and I have 12 other drinks to make.
4.) People who talk on their cell phones while mouthing their order. I hope they get cancer in their brains from talking on the phone too damn much. They’re probably the same morons who talk while driving
5.) Rushes without adequate employees. The recession is not affecting Starbucks, people still spend $10 everyday on their 6 shot white mocha with caramel drizzle with 10 pumps raspberry and 20 pumps vanilla, etc. So give us more hours and don’t insult our intelligence please.
6.) People should realize all that espresso causes stomach ulcers! you don’t need 6 shots ****
7.) Parents who bring their kids in and order them Grande espresso drinks with whip and sugar! Now they’re addicted obese coffee addicts at a younger age than any other generation! Horary for you , worse parent on earth.
8.) 10 minute breaks- what a joke. All supervisors and M take at least 15-20 minute breaks and after they end their 30 minute meal break, they sit down for an additional 10 minutes! They think they’re superior
9.) Being a sales person for VIA. It has no taste. We get in trouble if we don’t push it on people but most customers are annoyed by constantly being asked if they want VIA or a pastry
10.) Customers who make asinine jokes at your expense and think they’re so clever and funny. You’re not funny, you’re a moron for spending $10 on one drink
11.) The pay is a joke. We do so much work with no commission or real incentive
12.) Starbucks Culture—We learn about this in training. What a joke, all the stores look exactly the same filled with crap and junky merchandise and dirty chairs. WHAT CULTURE? -- Apologizing for things that are out of our control. When you are behind the counter, customers think they can treat you like a child and berate you until you...(insert revenge plot fantasy) And it’s not their fault because that is starbucks culture. I’m sorry your life is so horrible you feel the need to come in and vent you **** at me and others. **** off
Some things I don’t Hate about Starbucks
1.) Our mark outs
2.) Free drinks whenever we feel like it
3.) Some customers are decent : )
4.) Giving the regulars who are A-holes or make perverted comments decaf and burnt milk. I don’t care if they complain. I smile, apologize, then give them a free drink card. But if they come back, I’ll just do it all over again until the glorious day they don’t return.
That’s about it
As a former customer, I had no idea what baristas had to put up with. Now as a Barista, I would never return to Starbucks as a customer and the day I find a new job, I will quit and never look back
