I interviewed at a mall starbucks which has 9am to 9pm hours. They passed me off to a 4am-12am location. I was NOT hired because of early availability.
The first day of work i was asked to fill out an availability sheet. Having never done this before, I expressed that I didn;t know what to fill out, and the manager implied that it wasn't a big deal, just give a vague sense. I filled out general availability, and said that I didn't want to work super early or late, but would prefer early shifts to working weekends.
My schedule turned out to be 4am to 6 am start times, including Saturdays AND Sundays. After a few weeks, I complained...now I only work Saturday mornings. I'm very frustrated because I have been getting sick all the time...have already called in sick 3 times since starting in late September.
At first, they loved me...said I was thier best new hire in a while because I caught on SO fast. And I took the horrible shifts....but now I get sick and whatnot so I'm not sure how valuable I am...but I think they still want me there pretty badly.
I also told my interviewers I would be starting classes in January. Yesterday I told my boss that in two weeks I was starting classes and could not start before 9. She POUTED and exclaimed that she had no one to take those early shifts. This seems unreasonable...I'm giving two weeks notice of a change...i could be giving my two weeks notice of quitting! The conclusion of the conversation was essentially..."no...we'll talk about it later". She then left without speaking to me at all.
Should I put my foot down at risk of being fired? Can I call the location I was interviewed at and explain my situation? Had I known the job I was going to get, I wouldn't have interviewed in the first place!!
Advice?
