I can personally say that I haven't received a SINGLE donation from any customers since Starbucks put the option to donate using the cash registers.
Now the question is: Did Starbucks DO a $hitty job publicizing the fact that customers can donate money through it, OR do we just have the most selfish customers on this planet who would rather spend $6 on a beverage they don't need every day, multiple times a day than give the money to Haiti?

no one has donated at my store....jerks.

I donated through the Red Cross, do you baristas still expect me to donate? Just wondering?

I donated through the Red Cross as well. I'm not a wealthy Grinch customer, but it's funny how we weren't even TOLD that there's a button to donate money, but, yeah, I was THREATENED by my manager to tell every customer about that crap VIA or else!
Nobody expects you to donate, I was just wondering if the situation was similar in other stores. I'm also willing to bet that most customers wouldn't donate, even if they did know about the option to do so.
This is the biggest PR lie I've ever encountered: Starbucks DOES NOT CARE ABOUT ANYBODY OR ANYTHING BUT $$$. Anyone who believes otherwise is either naive or a customer who's never worked there.Posted 3 years ago # -
Tell people donate money get a free drink lol

the whole time we had the sign at my store only one person donated $10. no one else even asked about the sign that we have by the register and I dont tell anyone about it. better donate directly through red cross to be sure that the money goes to haiti and not corporate (im sure they would find a way to keep it)

The Grinch is probably only doing this because it's a good PR move and it's for tax write-offs or something. Our store didn't even get a sign. I happened to see a printed e-mail which I wasn't even told to read and saw the button on the screen.

lol we made a sign out of a cardboard box. it's this one guy's kindergarten handwriting, so it's actually kind cute and looks like we did it to be all "help the little starving kids" art deco whatever. people eat that ish up.
no one has really donated at our store, and i certainly don't encourage it, since i'm sure "the grinch's" "three sizes too small" heart isn't really the motivating factor.

Those people have the world helping. If you want to donate, do something local.

good point, ****. (that phrase sounds funny and kinda made me lol)
but no, really. i live in a major metropolitan city with lots of people who could use a leg up. granted, some have their own selves to blame, but not all of them. and certainly not the children. why do we help when there's worldwide attention but neglect those eating out of our own trashcan on a daily basis?
(ps i'm not pointing fingers - i am equally guilty)
plus with the haiti thing (and the 9/11 thing, the katrina thing, the tsunami thing, etc) people are literally throwing money at whoever asks for a donation - even those crazies serving their morning coffee ;) - without taking the time to find out what charity it's going to, how the money is used, and if they should actually be supporting such causes. and usually it's not trackable anyway.
that, plus so much more, is why i tend to shy away from various "donate a dollar" promotions at different jobs i've had.

I've been ringing up a lot of drinks as donations. Like if someone orders a single item and I know what the total is without bringing it up on the screen I enter the amount under the donation button. You should too. :)

Great idea!

...what do you do if they want a receipt and they see it on there as 'donation'...

Tell them that part of what SB makes is going towards donations for haiti, and it says it on all receipts haha
