I'm not talking about the questions like "what is a latte" because that's a perfectly normal thing to ask if you're not familiar with espresso drinks so let's not be pretentious.
what's a REALLY stupid question a customer has asked you or a question that had a very obvious answer?

I am speechless.
I was asked if we sold soup. Someone asked me if a hazelnut latte has caffeine in it (my response: "Yep, unless it's decaf"). Someone asked once if we had pickles... I mean, I get at least ten stupid questions per shift. Maybe I should start compiling all of them into a book.
"do you guys sell hamburgers?" lol. i can't remember anything else right now but i definitely remember that.
"Excuse me, the c-caramel machiatto? Is that the same as a mochachino?"
"do u have diet?"
diet what?
"diet pepsi, soda,coke...."
no.
Lol, why would we sell diet soda? Srsly WTF lol
1. Are you closed? ( when the doors are locked)
2. Do you sell Coke?
3. Does the strawberries and cream have coffee?
4. Do you have a restroom? ( when we have a sign that says "No restrooms")
5. Is this a Starbucks?
Customer: Can I have a hot chocolate iced?
Me: You mean you want a chocolate milk?
Customer: No, just a hot chocolate over ice.
Me: ...You want me to steam milk to 150 degrees then pour it over ice...?
Customer: Yes
"what's the difference between vanilla and sugar free vanilla?"
"do you guys have like bacon"?
do yinz have burgers? (yes she said yinz)
is there coffee in a strawberries and cream?
after drinking 3 venti iced teas..
"someone is in the men's room and i have to go really bad, do you guys have a toilet in the back i can use?"
me: lol, no just use the women's room. make sure you put the seat back down.
I think the dumbest question I've ever been asked was by a lady with her kid who could have been NO older than like 8 and she was like "is it okay for my son to have coffee?"

yesterday was my favorite question of all time.
some guy asked for a quad espresso, actually he rudely said "Give me four shots of espresso". but whatever fine. i pull up a short cup write it and set it in line. the dumb @$$ asks if he "can have it all in one cup?"
really? because i was going to waste another three cups for your to have four shots. so i walked back over to the bar picked up the cup and said "sure, in a short cup." and showed him what i had written. the last thing he says is "oh that great thanks!" aye. some people....
an older lady came in, slightly white trash- but I don't judge. I'm go "Hi what may I get started for you today?" and she says,"i want some french fries." Not sure if she is kidding, I say "french fries?" and she is like "yeah a small" Unfortunately I have to break the news to her "I'm really sorry ma'am, we don't sell french fries here." to which she replies, "what kind of store is this?" "a coffee shop ma'am, but there is a Jack in the Box on the corner that sells fries." Without saying anything else she walks out the door and over there.
It's happening. People are confusing us with Mickey D's.
"Can I have a Pina Colada?"
Customer: (laughing) can I get a shot in that?
Me: sure.
Customer: really?!
Me: uh, yeah.
Customer: you guys sell alcohol?!!!
Me: Huh? No! I can add a shot of espresso.
A lady comes in, all is going well. She was scoping out the pastry case so I asked if she wanted anything. She goes: "Well, maybe. I have a question."
me: alright, shoot.
her: is the penguin sugar cookie a cookie?
me: I'm sorry, what?
her: *repeats question*
me: is the penguin sugar COOKIE a COOKIE?
her: yes. is it? (she is DEAD SERIUOS)
me: um. yes. The penguin sugar cookie IS a cookie.
her: ok. Can I get an apple fritter?
seriously?

"Can I get a mocha frap. But I don't want it blended. Is that ok?"
NO. That's not ok. I refuse.

speaking of non blended frappuccinos. someone came in and asked for a coffee frappuccino not blended and with no ice. after questioning her and finding out if that is what she really wanted we had to just say yes and give it to her. it was just straight coffee base right out of the sureshot. disgusting.

i guess just the silly 'whats the difference between white mocha and regular mocha?'
"What is the difference between coffee base and cream base?" --Trying to explain this is difficult.
"Well, m'am...coffee base is made with coffee...cream is made with milk and has no coffee."
"So...cream base has no coffee in it?" *This is the point at which I beat my head against the counter."
Customer: What's a caramel frappachetti thing?
Me: Oh the frappuccino? It's one of our ice blended drinks! Kinda like a coffee milkshake...
Customer: So is it cold?
@hatedmanager: I hate that the most. It makes me want to say "Why no, it's actually boiling...then we blend some ice cubes into it to cool it down." I thought it was common knowledge that ice cubes are frozen...thus making it a cold beverage. >_<
"What's the difference between the two cupcakes?" Well, one's chocolate and one's vanilla. "Yeah, but like, what's the difference?"

That's when you give them the By the Cup pamphlet and tell them any drink they order is in there. ;)
It bothers me when someone orders a latte, and proceeds to ask "Does that have espresso in it?" I suppose it only bothers me because it is on the Espresso Menu. I want to retort: "No Sir/Ma'm, I know it's under Espresso on the menu, however it's the only exception to the rule. It is actually scotch on the rocks."
"hey can i use this here?"
*hands me a frequent-buyer card to some random doughnut shop*
"um...no. no, you cannot use that here."

Wow. Are they playing dumb just to try to scam us or are they actually that stupid? I vote the latter.
I just think it's silly that instead of asking "do you know where I'd be able to find the nutritional information about this drink" they say "do YOU know how many calories in this?" as if I sit around memorizing it
