i love this site and can relate in so many ways with all of you (who hate Starbucks) cus i dreaded working there. I finally quit and have been free for almost a week now and i feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders cus i don't have to deal with crap from there anymore. My store was newly opened last summer in one of the richest parts of AL where every old hag and teen had to be seen with a starbucks cup don't let me forget the fine business men who throw money away there too. It was pure hell after one month of working there.
Thank Jesus Christ

Anna- so you had the experience you write about. However, you may not have been the candidate for the role of barista. Had you been passionate, knowledgable, and excited about your job, the outcome would have been completly different.
You talk about the cliental as though it's personal-it's not. Being friendly to people should be common nature. Gratitude, whether it be monetary, or, a pat on the back, is a great accomplishment. When you decided to work for this company, what made you decide to do so? It seems to me that you didn't want to in the first place-so why did you?
These people that you speak of as customers are the very same people that contribute to the bottom line and the stock that rolls every day. It is our responsibility as employees and above all as humans to make sure that every day that these people come into our stores is one that they carry with them. Because, no matter where you work or what you do, we "people" are what matters. We are in the people business serving coffee. And, had someone put to light all of the things that we do and matter-even on a small community scale in compared to what we do on a large scale everyday, possibly your experience wouldn't have been so negative. I'm sorry it wasn't, and good luck to you in the future.Posted 5 years ago # -
eisak:
You sound like you are one of those dudes from San Francisco who moved there from the East Coast and has had all irony surgically removed.
I love how you sound so deep, and yet practical at the same time.
You crack me up! I hope you have more incredible insights to share!Posted 5 years ago # -
the sound you are hearing is the sound of retching. ok, sorry guys, had to recover from reading eisak's post. typical corpspeak for nothing is OUR fault or its not me..its you. translation is.
Anna- so you had the experience you write about. However, you may not have been the candidate for the role (yes like acting its not real, its a performance) of barista but we needed to get someone hired so the store manager could go on vacation so we didn't take that into consideration. You were passionate, knowledgable, and excited about your new job opportunity, which is rare these days, so we hired you knowing that the outcome would be different than your expectations.
You talked about the cliental as though it's personal and it should be-but we know it's not. Being friendly to people should be common nature but we as a company believe that only refers to the persons on the serving side of the counter. The paying side can do what ever they want and you are expected to take it with a smile and gratitude. Gratitude, whether it be monetary, or, a pat on the back, is a GREAT accomplishment within starbucks because we have tried to, and almost completely succeeded, in removing the sense of gratitude from our employees and our customers. When you decided to work for this company, what made you decide to do so? Was it all the image marketing and grand promises we make everyday? Silly of you then. You should have know it was just a ploy and if you didn't then we can obviously NOT be held responsibly for your naivety. It seems to me that you should have know better in the first place-so why didn't you?
These people that you speak of as customers, but we prefer to call sheep, lemmings, or just dollars, are the very same people that contribute to the bottom line of starbucks income and the stock that rolls every day. Yes, yes, yes, I know they are rolling down into the basement but that is NOT the point here! Stop trying to make this about what is wrong with US, remember the problem is YOU! It is our responsibility as employees and above all as humans to make sure that every day that these people come into our stores is one that they carry with them. I know that they often carry that day with them by abusing you and taking out their own damaged self images and egos on you for no reason what so ever but again that is just something you are going to have to become accustomed to if you work for us because the company will treat you the same way. Because, no matter where you work or what you do, we "people" are what matters. (Aren't you proud of me for actually saying that with a straight face and sounding like i believe it!) We at starbucks are in the coffee business serving image so don't believe anyone who tells you "its just coffee", because it is so much more. Those trailer trash hags and teenagers that you talk about cannot afford the new prada bag to look like their favorite moviestar but they can scrap their pennies together and afford to carry around our logo and that is what we are truly about. And, had someone put to light that these types of things (hey look she drinks the same drink as britney!) that we do and that matters in our image not substance driven, superficial, money is what matters society-even on a small community scale like your trailer park neighbors, compared to what we do on a large scale everyday, think of all the thousands of trailer park hags and teens that buy our crap! I know your experience would have been just as negative, but at least you would have felt you were doing some good in this world. I'm sorry that you were not able to give up more of yourself to help others feed their image, but it has nothing to do with how WE are as a company and everything to do with how YOU are as a person. and good luck to you, and our company, in the future. I know we are going to need it even if you don't.Posted 5 years ago #
