Just wondering. How much do you guys make in tips per week or per hour. I am under the impression that I make the least amount in any Starbucks.

we range from a 1.30 to 1.45 an hour. not the best. and you gotta work a lot of hours to see any chunk of it.

HAHA not the best? i work in a relatively poor city, and no one here is cultured or educated much on how to respect people and thank them. During the holidays it was a big deal when we hit 1.00 - 1.20 an hour. Usually they are around .80 an hour for our store. A couple times i've seen them really low like .65 but people around this area just don't tip

tips are usually about a dollar an hour but me and a few of the baristas agreed a few weeks ago to start putting more money into the tip jar like when someone leaves money on the counter for their coffee before we can ring them up we just shove the dollars in the tip jar. if someone hands us a dollar for the paper and walks away we put it in the tip jar since so many people just steal the papers anyway. if someone leaves exact change for a drink and they usually get a venti, we charge for a short and put the rest in the tip jar.
since we started doing that the outcome has been pretty awesome. like almost 2 dollars an hour in tips! :]
also I think that when customers see the tip jar overflowing with dollars they start tipping more too because they think you're supposed to or something haha. I noticed that customers who usually never tip seem to tip when the tip jar is more full I guess it's a psychological thing. if someone sees an empty tip jar they think the service is bad.

i make about $1 extra an hour.
but i also think its cuz who ever is doing tips, skims the money before they divide it up.

my store is $1.40 - $1.65

i also work in a small store. we've been open for two years (this month) and we have only ever hired 3 people. and many have left. we're at 11 partners, including SS with the SM, 12 people working the store. so our tips don't have to be split so many times. other stores in our area make 2 an hour. but some like steam_machine (one of the drive thrus) makes like .80 cents. it sucks all around....

I work at the busiest Starbucks in North County. We're in a shopping center and our tips are absolute garbage... $1.40 an hour. The one down the street is nowhere nearly as busy as we are and they are getting $3 an hour!!
I hate this job. I'm quitting over the summer.

omg I would love getting 3 an hour in tips. it would make this job seem worth it almost
Posted 3 years ago # -
on a slow week we do about 2.80 on a good 3.50 xmas we do about 9.00 a hour
Posted 2 years ago # -
tips at my new store are sucky. between 1.30 and 1.60 (on a really good week) my old store it was more in the 2 range.
Posted 2 years ago # -
Our tips have gradually been decreasing and decreasing, yet .. I continuously drop full tip bags. Previous store, a good week was $1.50, a bad was little over a dollar. This store, we used to make about $2.50.
This topic makes me want to see if someone else other than our usual SS can count the tips. If they magically increase by a substantial amount, it's time for a damn witchhunt. That's my grocery money, and I haven't been eatin' lately.

no, no, no, you guys don't know bad tips unless you dip down to the .63 an hour range

sorry i made the comment a little while earlier, but thats where the tips settled around right before i had left

We just got a new hire shift. and while the mgr was doing first impressions with the poor sucka, she's all like what were tips like this week, and yadda yadda you can expect like a whole extra dollar a week" woah... like a dollar more... wow... um now it seems to be a reoccuring reallity that I am just a hard workin **** for da man.
Posted 2 years ago # -
Ha! The INDEPENDENT coffee house I work out has between 2 - 3 people on the busy am shift and they make between 30 - 40 dollars for a 6 hour shift. You picked a corporation to work for so yeah, they treat you like cattle and your tips will always suck. Quit the CHAIN and go make real coffee for a living.

Wow I totally get the point of support local businesses and fighting the man but you're getting super preachy javarista...it's a pretty terrible way to get people to listen to you. Just saying.
Posted 1 year ago # -
usually around $1.35/hr, sometimes more. it was higher at my old store. @javarista. I used to work for an independent coffee shop and we did make way better tips morning shifts I usually left w/ $30 or $40 and in the evening it was like $15-$20. but I got paid less, no benefits, and I got fewer hours.

javarista...I get $30/hr.
haha, not.
stop being rude.

our store is generally $1.40- $1.75.... still sucks.

My tips are down even moar since I posted last on this thread. When I transferred into this store, they were 2.5/hour, now we're at like, .. crap, a good week is 1.40. I guess that's what happens when you lose half your guise, overwork your remaining guise, and tank morale and customer-tippy-incentive with ludicrous new protocols and pricehikes.
On the otherhand, I'm personally intrigued by this javarista character. The enemy? His sense of duty is no less than ours, I deem. You wonder what his name is, where he comes from, and if he is really a troll at heart. What lies or threats lead him on this long interweb rampage from his independent coffee shop, and would he not rather have stayed there.. in peace.
Starbucks will make corpses of us all.

$1.50 - $2.00 an hour on a good week.
Posted 1 year ago # -
For a 20 something hour week, i got 14$....../cry
I left a store where I would easily get 30-40 for 20 hours.Posted 1 year ago # -
My location is one of the busiest in the state and pulls in .75 an hour these days if we're lucky. :|
Senor - If you find out if it is possible, let us know! I've overheard that our tills have been missing money on top of us suspecting that tips are being stolen by a barista/supervisor. We've gone down to about .55 some weeks after we were around 1.00 for the longest time.

Guys, feel lucky. Once at 33rd & 5th, we made .14/hr - that was an all time low.
Understand, there are 42 partners. All divided up. When our clientele are comprised of Europeans who aren't familiar with the concept of tipping. Average, though, we did pull in around .40-.55
I worked in some stores in Jersey, tho, An got up to $2.50/hr - but the store was shortstaffed to begin with, hence why I was even there lol

We typically only get about 1.25ish an hour. Recently it was only a dollar though, which sucks. It's probably due to the new partners we've been hiring. One store I used to pick up shifts at would fluctuate wildly from .70 to 1.50 which they blamed on thieving customers... I find it somewhat doubtful that that much can be stolen from tip jars externally. A different store I picked up a shift at recently was about 1.75 an hour, that was (sadly) very exciting!

be happy, my store gets around .40/hr if we are lucky, i can work 40 hrs a week and get 12$.... it sucks :(
Posted 1 year ago # -
We get $1.09-$1.14. I'm happy to at least get a dollar extra in hours! As backwards as where I'm currently located is, they do tip rather well as we get a lot of regulars who just drop their change. Then we have the polygamists that come through and actually sometimes tip $5 despite how rude a few are and lack competence when they order besides coming everyday. They have a thing for breve too. My old store no one tipped since we were located off the highway and got few regulars. I'd usually get $14 for working 20 hours.

When i first started at the bux i got a ton more hours and would get $50-$60 a week and then that manager transferred and we got a stupid one. i never got that many hours or tips again. Stupid btch.
