I think we will have to wait and see. Sometimes bringing someone back from the past doesn't always work out. One, the company is a lot diffreant now then it was. Two, repairing a company is a lot differant then building one up, in many ways, a lot more difficult.
Everyone seems to think this is the second coming. I am not as optomistic. Not that I don't think its a good thing, we just have to wait and see.Posted 5 years ago # -
So far this "Bean Contest" he's devised blows like the Devil's ****. I'm supposed to ask the DT patrons when they order if they want coffee beans? For ****'s sake, I asked a customer when I greeted him in the DT, and he began to speak over me, so I kept my little bean spiel going (because I'm just doing my job!). When he pulled up to the window, his face was *crimson* was he was *shouting* (Shouting!)at me for speaking over him. He told me how rude I was and he didn't care about the coffe beans. The kicker was he told me SBUX needs to get back to what it's good at, coffee. I laughed internally, because the Bean Contest was designed by Howie to "Get Back to the Basics" of focussing on coffee.
Yeah, I don't know what Uncle Howie is bringing to the table. I know it's early days, but I'm just not that impressed. I think the things that were brought on to make SBUX more lucrative (i.e getting rid of the La Marzzoccos and building Drive Thru stores are permanent fixtures. I feel like I am 1/2 step up from a Micky D's employee.

"The kicker was he told me SBUX needs to get back to what it's good at, coffee."
That is the funniest thing I've heard on here in a while!

Funny isn't it - as I recall him saying "it is not about the coffee" and we all know the coffee is marginal at best....so hummmmm not bodding well for Howard

I remember when we (the managers) used to care that Howard was coming or sending emails. Most of my peers just delete whatever has his name on it. It's no disrespect intended.....we just know that in the next two seconds we will get a duplicate of his email sent from the DM, RD, And anyone else that feels that they are howards personal lacky.
I wish we could go back to basics... We in the people business, serving coffee!
If we were in the people business, most of our customers would treat us with respect. If we were in the people business, we would have happy barists.
If we were in the people business, we would have managers that bonused based on the success of the store, not tring to meet some imagenary dollar amount.
I digress.......Posted 5 years ago # -
I am not sure it is completely possible for Starbucks to go back to its basics, at least not totally. Starbucks has turned its self into more of a high end milk shake shop then a coffee shop. Almost everyone I know that goes to Starbucks could care less about the coffee, and more about the frapps and all that crap. I think they could start spending a little more attention on coffee, and making that it better, with more options ( I hear the Clover machines are pretty impressive) but they can't just abandon what they have built, that would mean abandoning most of their customers.
