You know how sometimes customers are being stupid, and expect us to read their mind? They cannot figure out what they really want, and just don't have a clue? Or they order something wrong?
Well, often, I do realize exactly what they actually wanted, or what they stumbled over trying to order, but just give them the thing they manage to blurt out anyway, even though I know it's not what they want.
I don't know what that says about me, but I just don't care anymore.
hahahaha, that is soooooo funny!!!! cuz i do the same thing! i am past the point of caring, i like when they order the wrong thing. i think it's funny. i don't even care if i have to remake something, as long as the customer knows they are stupid, then i'm happy!
hahaha. like when a customer wants an iced latte instead of hot but they never say iced.
since it's summer now people do that a LOT and when the customer inevitably says "oh I wanted iced" I give them this really hurt and frustrated look until they just decide to deal with it. it actually works most of the time.
A lady today wanted a chai latte with "spice". I had no idea what she meant and my manager suggested cinnamon powder. She said that was fine and when I asked if she wanted it mixed or on top she said "whichever you want to make".
It doesn't take a physic barista to know what some people are going to order. It just takes a pair of eyes, ears and a tiny bit of prejudice. The following are TRUE real life example and NOT exaggerated in any way.
Example #1: Large ______ (fill in blank with racial description) woman comes in. Orders a Venti iced caramellow (<----Hint) frapacchino with XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXCR but with non-fat milk.
Example #2: Cheap guy comes in with 50 cents in hand. Gives me old dirty cup found in garbage, which already says CRF for Bob that I wrote 30 minutes ago, and demands a PTL w/ Rasp.
Example #3: Group of teenagers come in. Orders 1 tall VBF and 8 cups of water. Pays in loose change. Sits in corner sharing VBF with entire group and leaves huge mess with cups of water spilled, straw wrappers on table tops and napkins torn.
i dont think i follow how we are suppossed to guess what people want by just looking at them. So you are telling me you knew exactly that they wanted 8 cups of ice water? and dont you think that is racist to make fun of people that dont speak english that well? unless you speak more than one language i dont think that you should be judging people for not pronouncing things right.

i didnt say people who didnt speak english i said speak english WELL, since english is my second language i know how hard it is to speak two languages and i know you can NEVER perfectly speak the second language whatever it is, racism is a type of prejudice.

but 99% of the time ( this is just guessing drinks) its prolly going to be right.
@coffeesoldier - im not making fun of them, im just stating exactly what they said and did. and i speak 3 languages fluently; as english is also my 2nd language. but when people come into my store and start ordering in a different language and expect me to understand them isnt exactly fair.
the whole point of my post was that, 1/3 times, i can tell what a person is going to order from past experience and generalization not to be racist. i am a minority, so racism doesn't benefit me in anyway.
people tend to fit their stereotypes quite often i have observed. The teens will always get their frappiccinos, and leave a huge mess, the fat bitches will always want a venti white moncha with extra whip or an XXXXXXXXXXXCR CRF, the old people will always want their tall coffee. People are predictable in that matter and i think that is what coffee bandit's post was trying to get at
Me: "Hi there, what can I get for you?"
Lady: "I want a breakfast sandwich."
Me: "What kind would you like? We have ham, bacon, sausage, veggie..." (list basically all of them..)
Lady looks at me like I have 3 heads.
Lady: "I wanted the WRAP."
Me: WTF. You said breakfast sandwich. Thanks for specifying and implying that I am stupid.
Now please order a coffee so I can decaf you forever.
