I've actually taken to saying "fratchaccini" on the floor (to partners) because it tickled me when someone ordered one in DT. Like I'll come to help out the person on bar and say, "I'll get your fratchaccinis."
Anyone ever asked you to put splendor in their latte? It's kind of like, "well, ALL our lattes are GRAND, ma'am, but yes, we can make you the medium size." "Yes ma'am, all of our lattes are splendid; we put a little splendor into every one!"

I just don't understand where Pike's Peak comes from. Peak is nowhere in the word--if you READ instead of just pulling stuff out of your butt, you can see that. That one bothers me more than it should.

I adopted Pike's Peak in my own store to mean 'coffee you really don't want to drink,' but I guess generally it's been called that because it's a mountain in the Rockies named after Zebulon Pike. Said mountain was originally 'El Capitan,' so on, so forth, Spanish settlers .. national historic landmarks..
Once, in mid 2008, so tired of correcting people, I convinced an old lady it was named after Christopher Pike, the 'first captain of the USS Enterprise.' Little did she know, Christopher Pike is actually the captain from the original Star Trek pilot. I always giggle when I remember her saying 'awh well that's so sweet of the company to praise our nation's heroes like that.'

Haha. It totally did. I've gotten away with some awesome things over the years. I once tried to tell a guy who kept saying 'Howard Shore' instead of Schultz that the reason there are so many Starbucks everywhere is from the money the CEO made from doing the Lord of the Rings scores. He called me out on it and, for being so sharp, I comped his drink for him.
I guess that kind of makes sense, but it's still stupid that people can't read a sign, especially if they're staring straight at it. But that old lady story is adorable. You're a wicked little man, senor.

Seriously, "carmel" is just an informal contraction for "caramel"...the same thing happens with "didn't/did not" and "fridge/refrigerator"; English speakers are lazy and like to shorten their words.
Do you guys pronounce the L in Salmon? or perhaps the second C in Connecticut? I mean, seriously, don't put priority over them with caramel's second A! These other words need some lovin' too!
I don't think the problem is with the missing "a" it is with along with the missing "a" the pronunciation also changes and instead of Carmel we get some customers that say it "kourmel"
At my old store, we had more people ordering "Artesian" Breakfast Sandwiches than Artisan ones. We also had a few people order "Asian" breakfast sandwiches...

Today, I got 'soy chi' in RAPIDFIRE even after repeating 'soy chai' to a lady. It's not crazy like some others I've heard, but she was -adamant- about it being a 'soy chi.' As in, there was a back and forth of her saying 'venti soy chi,' and me repeating 'venti soy chai?' for a good five minutes before, with a heavy sigh, I just brokenly mumbled ' .. venti soy chi.'
