I don't know if anyone else in the border states have this problem, but I work at a very popular mall store about 30 mins from Windsor. The amount of Canadian customers we get is tremendous. When I'm on register, usually an explanation of, "I'm sorry, we don't accept Canadian, but anything with a Visa or Mastercard logo on it will work just fine." I don't mind explaining that I can't accept a debit card and why, and usually the customer understands.

The other day a very irate Canadian lady came in a yelled at us that it was unheard of that we don't accept her foreign money until we gave her and her whole family their drinks for free. One, this is a mall with stores like Lacoste, Louis Vuitton, Coach... etc. Who would come here without a credit card??? Two, we aren't even on the border. My store is at least 30-45 mins away. It's not like I come to Canada and expect people in Toronto to accept my American money.

Does anyone else have this problem? Do you think it was a scam? (I'm from Canada and us folks are nicer than that.)

i wouldn't have given it to her. be like do you know what country you are in? is that the same country that is on the currency you are trying to give me? then I can't take accept that currency you'll have to find another form of payment.

I used to work in a mall location in the Southern U.S. and we would have customers attempt to use Canadian $$(coins) to pay us also. Sometimes we just let it slide and let them shortchange us a penny or so, but if it was attempted with a "quarter" plus they had to give us another form of payment. If they didn't have it we told them there was 2 different banks in the mall. Since we were always busy their drink would be so far down the line that we could pull the cup and the drink wasn't made. These were always American business travelers and sometimes they would get p****d! Who cared, I wasn't getting in trouble for their idiocy.

*grumbles* Us in Canadaland take American money up to $20 (at least, it was when I was working at the bux), no matter where we are, for the most part.

Kinda wish it was the same across the border!

there is no way of factoring the canadian money into the deposit. simphony will accept it but the your deposit is fd up the next day.

Nobody handed me any foreign currency yet, but they did try to hand me their supermarket key chain card . . . she appeared homeless and really hungry :(. But before that I tried her two credit cards and three banking cards . . . In the end, I gave her a drink.

Paying with foreign currency? might as well try to give me monopoly money. sure its cute, but it ain't buying ur latte.

at my store we sometimes get pesos. when i count the tills down for the next shift, i find them and i throw them in the garbage. its where they belong. this is america. I don't know what a "Pey-so" is anyway. :-D
