Haha, an aging hipster with another axe to grind, really.
I've <3ed the National since about 2003 when I first heard the entirety of Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers. But, I'll post another from Alligator.
The National - The Geese of Beverly Road

When I have had a really, really, really long day, full of annoyance, ignorance, frustration, and anxiety, nothing soothes the storm than some very experimental noise,
Melt Banana: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAdC2GtvgRA
Doddodo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-04UCgxPeSoFor days where my customers make me sad, rather than mad:
Elliott Smith: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ogg2RbPypug&feature=relatedo_o my hipster senses are tingling and making me ashamed of myself/love myself at the same time for knowing :x

While I was setting up the promo the other night, they played Beach House, Echo & the Bunnymen, and Grizzly Bear. Which was pretty sweet. It makes me mad when they play good music because I want to hate it so much but I can't.
Listening to this now:

Oh and @senor, "I knew them before they were popular!" amirite?
Not a hipster at all.... :3

I don't listen to the crap they play at Starbucks. I know better. I usually save it for when I'm someplace else. If anything, when I'm in the store I listen to Rage Against The Machine.

Totes not a hipster. I totally did not just change out of my frap-riddled work clothes into my size 4 girl's jeans, an old American Fear t-shirt (all out war, specifically), and a black plaid flannel.
And put on At the Drive-In - For Now.. We Toast http://youtu.be/6xBPlEN_pzI while brushing the mochanut out of my hair.

Gorillaz new release, The Fall. It's meh.
Posted 2 years ago # -
Yayyyy to both At the Drive-In and Gorillaz :D @cruisy, The Fall is certainly no Demon Days, but I liked it a lot better than Plastic Beach.
I listened to Sisters of Mercy all the way home from a fraptastic afternoon (I have a soft spot for ridiculous 80s goth rock, not sure why..) and am now listening to Lykke Li ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iF_BcZRpsiU ) which is pretty good, kind of a mixture of La Roux, The Knife, and School of Seven Bells.

I have listened to The Fall about 5 times now, and you are right, it is better than Plastic Beach. Except Empire Ants, that is just a great song. :)

I can't stop listening to the new Panda Bear! Even though I saw Fleet Foxes last night and they were amazing.

I've been jamming on Sisters of Mercy all week. Before that it was Johnny Cash and Hank Sr. I'm in kind of a weird gothabilly phase I think.
EDIT: He*lls yeah Dolly! I don't know what is is about Andrew Eldritch's voice and driving basslines that so perfectly encapsulates the existential horror of a long day of frappuccino production, but somehow it just works.
@senor: At the drive in was that kinda loud screamo-ish band that was on the Beastie Boys' label right? I got really into them for a minute 10 or 11 years ago, but have not kept up with them since. They are still together?
Posted 2 years ago # -
@ Baron, I hadn't listened to them since high school but it fit the mood of sulking evil and impending doom perfectly and made me want to go back and listen to all my old music.
And At the Drive-In is pretty screamo, I guess. They broke up a while ago (definitely before I started listening to them) and Omar and Cedric went on to make the Mars Volta, of which I am much more a fan.
In related news, TMV is doing a few shows in the US and I was so excited to get a ticket, but they decided to tour with Soundgarden so all their venues are huge and their tickets are no cheaper than $120, up to $400. So that plan is out. :C

Circa Survive - The Difference Between Medication and Poison is in the Dose
http://youtu.be/TgRndnHVsPIAnthony Green makes my boy parts tingle.
@THEBARON Mmm, they were ish. They never really fit into the whole post-hardcore scene because there was so much moar to the music. And yeh, they were on Grand Royal near the end, and then ATDI collapsed under the weight of its own awesome nigh ten years agone. The split initially formed two different bands: Sparta, and the Mars Volta.

Dolly beat me to it. She can also beat me whenever she needs to release pent up frappy frustration!

Liars - Scarecrows on a Killer Slant
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kf7ZUaZ1b7sThat song is perfect before Frappy Hour because it gets my blood boiling and my hairs stick up. Nobody messes with me.

Ah, screamo...ATDI definitely borrowed from the early screamo bands of Gravity Records n' such. Flip your wigs and look those bands up(Heroin, Antioch Arrow, Clikitat Ikatowi, Angel Hair).

Thanks for the history lesson. Others have recommended Mars Volta to me, and I thought I had heard a few tracks, but either I am remembering wrong or the style is much more laid back than At The Drive In. I will have to look them up on the youtubes or the pandora when I have time to sit and listen.
Posted 2 years ago # -
They're much more... I guess progressive (?) than ATDI. The voice is almost unrecognizable as belonging to the same guy. I would listen to Bedlam in Goliath or Deloused in the Comatorium as your first album.
As for what I am listening to right now:
Ah Toy - French Kissing
http://www.last.fm/music/Ah+Toy/_/French+KissingIt's not on youtube but you can play it directly from this site. Sooo good for driving on a summer night.

Awwh Dolly that was <3.
For these few brief, fleeting moments before I go in for yet another day of unremitting horror, I suddenly just recalled flights home from college and the album I'd fall asleep to- Jimmy Eat World, Clarity. Little something from the days of yore. .. those long dead halcyon days.
Jimmy Eat World - Just Watch the Fireworks

Two Nirvana songs played today...I was a happy camper :-)

Hefner - The Hymn for Alcohol
http://youtu.be/qzInVf7JM4IAs lukewarm as I am to Nirvanah, I can't help but feel that Kurt Cobain probably rolls a bit moreso in his grave every time one of his songs comes up on the 'Frap Rock' mix. On the otherhand, as much as I enjoy hearing bands I've known of and liked for years that were never very mainstream or popular, I loathe when they pop up on mixes at work- because then they become associated with the waking nightmare of an orca howling about 'curmel' at me.

Cursive - A Little Song and Dance
http://youtu.be/1wOao8zbmLQ.. is that YOU, Baron? 'cause if so that's pretty awesome. It's pretty awesome regardless. But it'd be moar awesomer if it were you.
Posted 2 years ago # -
The real Baron is very mysterious and elusive. His true form has been suggested through maddening passages in ancient texts hinting of an unseen, half-amorphous horror, but few have seen it and told the tale. I leave you to draw your own conclusions ;).
But thanks. I had 5 better takes, but the iMac gremlins ate them. At that point I was tired and frustrated and just wanted something to show for my effort.

It was of great and serious win, good sir, and might I add you are a handsome, strapping young lad.
