@GaveYouDecaf How do you tell people to get in line for their iced water? I don't mind giving it out when they order at the register but I absolutely hate it when they ask for it when I'm on bar and I have paid drinks to make.

I have a borderline phobia of making any drink that is no foam with lactose free milk!
I'm not sure why, but lactose free milk LOVES getting super foamy! It doesn't matter how skilled I've gotten, or how many times I have practiced, there is still A LOT of waste! Lord help me if they want the drink extra hot!
At my old store I had a semi-regular (saw her once or twice a month) who ordered a venti 190 degrees lactose free no foam latte, and she was NOT scared to send it back if there was even half a centimeter of foam ....I'd have a mini panic attack every time she came in the door and I was on bar, ESPECIALLY during a rush!

@OrangeBlossom, two things. One, if it is soy or any other variation of lactose free milk, just don't aerate it. Let it screech. The customers will become uncomfortable as they wait for their drinks. They then know the next drink to be passed off was the one making the terrible noise and they all give that person the eye. Or do what my bar one does and scoop off any foam that made it into the cup and BANG it back into the pitcher so everyone can hear. He does this in clear sight of all the customers too. Make the customers uncomfortable. Also, on the 190 degree thing. My bar one and I never steam milk that hot. It is a safety hazard to us because that is usually the point where it starts to rise in the pitcher, bubbling over. Also when pouring it, some can land on you causing you to be burned, however minor, and that is not something you signed up for on the job.
I hate seeing the all foam venti cappuccino lady come in when I have a line of drinks and no bar two. I have to steam two pitchers of milk for her drink and there is so much wasted milk and time put into her drink. Don't get me wrong, she is incredibly nice and patient. But the other customers waiting behind her are not.

Smoothies and iced shaken teas/lemonades really interrupt the flow on bar - the smoothies because they have so many ingredients and take longer to pour, and the iced teas because they have no downtime to start or finish other drinks.
I hate making doubleshots when the store is busy, AND when the worst regular ever order his, but otherwise they aren't that bad.
I never steam more that "extra hot" (I think it is set at 180?) no matter what. Most people can't tell.

I dread the entire cold beverage station.

You know, when you've done this long enough, there are few drinks that fill you with dread. You can take on entire legions of coldbevs, bar drinks, and everything all mixed into one force of terror. There is but one drink I fear.
..and that, is the iced green tea latte. **** it in the eye.
If done according to recipe, the customer always returns it and wahwahs about the matcha being chunky. If you go out of your way to make it perfect (fill the cup with a half inch or so of hot water, scoop the matcha in, then stir like a retard to dissolve it, then add the rest of the ingredients (with more milk and less ice to make up for the hot water) and stir the matchamilk+classic one last time before adding ice), it'll back up your entire queue and operation because you can't take focus off that horseshit. Needless to say, both ways take the exact same amount of time. There is no escape from the timesink.

^I agree completely about the iced GRTL. Ugh. The worst part is that these people always over-modify them. Probably because it's disgusting and needs modification.
But... I shake them. I fill up a shaker with milk to the tea+water line, add ice, and then the matcha on top (to keep it from sticking to the bottom). Shake, and hold back the froth.
It's still a pain, but I find it easier than any other method, and customers have never complained or asked for it made any other way. :/

Hate smoothies, hate refreshers, hate MCFs, DCCFs, JCFs, and MCCFs. And most short things that aren't brewed coffee, kids hot chocolates, or Americanos.

I am really coming to detest the Caramel Macchiato. Throw any combo of hot and cold beverages at me, but in the middle of a morning hot bar rush, when I'm in my groove in routine, the whole caramel drizzle and the build order of the drink throw the routine out of whack. Then I have to regain my groove, then comes another one. Ugh. Makes replacing like with like nearly impossible.
