   Ok, I found this forum through a google and I find it **** hilarious. I am just a regular customer and I keep it simple, I only get iced teas (at least I think it is simple enough so my baristas don't hate me).

   Anyways, I am asking for some details on how to hit on baristas successfully. Or, what has worked for you in your experiences. I think one likes me and I want to ask her out , but I also don't want to put her in a weird spot with her employment and stuff, or make her managers hate her.

   And my guess is that the baristas can never be the ones to make the first move - due to the possibility of it blowing up in their face - but what are things you have done / gone out of your way to do to express interest, if any? LOL at this site again.

   At my store we all hang out outside of work and we've invited cool regulars to hang out with us before, so maybe when there's a community event or something cool going on in the neighborhood you can tell her but as an invite to everyone in the store. If she really is interested I'm sure she'll go.

   NO! I do not, nor would I work at a coffee shop of any kind... I enjoy making coffee too much to make it a job. I would last about ten minutes working at a Starbucks. I have an EXTREMELY low tolerance for bad management, and it seems from reading this site that there is no shortage of bad management in this corporation. After I sore outloud after tasting what passes for straight espresso they would fire me.. ;-) I have been home roasting coffee and making espresso at home for ten years - the last four on better equipment than starbucks now uses (really)! I hang out here because, as the title states, I hate starbucks. I should probably start a thread of why..

   So, just to set the record straight, I have never posed as a starbucks employee here or anywhere else. Just trying to bring a bit of levity to this site to help lighten the mood a bit, and share some of my 60 years of life's experiences, some of it working for some really bad bosses and really large companies (I was an L.A. Unified School District teacher for a while.. talk about bad management!).

   Oh man I love when guys hit on the girls. They are terrible and make me laff and also feel bad for the poor girls that have to put up with you dumm guys. You might as well go for it. It could work out for you or all the baristas can giggle at you everytime you walk in the store. I never really go for trying to pick up a girl while she is **** working. That's just me though...

    It's a double standard, but as a BROHAMMER, it's a smidge different. When a girl flirts with me while I'm working, it's flattering. When past female coworkers have been hit on by male customers, .. I mean, if they're not flirting back, then it just becomes extremely uncomfortable. Judging by uh, my self-esteem, though, I mean, any positive attention while my HP and MP are drained to zero on the clock is a boost. Tangent time, but to be totally honest .. doesn't even have to be a girl, either, but when a customer is just nice and smiles? That helps me through the day.

    I dunno, it's a weird situation to try to hit on someone/ask them out while they're working in the first place. There are many variables. BUT I WILL SAY THIS:

    If they're outside, and appear to be on their half-hour unpaid break, they're off limits. Let us poor swine enjoy what little time we have to rest our feet and ease our battle weary <3s.

    I kind of feel the same way about being hit on at work as I do about being honked at by passing cars as I'm walking. It's flattering, yes, because somebody thinks I'm remotely attractive, but at the same time it's a little demeaning. Being at work adds a whole new level of awkward because I feel obligated to make customers happy and make them feel good about themselves so I am inclined to reciprocate any positive interaction even if I don't feel interested in them at all. On rare occasions, I have initiated conversation with attractive males by commenting on their clothing, the book they're reading, or by just making stupid small-talk, but again, these occasions are very rare and their frequency is directly related to the male's choice of beverage (coffee, tea, americano, espresso = ok; frappuccino, vivanno, skinny anything = not ok) and how busy we are.

    Dolly, I agree with you. I hate when I am nice and customers take it to mean I am hitting on them. It's my frucking job! I get paid to smile and ask how you are doing!!! If I was really hitting on you it'd be on my day off when I am on the other side of the register wearing my sexy jeans ;)

    I use to.. Graduated Poly High in '69 (you betcha!), and L.A. Valley College. Got married to my high school sweetheart in Burbank (where she lived when her parents threw her out of the house at 18 for seeing me). Went to college up north, moved back down and taught there as well at working at a Valley bicycle shop, then moved back north permanently. Ten acres, two German Shepherds, and do not miss LA at all except for the music scene. That's OK. I make my own music now!

    Yeah tips will get most baristas to flirt back, but don't be fooled by the nice customer service and smiles cuz i'd say a good number of employees are fake, at least the ones at my store.

    I'm new to this forum, so hi all! And I find you all hilarious and I <3 you already... I'm a fellow barista approaching my one-year-death-anniversary (since I started working for The Bux)

    Anyway I just wanted to add that getting asked out at work is horrible. Most recently, I was having a kinda stressful busy day on till dealing with the usual high-maintenance assholey customers, and then when I finally got a break, I just wanted to sit down for a while and relax. But this guy was staring at me and when I went over to ask him what his problem was, he just went into some lame pickup attempt, which made me want to chuck the coffee I was holding in his face. After I mumbled some excuse and ran away to cry in the bathroom (it was just a bad day), I eventually had to return to work, so I tried to hide behind the espresso machine but he continued to ask me if I wanted to "chat".... I'm working; where the fvck is your respect?

    I felt so violated, because at what other job would it be appropriate to just go hit on someone and ask them out? Just because we baristas work in a somewhat social environment doesn't mean I'm here to socialise with all the d-bags who drink Starbucks "coffee." Maybe for you customers it's another day to get some coffee, get some work done, and pick up some chicks on the side but for me it's just another sh!tty person to deal with on top of everyone else who doesn't care to treat me like a human being.

    AND he asked me out for coffee? Seriously? I've been up to my elbows in coffee all day, I'm on my coffee break and I'm holding a **** cup of coffee, so no, I wouldn't like to go out for coffee. Fvck me gently with a chainsaw first, please.

    So please take your nastyass, overpriced, oversweetened, oversized beverage and shove it where I will most certainly not be going. AND he didn't even tip me, the b@stard. Fvck you kindly.

    (okay sorry for the huge rant as my first post but apparently I really needed to get this off my chest...) :S

    EDIT: I feel the need to add that yeah I'm kinda antisocial.... so, not sure why I'm working for Starbucks but hey some people seem to like me :D

    I would rather get hit on and asked out than get asked for a **** or other sexual things. Yes, this has happened. Had a regular, who I thought was a decent person but turned out to be a total skeezeball, come up to me as I was cleaning the condiment bar and flat out asked me for a ****. All I could do was laugh and walk the hell away.

    Creepy, hobbling old man always asks me out. Knows what my car looks like and knows the days I've been working even when he never comes inside the store. Yep.

    This one d-bag was asking me for my number and to get him to leave me alone I told him I was a lesbian (which is half true) and he was like "Whoooaaaahhh!!! That's even sexier!" OMFG. Blow me.

    I'm trying to get the courage to hit on a barista at my local cafe. The only reason I feel like I have a chance is because she has flirted with me on several occasions. But perhaps more to the point - She saw me when I was on a blind date with someone at a local bar and walked by, said hi and gave me a little play punch in the arm! I may be crazy, but I'm trying to figure out how to ask her out, preferably in a tactful way!

    I once had a guy chat me up in the lobby when I was on my 10 minute break. I really didn't want to talk and without realizing I was giving away vital information he asked me, "Long day?" and I mistakenly told him I had to work till 1:30. Then I went and hid in the back for the rest of my break.

    Well come 1:30 (which was probably 5 hours later) he APPEARS out of no where and follows me out of the store... I take the bus to work so I was walking to my bus stop and he kept following me. He asked me if I wanted to go eat something... and when I said "No. I've been working all day with coffee and I just want to go home and shower" he OFFERED TO DRIVE ME HOME. wtf?!?!?! so when I got to the bus stop he awkwardly said... "You know if you sold your hair you would get a lot of money."

    god! I think this guy would have definitely raped and shaved me if I were to accept a ride home with him.

    scary thing is, I never saw him after that day. :|

    That is SO creepy lightning...

    I get hit on a lot when I'm working (typically the only female on my shifts) and I completely second the sentiment of not confusing the good customer service with flirting. I'm hustling for better tips, not a sugar daddy.

    I learned quickly to never give out personal information, so if all you know about me is that I like the color green and my favorite drink is an undertow then you're probably not getting far with me. If I'm interested, you'll know it. However, if I blow you off multiple times or lol when you ask me out, it means I'm NOT INTERESTED.

    Me: (Screaming) Good Morning, can the next customer step on down!
    -Was on 2nd till and somehow people forget I'm there and rather decide to wait for the first register. Side Note: Feel like a game show host when saying that.
    Creep: *giggle...* Good Morning!
    Me: ....Hi, what can I get for you?
    Creep: (insert random pastry/coffee) *wink* Make sure they get it right!
    Me: Yup, total will be $8.43
    Creep: (Takes out $100) Can you break that?
    Me: Of course! Reach out to take the bill but while doing so he decides he is going to "pet" my hand and hold onto it while he winks again.
    - I wanted to run away as fast as I could. I felt violated and felt like I needed a cold shower right away.
    Finally give him his change and he decides to grab my hand again for way too long and decides to ask what time I get out. I told him 1pm :( cause I was in a rush to flee.

    Creep was Pedobear in disguise!!! Oh Noes1!1!1
