Annoying rich white people ALWAYS asked if drinks were sweet. Really? Its a MOCHA what the eff do you think? And businessmen always got drip, americanos or plain lattes.

Cruisy I do :) and its funny because when Im on reg and some asians come in, I just give my bar person eye contact and they already know what to make :) the other night I had a mexican couple come in and they ordered cappuccinos! it was wierd... (BTW Im hispanic Im not reacist lol its just funny)
I was wondering if it was just my store that was like that or if other stores had a certain type of drink that a certain type of people always get
hahah yea business people with their drips some just point at the brewer becuase they think theyre too cool to put their damn cel phones down!

Asians at my store get hot and iced green tea lattes. Asian kids get green tea frappuccinos. That's so stereotypical that it makes me laugh.
Snotty white girls get caramel macchiatos, but they always add tons of modifiers.

I do get a lot of asians getting grean tea lattes but they way they say it sounds like they are saying "venti latte...grande..." it throws me off then I realize they said "green tea" not "venti" :P

At my store Hispanics always get caramel fraps or white mochas. Indians get soy chais, most of them with extra pumps and/or no water, but not always. Asians get a green tea something, whether it be frappuccino, latte, full leaf or whatever.

It's not racist. Just true. They LOVE LOVE LOVE Caramel. I don't know why. I don't know why they must call it "caramelo"...and I don't know why they must also say "frappusheeno"
Asians like green tea anything. It's less frequent than Mexicans = Caramel Frappucino, but still a notable fact.
Indians and some Arabs do indeed like their chai lattes. We have several regulars who are taxi drivers, all from either India or the Middle East...Chai Lattes, every single one of them. All three guys.
White people get whatever their fat heart desires. White bitches tend to get iced teas and skinny whatevers.
Black people used to looove the African Redbush Tea. Obviously because it was 'from' Africa.
This is the most racist post I've ever done. But it's also the frankest, and most true.

Last night I had a Hispanic woman order a caramel cappuccino. I KNEW she wanted a frappuccino. I asked her, "You said CAPpuccino, right? With a C?" and she kept nodding and saying, yes, yes. Then when the barista called the drink, it turned out that the woman wanted a frappuccino after all. /facepalm
Anyway, I'm Asian and I love americanos and green tea somethings, too. ;)

Blacks at my store usually order extra caramel (with conviction) with their fraps, macchiatos, and chai. Latinos either order pike or a frappucino (wth caramel, but not as obsessively as black folks). There are a lot of East Africans at our location, and they mostly order so beverages or coffee. White business men order americanos, bold, or plain lattes. Several people also order coffee with whipped cream or white mocha pumps in it. Women (in general) order ice tea or ice tea lemonade, usually green. I don't see as many women ordering plain coffee. Come to think of it, since I've transferred to Oakland, I haven't seen any woman order plain coffee.

"Caramelo" is Spanish for "Caramel".
Although, even working in an area with a decent concentration of Hispanics, I never see the Hispanic-Caramel connection you guys are making. They buy cappuccinos by the dozens though. I'm not sure they're really aware of why.

At my store a lot of asians also order coffee in bulk. There's one guy who orders "FOUR LARGE THREE MEDIUM!" on the daily. No idea how he carries it by himself, wtf. Another from a Thai restaurant near me gets 8 venti pikes and 4 grande iced coffees, he always has someone with him though. Then another lady orders 10 venti bolds, I always suggest a traveler but she always refuses, it's funny...whatever.

large black women usually get extra extra caramel, grande in a venti with extra whipped cream caramel frappucinos. Or some kind of modified drink, always with extra whipped cream and some extra syrup.
or if they get a coffee, there are s.hit tons of syrup in it and half and half OR whipped cream.
indians always get an extra hot, no water chai. and they always say their order backwards... and when you've set their cup down for the bar they always add another modifier. plus they like to hand their credit card to the expeditor as if they have a **** register in their apron.

Black people's drink orders vary, although they're normally something overly sweet. But their modifiers are ALWAYS soy, no whip, and depending on the time of day, decaf.

indians love their chais, and their extra cups to turn 1 chai into 3 drinks.
black people: XCR CRFs
middle aged white women: skvls, 2 sp no foam (or some similar variation)
hipsters: soy chais or any cream based frappuccino
blue collar types: MFs or JCFs
middle aged men: coffee or americanos, and they refuse to say tall grande or venti
teens: PTLs or any cream based frappuccino
asians: I don't fing know, because I can't understand what they say ever. I just make whatever i think somewhat resembles what they were trying to say and they don't complain
fat people: white mochas, CRFs, VBFs, DCCFs, and no matter what drink they get it is w/ extra whip, XCR and venti sized.
also, the caramel macchiatto transcends race gender and age.

Oh man. This thread is hilarious... In my store, it happens that a lot of black people get hazelnut coffees. Or hazelnut americanos. Hazelnut anything, ****. And "some ah dat iced lemon pahnd cake". Indians do enjoy chais, or mocha - a TOLL SIZE/WENTI SIZE mocha. Or a "wanilla" bean scone. Asians tend to prefer green tea/lemonade (remonade, no crassic) or green tea lattes.

Asians love matcha powder. One night, 3 separate Asian people came in consecutively and order a hot GRTL, a GRTF, and an iced GRTL.
Americanos are also a favorite of their's.

But I guess I just care less, if you guys want to race to the bottom and have conversations about what people order based on their ethnicity, well, common sense will have to be your guide.

I've been fairly quiet on this thread, but I thought I'd put my two cents: I think this is stereotyping, not racism. Racism would be if we were to discriminate against customers based on their skin/heritage; noting trends is something else, I think.
'course I just moved to NYC recently from AZ so the amount of diversity I've seen in the past has been pretty much nil. I think as long as we're not changing our behavior based on the assumptions we're making, no one's being inappropriate.
Thoughts? I could be completely wrong.

@decafgrande, I agree. I don't think any less of someone because they order a drink that conforms to the stereotype of their racial group, I just think it's interesting and wonder what causes groups of people to order the same types of things, which makes it stereotyping and not racism. It's an unspoken social code that influences behavior (middle aged white women overmodifying their drinks, for instance) and the psych major that I am finds this very interesting :]

I've noticed the stereotypes myself, but I shove them to the back of my mind and try to forget them. Honestly, at the end of the day, while other people may not have the same skin color as I do, our blood and everything underneath is still the same color.
I originally had a very long tirade typed up complete with personal anecdotes that reinforce my many prior statements about how much I absolutely loathe racism, but I'm sure I'd be preaching to the choir about the genocidal, class war and segregationalist injustices our country has and continues to commit.
