Lets flip a u-ie. (this is also war strategics !!!!!)
What are 10 things customers hate about US!
Rather than US about THEM!

(in no particular order)
1. When we hand them cash with our wet hands (washing dishes while on drive thru)
2. When we get their drinks wrong multiple times (usually on purpose)
3. When we spell their name wrong (because we really don't give a ****)
4. When we give someone who was behind them gets their drink first (Because we have less cold drinks than hot)
5. When we can't hear them the first time
6. When we don't take an interest in their personal lives and just "Yeah, haha"
7. When we won't do what "The other store does it all the time"
8. When we talk about them within earshot (sometimes, also on purpose)
9. When we tell them we are out of what they want (and they know we get pleasure out of it)
10. When we tell them to go kick rocks.

My regulars absolutely hate it when we try to push VIA of any type on them, with the exception of like a small handful of .. weirdos .. who basically make our sales goal for us.

=O I forgot about that. I don't even push anything unless my managers are around. no one in my neck of the woods can afford anything besides the caramel frapps they're probably spending their entire paychecks on.

I give'em out like candy, really. Also, this cigarette tastes like grilled cheese. American Spirits full-bodied, I swear- every square's a new flavor. Sometimes garlic, sometimes cumin, this time .. pan-seared grilledass cheese.

I quit cigarettes cause my hipster room mate smokes them, literally just to look cool.
So now i'm cooler by sticking my nose up at them while drinking my whiskey on the rocks...with my pinky up.

Though when I did smoked, I smoke chemical **** turkish silvers. So they only ever tasted like yummy fakeness of the chemicalesque circumstance. :|

Eh, I smoked filtered Lucky Strikes when they were still around, then unfiltered, then rolled my own (lolo Top Tobacco), and when I was a kid I'd smoke P-funks because, c'mon, kids. Though if it's a party, I'll buy a pack of Djarum blacks.

Customers also hate it when I come in from a break stinking like I just chainsmoked, because ... I just did.

I stopped when EVERYONE would bum them, especially guys who wanted the pink ones
Ugh.
I started with Marlboro's. Just the regulars. Then turned onto turkish silvers.
For a while, I even smoked pall malls because the guy I was "in love with" did and I tried to live up to his punk reputation of smoking **** cigarettes and **** whiskey.
I never got into djarum blacks. I don't like the taste they'd leave on my lips, like...chemical cinnamon.

And god I can imagine how stinky you must have been. Towards the end of my smoking days, I only smoked enough to where the scent of the coffee covered the cigarettes.
But I worked with a guy who I think lived and breathed cigarettes because he only ever smelt like ****, musk, and cigarettes. Sometimes alcohol.
He could swim in espresso and it still would still not mask the smell.

lol, they hate it when we hand them money with wet hands? I do that a lot. I gotta multitask! At least they see me take my hands from the sink, so it's not like... mysterious wetness.

I got handed a soggy treat receipt the other day, along with some soggy bills, and the lady who handed it to me (airport employee, baggage handler or something) was like, "Yeah, it's all sweaty..." omgvomit. She didn't even try to apologize for it. And I probably didn't hide my disgust very well. Yeah... okay, I know, it's hot outside... but can you put your money somewhere that it won't get SWEATY?!

Anyway... I'm sure they hate it when I inform them of some policy I've probably just made up.
Customer: "Can you cut this coffee cake in 3 pieces for me?"
New soon-to-be supervisor: "Yea-"
Me: "Uh! No... but I can give you a plastic knife."
Customer: "You can't cut it for me?????"
Me: "Sorry... it's against policy."

I love making up policies. My baristas just gape at me as I make some up but it's the only way I can have fun at work and truly enjoy what I do.

"I'm truly sorry ma'am but I can't split your Venti Double Chocolaty Chip Frappuccino into 2 Talls - it's against policy"

"No, I'm sorry, I can't give you a Venti water, I can only give you a tall. It's against policy"

"No, I can't heat that pastry for you. You already took it from me and took a bite. It's against policy - but you can buy another one."

"No, I can't make change for your $5 from our tip jar. It's against policy. You can purchase something and I'll give you change..."

"No, I can't turn the music down. It's required to play at a specific volume"

I made a New Year's Resolution to say no to five people every day I work. It has helped my sanity so much! - That and singing random things as I'm working. It helps me not to jump over the handoff plane and start stabbing customers in the eyes with the splash sticks ...

it's 4am ... time to go to work!

OGKG, some of those policies are not made up. Once you hand out a pastry, especially if they bit into it, you can't throw it in the oven. It's a health code violation. Also, we are not allowed to split a venti into two talls. What we can do instead is give them an extra cup.

OMG My district recently had to get rid of our drive through trash can. Customers give us so much **** because its gone now, and they try to make me through it away and i can't. One person was all like, "IS IT CUZ I MIGHT HAVE AIDS?"

Of Course being a smart **** "First it's against health code policy, second AIDS is only transmitted through blood, needles and sex, and not touch. And lastly, McDonalds had to get rid of theirs too." The last part being true, making me suspect a law was made or some BS like that.

So ya, they hate it when I don't assist them in being lazy fuxs and throw away their trash.

Here's my list of ten things they hates about us:

1. No freebies after they finish ordering.
2. We don't charge them or make drinks the way all the other stores do for them.
3. We take forever to clean the restroom; alternatively it's our fault for not cleaning the restroom.
4. We enforce the refill policy.
5. We don't know that they really meant hot or cold, frappuccino or cappuccino, or espresso or tall pike. We're not mind readers.
6. We give them attitude when they ask the Batista on bar for free iced water.
7. We don't break hundred dollar bills or accept travelers' checks (don't even try correcting me if your store does)
8. You ask for XXXXXXXX XX-CR and we give you only XXX-CR. Same with whipped cream. Cry me a river.
9. We don't honor your gold card like you're a VIP or a celebrity.
10. Most important reason they hate us: we don't hand out recovery certificate like candy on Halloween.

If I don't know what the policy is, its always a no!
Anyway, here's my list:

1. If you're coming through the drive thru and order anything in a bigger cup, that's exactly what your getting. If you'd like it filled I will be happy to charge you for a venti whatever.
2. Joking about getting free stuff is not funny so I don't laugh. Mostly because they're always half-serious.
3. The wet hands thing. ALWAYS!
4. Dropping your change on the counter instead of putting it in your hand, the way you did 30 seconds ago.
5. Turning the music UP instead of down because you were nasty about it.
6. Sorry, your drink coupon is expired, the code won't work if I try putting it through.
7. Does anyone notice that they hate when we laugh? We could be laughing about a drive thru convo and the front register look at us like they smelled something really bad.
8. Ignoring the drive thru customer for a minute or two when they drive up screaming "HELLO??!?!?!? Hellohellohellohello!!!!"
9.The not taking trash thing. I have the same customer who will ask EVERY DAY with something new to throw away. We still have our drive thru trash can, which I've pointed out EVERY DAY. No, lady, its a health code violation!!!
10. That I have more fun at my job than they do at theirs. As much as I hate the place, I work with my friends and have some pretty cool customers. Then I'll get those few customers who roll their eyes and order a heavily modified drink and don't even tip or say thank you. Miserable!

1. Drinks are sometimes inconsistent.
2. We rush them.
3. We act like we don't want to be there and aren't very good at hiding it. In fact, we don't care if they know, we hope it deters them from returning lol
4. Sometimes we get too much pleasure in charging for every penny lol.
5. They hate when we can't do something because we have to stay planted on bar or register.
6. That breaking 100s is always a whole production.
7. That we seem to correct them when they order a drink wrong.
8. That we ask for a name.
9. When we run out of something.
10. Store policies are inconsistent.

I don't break hundreds. Unless the change is going to be less then 20 bucks. I've had people pull this "HOW CAN YOU BE IN BUSINESS IF YOU DON'T TAKE MY MONEY!!"

My response? "Your 100 dollar bill will wipe out my register, which will make it very difficult for me to make change for the people behind you, thus loosing on all those sales. Also, 100 dollar bills are easy to counterfeit. There's two banks at the corner that'd be glad to help you out."

Not to start the whole $100 debate, but my SM just told me it was illegal to not accept them. I just looked at him like he was crazy. Whatevs. I'll do whatever the policy is this week, 'cause next week you're just gonna change it again.

^ It is illegal to not accept them. Which is why instead of not accepting them, I never have enough change in my drawer because I always just opened my drawer or just accepted a big bill recently and I don't have enough change. Muahahaha.

I didn't know there was a debate. We only have a limited amount of change in our drawers, with a good chunk of that in small tender. A hundred dollar bill, converts most of that drawer into one bill, which is then difficult to break, which means we can't provide change for other customers, which means we can't make transactions which means we loose money.

Easy as pie.

What a coinkidink! This morning I had FOUR customers in a row try to break 50 and 100 dollar bills, and lie about not having a credit card/smaller bills. You better believe they didn't get their drinks made until they found another form of payment. I also told them that if they really needed to break a hundred dollar bill, there was a bank across the street and a second one 2 blocks up on the next avenue.

But seriously, I made a big fuss with each 50/100 dollar bill customer for over 5 minutes each... How did the next three 50/100 dollar bill customers BEHIND HIM not expect me to refuse their bills too?

....barista's ask them their order from behind the pastry case before the person ahead of them has completed their order at the cash.

...when a barista exclaims "OH it's YOU!! How ARE you??? Your drink is free today!" to the customer inline behind them. Quiet, keep to themselves, smiling, tip giving, birkenstock wearing customers are just as deserving of the occasional free drink as the stuck up fancy lady with too much makeup and a pickle shoved up her a$$. Seriously. It's annoying to hear conversations like that. If you are going to give Miss. Snobbypants a free drink, do it discretely.

...when barista's assume a non-fat drink = no whip. If the assumption must be made, then say "Light whip?" That give the customer the chance to say "Oh no whip thanks" or "Umm...regular whip is fine" or whatever. Nothing like the barista saying "So I assume no whip on your non-fat cinnamon dolche latte" which can only be heard as "You big fat cow, you certainly don't NEED whip...don't you know about our skinny cinnamon dolch latte? You seriously should cut back on the sugar too, sunshine."

Sometimes I don't quite hear it and make the awkward assumption that some person's vanilla latte or whatever was a skinny version.... "You said skinny vanilla?" or, "You said that was nonfat?" And when they say no, I kind of feel like I just implied that they're fat. :P It's not intentional... the skinny versions are popular (also disgusting!) so I tend to assume that's what people are ordering by default, regardless of appearance.

1) We are not robots and take breaks sometimes
2) We can turn our consciences on and off at will
3) We cannot change the price in the register or bend rules of special promotions for them
4) Many of us are smokers (GET OVER IT!)
5) We cannot make the line magically disappear because they are in a hurry
6) Our brains are not databases that have their name/drink on file
7) We don't take well to abuse
8) We will occasionally make mistakes, even silly ones, because we ARE human
9) We usually have better things to do that listen to their mundane small talk
10) We get that $5.00 drink for free on our breaks ;-)

Here's the thing. Starbucks has recipe standards that corporate makes for us. We learn these standards. Some of the drinks come with whipped cream, some do not. If you order a skinny CDL, the drink does not come with WC, so you need to specify it. If you order a regular CDL, it does come with it, and if you do not want it, guess what, YOU NEED TO SPECIFY IT.

So I guess what I'm frustrated with is that customers don't know our recipe books. Ugh, that sucks, because there's nothing we can do about it.

I just always ask... non-fat milk on a drink that gets whipped cream gets the QUESTION. people shock me all the time. fatties will say non fat NO whip... and skinny white women will say non fat BUT WITH EXTRA WHIP AND CARAMEL. wtf?

I think it bugs customers that they don't receive their drink in about 30 seconds after they've left the register.

The customers who get annoyed at us, are the same ignorant ones who we have to ask for a cup size, if they want it hot or iced, if they wanted it sweetened or no sugar.

When I'm on register, I rarely get the order wrong. While the barista on bar doesn't thank me for such precise writing, they don't have any complaints about me either.

When it's the other way around, I constantly have to ask customers if they wanted it sweetened/unsweetened and whip/no whip.

With soy and nonfat, you can safely ask if they want no whip.
