I was just trying to get some advice on what I should do about this problem. I am currently a shift supervisor at Starbucks and being a student every semester I give my manager my availability which they tell me I can only change every six months. Recently I gave them my availability which fit my schedule like every other time the schedule I asked for just in case your wondering is monday-friday 7am-4pm. Now my manager tells me that this is not a problem if I'm willing to take a demotion and a paycut. I felt something was wrong so I decided that I should take a look at the human resource manual and it states that as long as the hours are available and fit with the store needs then whether I am a shift supervisor or barista doesn't matter I am still qualified to get those hours. Also as a little side note I found out that if there are only 2 people working and you are supposed to take a meal break that the meal break is supposed to be a paid break no one has ever told me this and here have been many instances when I have taken such breaks and was not paid. If anyone has any ideas or thoughts that would be great. Thanx alot.

ooooo ok well this was told to me by my asm who just took this class and they say that because school is a prority then school is one of the excpetions to the 6 month availablilty change and on the form itself it says that if you need to change it earlier than the 6 months that you can and also if your manager knew you were in school before they promoted you then its not fair for them to demand you to pick that sounds kinda fishy you dont have any problems that the manager would want to demote you for and this is like an excuse??? cause it really sounds a little fishy ive only been around for 2 and a half years but i have had a lot alot of managers 4 sm's so far and too many asms to count but i have never heard of them not wanting to work around your availablilty purely because they are to lazy to work around it sounds like a a scare tactic or another excuse for something else

no my manager often tells me how he likes working with me and i can't think of any reason why he would say such a thing it's just really frustrating because i need the very few extra dollars i make as a shift but school is way to important for me to have to worry about such a crappy job.

I was told by my DM that you can change your avaliavablity whenver you want.. just not all the time... because stuff in life happens! right! So just stick to your availablitity and see where that takes you.. if you arnt getting enough hrs then talk to ur SM.. if nothing happens then goto ur DM or human resource person....
just FYI to withhold a shift possion you are supposed to work 24hrs a week.... if ur not scheduled that and are available for more its not ur fault. they legally cant schedule you to work while your in school.. they tried that with me.. and wanted to skip school to work!Posted 3 years ago # -
About meal breaks. If there are only two people working there is no way for you to clock out and have an uninterrupted meal break. Meal breaks are unpaid time, that you clock out for, which during that time you are not supposed to be asked to come back and help and than resume your break. Bottom line is if you work more than 6 hours, by law you are entitled to a 30 unpaid lunch break period. If you are not getting that break and your manager is taking the time away from you when payroll is processed that is against the law.
