I was actually thinking about this lately,
My old shop had a great mexican place across the street,a great pizza place down the street, sushi across the street, and a great burger joint.

My new store, is in a shopping center with a 99c store and a sketchy chinese food place. :/
So I'm stuck eating bagels or cups of noodles I bring from home

I pretty much have anything I could possibly crave in my shopping center. I don't go to a lot of the places because I would have to call in the order and then pick it up about 15 minutes later. I don't have that kind of time.

I have a subway and this place called Saigon Bistro. THey are to DIE for! Me and my coworkers go to there and get some Phu (vietnamese beef soup). But that's all i got.

I love pho, but it's so hot right now so I normally get the bbq pork sandwiches when I go to the Viet place near work. And I usually only go there on my way home.

  Possibly the most expensive Japanese BBQ grilling you can do yourself on a Starbucks wage. Fond memories of this restaurant.

  Again, not the cheapest thing around here but it's worth a mention because GRILLED MEAT! IT'S MANLY!
;__; Cold Stone Creamery at 2 Astor Place closed last year. I'm so disappointed! Now the only Cold Stone location in Manhattan is at Times Square.

When I was in NYC I had pizza at this little place near NYU, right across the street from Washington Square Park. It was delicious. Plus they had these great salads and gelato. Loved it!

I usually hit one of the two bagel shops on either side of my store. There's an asian marked next door that makes fresh sushi if I'm craving something different and an AMAZING greek place down the street that I wish we ordered from more often.

Noodles & Company, Paisano's, or Duk Wo. All good places, though Duk Wo has some good chicken. Paisano's has awesome pizza/pasta, and Noodles is pretty decently priced. Much better than smelling a heated Asiago bagel and eating it.

I'm so jealous, you work in my favorite area of the city! I'm on the Upper East Side so the coolest places I have are Patsy's Pizzeria and Lenny's Sandwich shop. WAH!

@sharpie Lolololololololol on the Dallas BBQ. I saw the one on 42nd during my visit to NY and snickered for a day. Coastals can be snobbish about their sushi, I'll brag about the brisket in my backyard. No shame ^.^

OH HAI STRAIGHT RAZOR I know who you are >:)

I usually just go to Quizno's and get some soup to warm my belly, and markouts because I'm cheap and lazy. Or sometimes Kabob King if I'm feeling regal.

I wish I had more time on my break, though, because within two blocks of my store are an awesome family-owned Thai place and another awesome family-owned Greek deli. And also yummy frozen yogurt <3 But I never get to take advantage of it.

Also @senor, summer dumpsters are a bit too pungent for my palate; I would, however, recommend the gentle sweet odors of the January dumpster. One deterring factor in my returning is the nature of my fellow dining patrons, though. They were a bit uncouth, many possessing beardly beards or too many legs.

  I recommend the Malaysian curry chicken dish, Nasi Lemak (spicy. coconut rice w/chili sambal, anchovies, boiled egg & curry chicken, potato), and Roti Canai (naan-like pancake served with curry chicken dipping sauce).
- Pongsri, 106 Bayard Street, 212-349-3132
  Thai cuisine. I love their pad thai, but that's just a basic dish. See the PDF menu.
- Sau Voi Corp (Vietnamese sandwiches), 104 Lafayette Street, 212-226-8184
  I tempted and teased the SM with these Vietnamese sandwiches, and I finally gave him the location of the shop on the last day when I finished covering there.
This is just a drop in the bucket for Chinatown fooding. But if you're working at 405 Broadway (Canal) or Canal/Centre, these are the most accessible eateries.

Cranberry Deli on 45th and 6th.

Sometimes the Waffle Truck Full of Hot European Boys shows up, and I will loose my sh!t like when a 20 something year old fashionista sees a PSL.

The only BBQ place I like in NYC is Wildwood on Park Ave South. Dallas is pure evil. Hill Country is ok, but I grew up in Texas, and my grandparents are from the hill country, so . . . I get picky (plus, it's over priced and you can't get a chopped baker.)

DALLAS BBQ: a mother **** joke to anyone from Texas.

Next time I'm in NYC, buy me a case of beer and I'll cook you a real Texan feast right at your place for you and all of your friends. I swear on this. Message me, and I'll actually do it.

The only thing Dallas BBQ got right was the margaritas. Frozen margarita with a standard, extra shot on the side. They don't even have Shiner Bock for Jesus M. Christ's sake, it's a Texas standard.

lol, most New Yorkers know that Dallas BBQ isn't the real deal. It's just a franchise bbq restaurant chain in NYC, just like Nathan's isn't authentic NYC hotdogs.

Thanks for the Chelsea Market tip, I haven't been there in years. Now I have a hankering for it.

@ ThinkDeep: I don't know, that was the only time I was on that side of town. Plus I was so lost when I got there (I had a number of people send me in different directions while looking for the park, it's a wonder I even made it there) that I wouldn't have known directions to save my life! I can tell you it was on the opposite side of the park from NYU.

@Dry Sharpie: I figured as much, but my favorite part was hearing tourists (visiting NY) talk about it and want to go to get Texan barbecue. I think the meta-novelty crowd is actually the intended demographic.
