So today the SM hands me a check. Thing is, it's a check for last payday that I had already gotten through direct deposit. What to do?...What to do? [evil laugh] :D
Has this ever happened to anyone on here. If so, what did you do?

If you get paid twice and cash both checks, they will deduct it from the following paycheck as soon as they notice.
Dang it Decaf. BUT...what if I cashed it at Walmart for $3. Walmart will give you cash without registration. Wonder if Howard could still trace it to me.
@BananaWalnut, the check will most likely bounce, and your bank will force a possibly $30+ fee upon you for the bad deposit.
Lol, if they haven't caught the mistake you'll cash it just fine, but will pay for it later. The check is totally traceable to you. It's got a check number on it. If they caught the mistake already, then Sharpie is totally right, it'll bounce and you'll have to pay fees.
Well, thank you Decaf and Sharpie for ruining my dreams of buying a Ferrari. I guess I'll hang the check on my wall so it can remind me of the things that could've been.
I have a question for youz twos: I know you are both NYC Baristas. How is it possible to live on a barista salary in NYC? Do you still live at home? Are you roomates? Not trying to be offensive. Just curious.
Didn't know you could get a Ferrari with $80 x 2 ;D
^ Lol, one can dream :p
I don't live in NYC. I live in Cali :)
I live at home, and I'm not really spending the money I earn from Starbucks. It's just $250 give or take every week being deposited into my checking account. I'm padding my savings account while I'm waiting on my other job applications. I'm also spending $4 or less everyday on food... I have a lot of loose change left over from the weekly tips.
Impressive Oo Can I ask what you eat? Outside of markouts? ;D
Dry Sharpie, $4 or less on food a day??? Howwwwww lol
I spend extravagantly for food, its disgusting. Easy, I can spend 30-40 on food a day in this city!
Well then. Where in California [does Arnold accent when saying 'California'] do you live? Los Angeles, San Francisco or San Diego (those are your only options because there are no other cities in CA according to the UN.)
Sharpie do you live on Park Av. in a penthouse with views to the park? (cliché but whatever), cause that is what I imagine your life is like. Then you gets a chauffeured Town Car down to Queens when you have to work.
There's cheap $1 pizza. Some neighboring shops recognize me as their friendly barista and give me discounts on foods.
Markouts are if I'm feeling grumpy and don't want to waste my time scavenging for food. I'd hide in the back room and sulk all half-long.
@BananaWalnut I live on the edge of NYC so it's 1+ hour long commute to work. I eat like I'm still in college: sticking to the cheapest food available. The only reason I work at Starbucks is for the employment record. My prospective employers will be asking why I wasn't working for consecutive months when I'm overqualified and have such a strong resume.
@MobilizedPartner: I too can eat $40 worth of food in one sitting, but I've been unemployed for a while and have eked out a daily lifestyle that costs less than $10 a day.
I am aware of this $1 pizza BUT - that can't be healthy to live on LOL. There is a $1 pizza spot on the street as my job, and management says that if they notice a trend where we frequent it to "too much" they might fire us LOL
If I really look at my expenses, I can cut down on so much. 17th street costs me ridiculous amounts of money to live on (I picked it because of its proximity to work and convenience of already being in the city) I never look at prices on menus, I just order - and admittedly, I am too generous and am always buying stuff for people - I have this ridiculous obsession with buying things I don't need (eBay really gets me with those Daily Deals. How can I pass up on buying a Blendtec blender at a fraction of the cost?) I am so **** lazy, it costs me money, too. Sometimes, even when I have off, I just can't seem to crawl out of bed and do laundry. I miss deadlines, have to pay fees - once I never got my clothes from the laundry... and when I returned all my clothes were gone and I had to angrily march down to SoHo and spend everything just to feel better.
I have a problem. But I know it has everything to do with the fact I grew never having anything. Now, I just can't tell myself no.
EDIT: I also hate how my roommates never want to invest a single penny into improving our apartment and I have to. I also hate losing money because I am too fxcking stupid/lazy to check my pockets before doing laundry. I also loathe checking my account balances because it disgusts me how much I spend without even trying.
Also, you order coffee at Starbucks. LOLOLOL that point aside, it would probably save you $5 a day not buying coffee/tea from the Bux. Buying two venti frappuccinos is about the same price as a pack of cigarettes in NYC but more deadly.
Lol oh God, yes, that too.
When I am going to the gym, I order a Venti Iced Latte with whatever modifiers. When I am going to work, I order two of those. When I am going to gym+work, I order two of those and a grande salted caramel hot chocolate.
Of course, not every day. But when I am feeling shi shi fu fu...
Which is too often for comfort.
Good god, sir. That's so extravagant Oo Buy a espresso machine on ebay! I also have the auction vice. I spend so much on comics from ebay. I wish you hadn't reminded me because now I'm checking -_-
I don't want to admit what my ebay obsession is. :-/
NQSE.... admittedly, I have looked at "espresso machine" alternatives online =X
Honestly, though, out of the sheer fact I miss having the convenience of a steamer to make **** with.
All of this talk is making me hungry and sweet tooth is acting up. I'm gonna run to Flavaboom before they close in 10 minutes. BRB
One thought, regarding the OP: my state requires employers to provide a voided check with every direct deposit. I haven't the slightest clue why, but every other week I get a paycheck along with my electronic deposit.
Also, confirm that it actually hit your account. One time, randomly, I got a real check instead of a voided one. Apparently the electronic transfer wasn't successful, so they cut me a check instead.
