For the past month or so our caramel drizzle has been crazy thick. It's an arm workout to "caramelize" a drink. What do you do to make it easier?
I've started setting it on my espresso machine, right in front of the grounds drawer on the left. it cools it to the point where its liquid when it comes out, and when its off the machine it doesnt thicken up more then original it just goes back to normak.
Ridiculously hard-to-squeeze caramel

Usually if it's like that, I'll just soak it in a Venti cup of hot water for a minute or two.

Before squeezing it into the bottles, put the CR slugs in a pitcher of hot water for about five minutes. It'll come out so easily, you'll need to be careful when you pour it into the bottle.

I used to put them in hot water, but then I got lazy, and realized I have more control over the caramel when I don't heat them. The only time I ever have trouble getting the caramel out is when the hole for it to come out of is too small, and then I just cut it bigger.

My manager won't let us cut the whole to make it bigger :(

People at my store don't give a drizzle anymore. We've had like 4 managers in the last few months. THEY HAVE NO CONTROL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!

4 managers in a few months??? Where are you hiding the bodies???

I keep our caramel bottles on the espresso machines, sitting tucked in the corner near where the espresso comes out (opposite the steam wand side). The machine usually keeps it warm enough to pour easily.

@GreenMachine: We no longer have a problem with thick caramel. We use an even larger sauce bottle with a wider tip, and we also keep these bottles on top of the Mastrena bars where the demitasse cups would be heated.
By the way, one of these X-Large sauce bottles holds almost one full caramel bag. It's crazy convenient.

my SM doesn’t let us cut the tops off either. But every time i cover another store they cut off all the tips of the caramel bottles! I don’t get it. lol
@ drysharpie: how do you get those giant caramel bottles? are they available to order?
Posted 1 year ago # -
I think my SM got them herself. I don't know where she purchased them from but it's a huge improvement over the generic sized squeeze bottles.
At first I was like :( using them
but then I was like :) XXXXCRPosted 1 year ago # -
ZOMG!!! I want gigantic CR bottles!

sit around the fire friends of ihatestarbucks and let me tell you an extra caramel HORROR STORY:
we had an awful batch of caramel, and this girl orders 'extra extra extra extra caramel' so obnoxiously on her frappuccino, I start squeezing the bottle, harder and harder to get this awful drink done with and then I realize im squeezing so hard, my fingers are BLEEDING!!
well, just one, but still.

I will never understand people's giant b0ner for CR... it's really disgusting.

@SCSHC, I'd have a few drops fall in there. Lol, this reminds me of something totally gross I did recently. So I had a huge open wound on my left hand which was exposed because I kept having to wash dishes and all that other good stuff. Then I got this super annoying guy who had a billion drinks on his order. Then he started ordering pastries and was being totally rude and annoying. Talking down to me and asking for the bottom loaf in the middle of the tray and all other nonsense. Then he says, "and for me..." I was so annoyed with him that upon hearing the next pastry was for him, I slid the pastry against my open wound as I put it in the bag for him. I know it was bad, and I know I don't have anything, but still, it made me feel good to know he was eating that s#1t. Oh the joys of being a barista.

We got reprimanded for putting the caramel bottles on top of the espresso machines, and also for putting them in hot water to warm them up... because it makes it runny. Also for cutting off the tips of the caramel bottles... we were giving out too much apparently (um, not me for sure... but, I'd guess it was all the xxxxcr requests). Anyway, they made us put the cut off tips on the chocolate drizzle bottles, making a big chocolate diarrhea mess on all the whip cream.
So I stopped squeezing. Especially for xcr, I will put the cup in sight of the customer, and just hold the bottle upside down and let it slowly (ever so slowly) drip out. If they want it, they have to wait.
But lately we got a bunch of that nasty, stringy, oily looking separated caramel, which... turned out to also be really runny, so, it's not a big problem right now. Also, uh... yum.

hmm i must look for one of the giant bottles. I don't like squeezing the bottle for 20 mins just to get the caramel out. i probably should just pre warm them before the rush, or secretly replace the lids with pre-cut tops :D

We just put the caramel in an empty restroom cleaner bottle and spray it on instead. Works pretty well, but it gets clogged if you don't clean it everyday.

^ I wonder how much extra CR people are going to want when they see me pouring it from a bottle that says "restroom cleaner." Hehehehe.

The magic dragon puffers won't mind much. In fact, they may request it more often. You have no idea the high you get from restroom cleaner. It's enough to make you forget what you did the rest of the shift.

I'd rather be drunk from the beer next door than high from the restroom cleaner.

Speaking of drunk, wasn't there a rumor long ago of Starbucks selling wine? Or like..alcohol mixers with coffee?
Posted 1 year ago # -
It's not a rumor, test markets sell alcohol.
Posted 1 year ago # -
Select stores sell wine along with coffee. I could Google it for you but I can't be too bothered to find it myself... I'm off the clock ya know?
Posted 1 year ago # -
Well in that case, can I get a trenta iced water?
Posted 1 year ago # -
lolol. I don't work here. Do you see me wearing a hat and apron?
Posted 1 year ago # -
I don't see you at all. But you keep responding, so I know you're there.
