So today was a pretty weird day at starbucks, first this morning i got there at 8:30 pretty slow day everyone is away for the weekend. So these two guys come in and i was with a customer at the register takeing there order and stuff and our cd case is right near the register the guy goes oh im haveing a bob dylan party can i have 12 of his cds so i didnt pay attention he looked a bit suspicious. So it got quiet no customers and stuff and it was me and another partner on the floor and our shift was doing the deposit. One of the guy picks up the 5 lb bag of pike place coffee and drops it by accident so when i saw that i knew it looked a bit weird. Then the other guy he started asking the other barista about cappuccino espresso that we used to sell espresso cappuccino what happen and he was calling her over to the bean wall. The guy with the 5 lb bag of coffee puts it on the coach behind him like were blind and cant see it! and i saw him opening up this bag when i looked i saw him push the bag of coffee behind him cause he knew i saw then i realize we really had a shoplifter. So the other guy was trying to distract the other partner so i called her over and wrote on a pastry bag that the guy is stealing to look and she saw the guy was pretending to be on the phone. so i go sir are you going to get that? First he trys to ignore me then my friend was like get the shift supervisor so i got her and she came out then the guy goes why does he think im stealing for? im not stealing i was just on the phone with my wife trying to see if she wants it to be grind and what the **** I dont know why you **** people think im stealing and then they say you kno wwho my grandfather is he said some name like were suppose to know he was like im going to come back after you work and **** find you and he was jsut threating us like wow it was pretty scary and then my shift goes dont threaten him he didnt do anything he goes i dont threaten i make promises oh the guy couldnt even walk with out a cane thats probally why he dropped it the first time. But yet the fat **** left the $40.00 5lb bag of coffe and goes away like i thought you wanted it? and his accomplice was just there saying why you guys think hes stealing for? but if anyone say a guy hideing a 5lb bag of coffee behind him on a chair opening up a bag to put it in and everytime you look over push it behind him like so one is seeing? wtf is wrong with some people. How can you just walk out a store with a big 5lb bag of coffee like no one is going to notice? so they filed an incident report and stuff that was so scary i never had any problems like that before i dont get people sometimes was it wrong what i did? i mean thats a 40 dollar bag of coffee what the hell are you goign to do with it? any advice people fellow partners sometimes i really dislike starbucks becasue they literally "lay it out" for you to steal liek wtf do you have to have everything in the open leave comments i want opinions of what people think of this

The sad part of your story is the fact that an incident report was filed. It is my experience that the Starbucks organization is so badly corrupted and incompetent that they, more times than not, will take the word of the crazy or felon customer over anything a barista could possibly say. It amazes me that an individual was good enough to be hired but not good enough to be believed. In my previous days as a retiree working at SBUX (I finally gave up because I could not deal with the incompetence of my final manager), I witnessed the younger, more vulnerable baristas get shafted, scolded and fired a number of times for next to nothing reasons and because crazy customers are disappointed that their behinds were not kissed and wiped.

Am I the only Barista that's used to this **** by now? I guess cause I'm from NYC, the stress is kinda familiar, but seriously. We get bums and crazy bitches trying to steal our stuff every day. We get **** customers who don't know how to act, but I tell you this.
60% of the customers in my store worship me, because I'm 100% friendly all the time, regardless. I've had customers who got rude with me and my 'regulars' quickly jump in and shut that customer down. It's funny, because a fight almost broke out once over that. This guy's flipping out because he wants bold and we had to rebrew it, one of my regulars said "Hey if you don't like it, don't come back." And it got to the point where he was like, "You want to take this outside?"
He stopped bitching about the bold after that day and every day he comes in now, he kindly waits if we have to rebrew it.
They're like puppies, train them.

One time this woman said she was going to walk out and not pay for her coffee because she had to wait to pay for it. I was like damn! Are people that low that they would steal a cup of coffee! That's just silly.

Wow. It really does. I've been working at Starbucks for a considerably short time, but I've never seen so many people try to rob a place. There's this old man that's a regular and everyday, he comes in to take the newspaper, says that he'll be right outside reading it... and before you know it he's gone..
This guys also likes to steal our potato chips. I mean, wtf? If I were going to steal something, I'd at least make sure it's something of VALUE!

People will always try to steal stuff...so don't lay blame on companies that try to sell stuff. Besides, if you just let the suspicious people know you're watching them, like coming out from behind the counter and staring them down as they try and put a french press under their coat, they usually leave with nothing stolen. And if they give you crap, all you gotta say is "Would you like to leave now or would you like to leave with the police?" That usually works for me.
And the regulars who come in and try to get one over on you, every single day....just put your foot down! The guy who walks off with the newspaper? Hand him bill for 8 months of newspapers....

Jesus once said, if a man takes your shirt, offer them your coat as well. I'm far from religious but if a person needs to steal from Starbucks, i believe they're in greater need than the corporate whores behind this faceless **** machine. in fact, i encourage all my regular bum customers to take **** as they leave.

I see your point, but I disagree. I would bet that MOST people that shoplift, are not doing it becuase they 'need' something, and can't pay for it. Most just don't want to pay for it. Homeless people are one thing, but from what I have seen, when I worked retail, most shoplifters are not homeless people, they are high school kids who's parents haven't given them what the feel is enough money, and they really want this certian whatever it is, so they steal it.Posted 4 years ago # -
i agree with parrotheadkrm most shoplifters are not homeless, the homeless people ask for a cup of water or something and i glady give them the high school kids and cheap adults are the ones that walk in pretend they want to know a price of an item and as soon you turn your back there gone with an item. i agree with you too jenxceed but the people who shoplifted tthey clearly were not homeless

I currenlty have an old man who steals our toilet paper from our washrooms. Also once my barista was late coming in for an open, but we managed to still get the store open on time. its one crazy woman was waiting right at 7am. I opened the door at 7am and as she came in she demanded I give her her 2 venti drinks for free because I opened up late. I explained that we open at 7am and that's what time I opened the door at. Se called me a lair and said that I shoudl have let her in early because it was so cold out. I explained that I couldn't do that, so continued to **** me out and as per "just say Yes" I gave away $10 in drinks to this crazy woman who made me feel like I was an inch tall.

If I ever saw a customer stealing stuff from my store I honestly dont think I would say anything or ask them if they stole somthing. I used to make about $9.50 an hour so quite honestly is it worth getting shot over or having crazy people wait for you after work the answear is no. I wish them well in all there endevours

I know it hits our "bottom line", which could possibly affect my hours, but I can honestly say that after enduring the 'sorbetto debacle', that sbux does not pay me enough to care. I know, that's so sad. But I didn't feel this way in the beginning. Now that's REALLY sad!
