My shift leader was violently ill during our entire shift and could not find coverage. Another colleague stayed a few hours extra to help out. But I wonder, what could I have done if it were just the two of us (me, someone who has only been at Sbux for nearly a year) and I were left to man the store while she was busy vomiting and calling other stores for coverage? I felt so helpless today but I need to know this for the future.
What would you do?
Oh man, we are a very high-volume store on the weekends so I can't imagine being left all alone while the only other partner was unable to work. But I would just power through it. Make a sign that says, "SORRY, I AM THE ONLY PERSON WORKING HERE RIGHT NOW. IF YOU ARE NOT A PATIENT PERSON, PLEASE GO TO HAAGEN DASZ OR CINNABON FOR COFFEE ---->" so the customers get their fair warning, and single-handedly own the operation.
I mean, what else can you do, really, if she can't find coverage?
