So there is a regular at my store who comes in every night to get a chocolate chunk cookie and a tall bold. EVERY NIGHT! (not sure how he doesn't get diabetes from this.) He also walks to the corner, sits on a chair and reads a book until we close. Seems like a humble guy, nice and quiet right? Well he unleashed a sneak preview of his dark side tonight.

I was cleaning up the condiment bar, minding my own business, and he goes, "I have a question for you."
Me: "Yes, sir?"
Old fart: "Why do you guys still have the AC on when it's 50 degrees outside?"

Now, I was not aware of the store being cold, and I love the cold, so of course I wouldn't have noticed...

Me: "Well sir, I wasn't aware, but I'll go see if we can turn the heat up for you"
*walks to supervisor and comes back*
Me: "Sir, unfortunately it appears that we cannot turn up the heat for you because corporate has control over that."
^I've only worked here for 4 months, so I never knew that.
Old fart: "It was not this cold here yesterday, I highly doubt corporate called you tonight and told you to turn the heat down."
Me: "Well sir, I'm not sure, this is what my supervisor told me."
Old fart: "YOU are BULLSH!TTING me."
Me: "Uh...no sir, I'm not bullsh!tting you."
Old fart: "Yes you are."
Me: "No sir...I'm not" *Walks away nervously*

My manager was here tonight, doing inventory stuff, and I felt like I should have told him about this. He comes in every night and I'm really hoping he doesn't put his attitude on me in the future. Perhaps I should just ignore him if he talks to me while I'm cleaning, but take his order if I'm on register and be fake? NEED ADVICE

I would just continue to be polite, but guarded, with this particular customer. In the future, if you experience another interaction like this, maybe politely say "I'm sorry there's nothing I can do for you, but I cannot continue this conversation if you're going to use threatening language."

Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to get customers kicked out/banned from the store, even when dealing with much more extreme offenses from customers. This is why I'm not sure it would be worth talking to your SM about.

I would tell my manager just because I tell him about any encounter where I think they might call and complain so he knows the whole story not just what they have to say.

usually, idk why, but customers that are normally really nice and then have a day where they feel the need to be a total 'a'hole for no apparent reason come in the next day and are perfectly fine and never mention it again. or apologize. its happened to me lotsa times. reular customer, comes in all the time, always delightful, one day comes in and is total biotch then the next day is totally peachy. they never apologize. apparently its ok to take out your life frustrations on people who have to serve you every day. but i do usually also tell at least the shift on duty about it just so they can have my account of the encounter while its still fresh in my mind just on the off chance that they call to complain.

at that point, I would have grabbed my manager.

1) I won't deal with people cursing at me.
2) I want my manager to witness this in case the person calls corporate.

also, we have had people banned from stores in our district before. one customer cursed out both a partner and an ASM in front of children and threw a drink to the floor. the other verbally intimidated many female partners.

nine times out of ten, when I drag the manager out front, the customer will either back down or try and pull the same BS.

i just remembered, i have heard of two times we had customers banned form our store. one was a guy that was kinda stalking one of the girls who worked there (which doesnt really apply) and the other was this old guy who made extremely innapropriate comments to all the girls. he asked one girl who had a curling iron burn on her neck that she had a nice hickey, one girl had on a lacey undershirt and he said nice bra, and he told me that i'd grown in "all the right places" and my manager told him that if he was going to make comments like that he wasnt welcome at our store anymore.

once, this old guy regular remarked about a band aid on my throat. I was covering up an insect bite. he said,"oh, I thought maybe your boyfriend bit you."

I put on a huge smile while handing over his Venti Bold and said, "oh, no! I'M the one who does the biting." and I clicked my teeth.

Maybe this is my old hagginess coming out but i would NEVER talk like that to a customer. I would NEVER invite someone to speak crudely to me, and if i was ever in a situation where i felt a customer was being inappropriate i would IMMEDIATELY call the SM or Shift and let them take over the situation. I AM NOT PAID TO DEAL WITH THAT SHITT.

My workplace is a place where i am not able to leave until my scheduled end of shift. I refuse to be bullied into feeling like i am not safe at work. If some prissy sissy comes trhough my line and has anything to say to me other than a polite greeting, a "thank you" or a resonable request or professional complaint, sorry bitchh let me get the person who is paid to deal with you.

I never cared about people calling corporate. They would always say, "Well, that's not normally how it is, what's your name? I'm calling corporate."

I'd say, "Gladly, my name is XXXXXXXX, I will also be making a report of you today so corporate can verify exactly what you said today from my perspective."

Go ahead lady. You've been gone four hours, no $0.50 refill on your LATTE. We don't refill lattes, nobody does. I never actually made a single report, you just have to let them know that you are in control of how much decaf/spit ends up in their drinks next time.

I used to work in Princeton, NJ for a month (I temporarily kinda transferred unofficially so I can save up to move to NYC since it didn't make sense to commute back and forth) and there was this one guy who kept staring. Some creeper businessy looking grease ball. IN fact, that's what all Princeton was. It was a college town because Princeton University was across the street. It was a really quaint town filled with people who were LOADED.

Anyways, back to the story, this guy was like staring at me all day. And not leaving. So I go to the bathroom and he cuts me off and invites me to go to Philly with him and the whole thing was really creepy... Anyways, the shift, a really cool girl named Sara, saw the whole thing and was like OH MY GAWD, HIDE IN THE BACK.

And so I did. Until he left. Honestly, he didn't bother me that much. Its not like he was gonna rape me, trust. I just wanted a break.

But still. That's so creepy. You don't even know me. You don't even know if i'm gay to be cutting me off at the bathroom and inviting me to Philly.

Sara explained that happened a lot in Princeton. Guys with money always try to talk to the girls. Those men were so nasty and greasy.
