Without going in to excessive detail, I am a tenured employee (hate the term partner) and am facing termination at the end of the next two weeks.
I took the liberty of filing a federal charge of retaliation against Starbucks through the E.E.O.C. The investigation process that follows the filing of a claim is quite a lengthy process. My hope is that the investigation will support my charge, but even if not, it is my intent that the wrong doings of this company and the management they choose to represent them will be brought to someone's attention. It is also my hope to provide help to anyone else who may face the same misfortune.
A brief background of the situation: I have been a faithful employee for over 5 years (supervisor) and grew tired of a co-workers constant sexually explicit comments in the work environment. I took the correct actions and followed the company's chain of command and received absolutely no help at all. Immediately after filing this complaint I received the worst review in my 5 year history (never received lower than a 2) and began receiving corrective actions based on opinion. Please keep in mind that in the 5 years of employment I had never received ANY corrective action or warning from ANY manager, ever. And of course, my hours have been systematically reduced (often less than 20). Oh, and we can't forget the best part: the co-worker providing the harassing work environment... promoted from barista to supervisor and currently enjoying a full-time schedule.
I am trying to gather information from fellow employees to see if this is common practice, if anyone has filed claims, what outcomes people have seen... you get the point. I also have every intention of banding together any SoCal employees who are interested in actually picketing/boycotting the company. I am even looking in to the Starbucks union (this is the company's worst nightmare). This is not about revenge or getting even, simply just tired of seeing good employees mistreated constantly and laws being broken all of the time. I have rights. You have rights. Everyone has rights. But big company's will not respect those rights unless people are willing to fight for them.
I see a lot of employees, present and former, who hate their job and/or manager. So I know I am not alone. If you can, help me change the crap that we are all tired of. I am incredibly stubborn and therefore refuse to put up with a bully manager and a bully company. I have no idea what responses from you guys I will get, but if nothing else, please wish me well or say a prayer that maybe even one little person can make a ripple in the ocean.
