I'm a full barista now.

Also most of our partners are going back to high school next week, so I was told that my hours would increase and I wouldn't have to look for another job.

I was excited.

The schedule came out for next week.

Yes, my hours did increase....

by 2.

I am **** ****.

I want to scream at my manager and tell him I'm competent. I'm smart. I have common sense. I am ALWAYS friendly to the customers no matter how rude they are, and most importantly, I'm not a **** like most of the employees we have. Why the **** aren't I getting more hours? I have COMPLETELY open availability? And I made it known when I was hired I wanted full time. I have bills to pay.

I called the ASM on it tonight. I asked him if it's about the insurance thing. He says not entirely because a lot of people can't work more. I explained I can, and listed half a dozen employees who can as well, and he says "Well, I don't know what to tell you, but you're getting the hours you get."

Wow, that is just awesome leadership! If I had bosses that acted like that, I would last about 12 minutes at that job! Wow, I'm sorry to hear that. That is almost unbealieveable that is so bad.

Eh, my manager puts me at, on average, 36 hours a week, but I take the initiative to stay a little later every day to add on hours. Just give it time - I asked for more hours, it took at least one week schedule to get bumped way up.

I understand where your coming from, but the fact that a lot of people have been working there for 6 months and begging for full time hours and are still only getting 19-22 really doesn't make me feel very confident.

We're all hired on as part-time for a reason-and yes, it's to benefit the company and jerk you around. Sbux thinks it's more profitable to hire a bunch of PT's than have a few dedicated FT. Don't you think it's funny that they tout themselves as the best place for STUDENTS to work? But I'd you're a grown-up like myself, MEEP, and many others here, you have to beg, borrow and steal hours just to make a living. It's the sick sad truth and the most backwards logic ever!

Accually, having full time employee's is far more cost effective then a bunch of part timers (assuming you are paying benifits on part timers that is). The fewer people you have on staff, the easier it is to manage, the fewer benifits you have to pay, the less time you have to spend training, you have fewer chances for personality conflicts, the list goes on and on. If Starbucks thinks its better to have a bunch of part timers, instead of a few full timers, might explain, at least in part why they are loosing money.

SBUX doesn't think it is better to have a bunch of part timers....maybe some managers do, though. Having the same full time staff working the same shift M-F builds customer connections. Not only that, but the team learns orders, and actually moves the line along faster. I always try to run my peak period with the same team, if possible.

I wish you were my manager IloveSBux....

I used to manage an indie coffee house and I would run it like that. Everybody would have the same hours unless they had an appointment or something. I had my opening team, my mid shift, and my closing team. The same people always worked together, with me coming in for 2hrs in the opening shift and 2hrs in the mid shift before working my 6hr closing shift. I was able to keep an eye on things, and if there were any conflicts the employees knew that I would be there and they could discuss it with me. As a result, we didn't have any of this gossiping behind the back ****. The people that didn't get along worked different shifts, and the consistency increased because people knew what their coworkers strengths were.

Going into this gig @ SBux I assumed, being a corporation, it would be run a little more professionally, but I lament to report, I was sadly mistaken.
