A ton of modules, just like barista training.

modules are so out dated that its pretty much a huge waste of time but still have to read em. id try to talk to the shifts and ask to run their shifts if thats cool with them, start with closing tills, count the safe, do the depo. stuff like that

pretty much the same as barista training, just do the modules and some hands on training w/ the sm and other shifts.

The shift training is getting an update in the next month or so. The modules won't do you much good there so outdated. I agree with coffeebeanisbetter. Start running the show. The experience of being in charge is whats important for a beginning shift.

I figured it was more modules but just was hoping to be a lot more hands on training than modules

The module SS training sucks. I can't tell you one thing I learned from it. It's time and hands on experience that taught me how to be an SS. And previous retail management experience of course.

^all this. you have to do the modules and crap because... well, it's required, but it was kinda funny because no one made me do mine when I got promoted, I literally was told, hey you're transferring next week so read these books and I got through half of them and ran one shift at my old store and then transferred and promoted... and about 6 months in my SM was all like, you've got all this unfinished training so you have to do it and I had to watch videos on stuff I already knew how to do... but I digress.
Ask your current SS's if you can run shifts, shadow them while they're doing the food order in the morning, get hands on experience with counting tills. Also make sure you understand how breaks are run- it's super simple but talk to your shifts and see if you can get the chance to deploy for the day and run the breaks so you have that experience. It's really not that different than being a barista, you just run the show while you're there, so as long as you can get the timing of the breaks down and the cash handling, which is super easy, then you'll be fine!Posted 10 months ago # -
Same here. I was opening and closing alone for months by the time they made me do all my modules and certification.

The entire shift supervisor training program has been revamped. Ensure that your SM orders the correct packet from the RP order. If not, punch them in the face. The content in there is actually quite informative and dense. It will prepare you well for all cash management duties, deployment, performance management and how to research/locate problems with your floor and the like. The modules are bundled w/ MyLearning modules and there is ample time to shadow and learn the correct way to operate a lobby and DT store.

VentingSM, I got the brand new packet. And I also had the old ones. Not very much was even different. They are meh. Until you do it with your own two hands, you just won't remember all the steps.
