So up until now ive become a person with preference with closing shifts. Love it even though the work can kill your following day while for me it doesn't so much. I've had some hilarious moments while there was one week where this regular i had no clue about neglected to leave the store. He comes in for a pike & asks for a venti cup of ice & retreats to the condiment bar. Starts making his "iced coffee" spends a good while there when its already 12:05. He leaves the store at 12:15. Other than that my closing shifts are fun but a serious haul on work. Still any closers out there? Thoughts on closing shifts?
Any closers? Thoughts?

I'm a closing shift, and at the moment I am so **** sick of all the **** the openers give me. Don't leave me to sort out your morning mess and whine when I haven't magically done the whole next open for you by 8.30pm.
Just sayin'.

Oh and the best is when I rarely do an open for them as a favour and forget a couple little things 'cause I don't really know what I'm doing - then get written up for it! Yay!

Ive overheard it as well from others in my store but i hardly ever get anything from anyone due to the fact that im extremely thorough on my lobby closing. Never done opening. My personal take is that i wouldnt make it to the store in one piece. Hard enough for me to get up at 4am to be there at 5am. Not 3am to be there at 4am.

I've been the main closer for over a year! FML!!!? It's pretty much a janitor shift. All we do is clean.. ALL, F!@$ing night!!!!!!

I wish I were a closer - I hate getting up at 4 am when my natural sleeping rhythm is going to BED at 4 am! Plus I like cleaning...because I'm weird and seeing shiny surfaces pleases me. When I was hired my SM told me I'd mainly be a closer, but no dice - it's been almost a month and I'm still opening all the time. Oh well.
girlno3 - I think there's a discussion pertaining to fast closes in one of the sticky threads!

I've closed for 2 years straight cause I was in high school and let me tell you. The **** openers give me was ridiculous. Oh, I'm sorry I didn't have time to stock up on the strawberry, orange mango and lemonade juices. I had to waste my time cleaning up all the spilled milk and iced coffee you guys left for me in the fridge. Not to mention how disgusting the machines are left.
But if you want some short cuts to getting out early, and your shift doesn't care...
teas into venti cups
take the clean grounds drawer and put like 5 or 6 coffee filters in there and use that and clean the other.
take the clean tray thing (on the machine, I dunno what it's called!) and cover it with a dry bar towel and use it while the other is cleaned.
switch the bean hoppers when they are getting done so both get cleaned at the same time.
brew your coffee in a french press and clean out the all the urnsi think that's it for now...

When you switch from being a closer to someone who wakes up at 4am everyday, it is hell on earth.

Sometimes I will come in at 10am and the dish washer/ sanitize machine is not on! and there is a pile of carafes and whip cream bottles! I make sure it is turned on so when I can I will start eliminating the dishes. If I do not do that then there will be 3 sinks full of dishes. and no cold carafes to fill up for when we run out. Start at 6am! if everyone would do a little at a time before and after their first break it would be so easy.
Yeah...its a constant thing between 1st and 2nd shift. I work mostly 2nd and I think I mentioned this before...but I feel like a rented mule.
