I need some advice I been trying to get a job at starbucks for awhile now, but now that I am 18 I am REALLY trying... I applied at three different starbucks locations ONLINE, and then I called them and talked to the managers of each, they ask me my availability, then they say they will check my application out. What should I do I really want to work here...I am going to go and introduce myself to the managers, and be like did you check my application yet, and just show them who I am...

anymore advice?

It's kind of hard to say "I want to work at that place" and just go get a job there. Maybe they're not even hiring. Maybe your resume sucks. Maybe they just don't think you're right for the job. Who knows.

I went to a job fair that my district was holding. During the interviews, I just made up stories on the spot that correlated to the STAR qualities that was on all of the interview sheets.

If you see a job posting saying this job requires: (a huge frickin' list of requirements) and your job duties will be: (a huge frickin' list of duties), make sure your resume reflects that you HAVE done that and you're fully capable of doing those tasks.

If you haven't done certain things, don't lie (obviously). But make it known you're thrilled to have the opportunity to learn.

I was a regular and they were hiring, I also in needed a job with flexible hours so I could go back to school. However, over 2 years later and I'm still not sure what I'm going to get my masters in...or do with the rest of my life :\

I applied online, got a call back in two days, and was hired within five days. They were opening a new store, so they were hiring like crazy. I think it also helped I had previous retail experience.

Change your resume to highlight things that they want to see. I highlighted my customer service 'skills', previous retail/cashier experience and had open availability.

I am going to be of no help, but here's how I was hired. I had just quit my terrible job at a restaurant in March 2011. So, jobless, I was applying to absolutely everything I could think of. I applied to Starbucks online one night, on a whim. I got a phone call the next morning from my now SM asking me if I would like to interview. I went in, talked to him for about 10-15 minutes, he asked if I would like the job, I said yes, voila. It's now been more than a year. Whoops.

But honestly, you have a much higher chance of being interviewed if you call and ask to talk to the manager or stop by with a paper resume. My SM told me it's almost pure dumb luck who he chooses to interview because we get sooo mannnnyyy online applications. He just clicks on a few random people to see if they have acceptable experience and availability. I just happened to get lucky.

I only got my job because I knew a guy that worked at my store. You might want to try making friends with a current Starbucks employee at the location you want. This past Christmas, my manager said she had 300 applicant for 3 open positions.

Advice: stop calling. Don't ever call again. GO IN AND TALK TO THEM. I'm not saying that the manager won't blow you off, but it's will be a lot harder to BS you eye-to-eye.

Fill out an application, find out if the manager is at the store, by calling (it's okay in this instance) and just asking if they are there. Don't identify yourself. Then go in and just say, "I just submitted an application online and would like to schedule an interview with you."

I heard they needed someone to work the morning shift so I called the store, spoke to the SM, let him know of my previous experience working at a Barnes and Noble Cafe (we do the same stuff) and he scheduled me for an interview.

What got my foot in the door was my full availability and past experience.

Honestly, I applied on-line,happened to get an interview. (Probably because of coffee experience and specifically OPEN AVAILABILITY) Spam called. (However, I don't recommend this)

I got hired a second time yesterday, because of previous experience, open availability, and cause....i'm cool.

Some things I personally think SM's look for when they are hiring people:
#1 OPEN OPEN OPEN OPEN AVAILABILITY! If you are still in high school...and can only work 3-close....they probably won't consider you.
#2 Know someone. A lot of people got hired at my store cause they knew someone who already worked there. Stop making friendly with the managers, make friendly with the baristas, talk to them about what they need, when they're hiring,etc etc.
#3 Be good with customers. If you happen to land an interview, they want to know you are good with customers and that you like to clean, and keep your area clean.
#4 Figure out when store's are and aren't busy, if you are going to pester the manager don't go in when the store is busy

I've had 3 interviews with Starbucks. The first time, they called, I never showed... I got a better job offer. The second time I applied at a different type of coffee place on a campus, had an interview... the manager liked me, but decided to hire someone else. She gave my resume to the Starbucks in the campus library. Had an interview... no dice. The manager was really... weird. The third time... I was looking for a second job, and so my availability wasn't great, but I got along well with the manager... she hired me on the spot.

I've also been hired twice by former long-time Starbucks managers, who worked in different coffee stores. (They both ended up hating me and trying to fire me though.)

The thing I do is to just be whatever they're looking for. I LOVE working with people! And you know what I love best about Starbucks? As a customer, I have never had a bad experience. The employees have always been super friendly and I would love to work in an atmosphere like this! I think I would fit right in. <----all lies. I hate people.

Starbucks is all about consistency in product and customer service... and I am all about consistency in product and customer service.

Also, I love coffee, I love Starbucks. Yeah! :|

Best advice I can give is if you know someone. I had previous retail experience which helped and I knew a girl who told me her starbucks was hiring. With the volumes of applications each store gets it is almost impossible to stand out from the crowd. If you don't know a barista...get to know one!!

When I was looking for a job I applied at about 20 retail locations. Got a few interviews.

For Starbucks, I applied online. Got a phone call the day after and did a phone interview, then an in person interview with SM. And a second interview with the DM.

My SM told me he hired me cause I had a nice voice and smile. Also, completely open schedule. Once you're in, you can always change your availability. It really also all depends if they really are actively hiring. I got in just as a couple people quit.

But don't just apply to Starbucks. Not like the salary is extremely competitive.

Have you tried a 'licensed store'? I literally fell into it. You are still a certified (certifiable?) SBUX Barista. It may help getting to a stand alone location.

Was interviewing for a seasonal job at the Big Box store and had full availability. Ended up getting asked if I would like to work at the SBUX on a permanent hire. Well, I had to say yes. Needed the job and it is close to home. 6 months later, I am still there.

Popped in on a whim one day. I talked to the SM for a few minutes, filled out the application online that night, got a call from him within the week and went in for a formal interview where we spent most of it talking about Louie CK and a bunch of other stand-up comics.

having worked for years as a pantry chef prior to moving probably helped though, since I know how to multitask and get work done with the quickness.

Finally talked to a NICE manager who said that he is going to be looking at applications, and wrote my name down and number...He said If i don't hear from him before or a little after friday, give him a call on Friday! So do you guys think I have a chance? he was super nice!

A friend got a job and I was looking for one. Figured why the hell not and put in application online. I then physically went to the store the next day and spoke with the manager. I was scheduled an interview immediately because they pulled my resume after I went in. I was hired 5 days later. 5 weeks in and I am finally getting reasonably comfortable with the job BUT...its everything you read in here. Definitely still job hunting so I can get a better, less physically and emotionally draining job.

You didn't tell us anything about yourself/your application. When I'm hiring, the two big things that get apps put in the "not gonna call this one" pile are:
Limited availability- One or two days not available is fine, but I get people who want shifts like "9am-12pm M-F."
Overly optimistic salary requirements- I know they say you should aim high, but I dump anyone who asks for more than $2/hr over our typical starting pay. (my state's min wage is $7.75) Why bother interviewing someone who most likely won't take the job when they find out what we pay?

And yes, I get quite a few apps from students who tell me they can only work two or three hour shifts, four days a week (no weekends) and ask for $15/hr starting pay.

Okay but you guys I called one starbucks and talked to the Manager Right away and told me he is actually going to be looking at applications, and that he is gonna be training today, but If I don't from before friday...he told me to call him??? Do you think he will call me or if I have to call him (because he ends up being busy) do you think he'll schedule me for an interview?

Okay- I would say to go in. I know other people have said this but I'll repeat it again. Fill out the application and then go in, in person, dressed nicely, to meet the manager. That way they can connect a face to a name. Make sure you've applied already though, when people come into my store and want to talk to the manager about jobs, they don't even get through us baristas to her unless they filled out an application lol. Open availability is number one, like everyone else said... I mean, if you have a day during the week where you have a lot of stuff going on, say you're not available, but then you better make sure that your other days are completely open. You can tweak that after you've been with the company for a while- my availability is so different now from when I was hired- but they want to see that for starters because making the schedule is hard enough without having employees who have such specific availabilities.
And as far as the manager you talked to- he told you to call him on Friday. Odds are he is going to get busy and you will have to make that call, at which point I would just go ahead and go in. Make sure to dress NICELY. I cannot count the amount of people we make fun of because they would show up to hand in applications (back when they were still paper) and they'd be wearing jeans halfway down their a## and ratty t-shirts... we'd all laugh about it, including the manager.
