Does anyone get the idea that we're fighting a losing battle here? We're trying to keep a fad going that has passed its prime...and in a bad economy. Coffee will never go out of style, but $4 lattes? Man, it's getting bad around here. Labor cuts, lame or non-existant pay increases, poor quality expresso, "double-chocolatey chip frappucinos." I don't know what to say, I just don't know what to say. Somehow, though, there never seems to be any lack of work to do on uncle howard's plantation.
A Sinking Ship, uh...plantation!

I think they will be around for a while because they taste good. Maybe people won't be willing to pay $4, but they'll still want the latte, and that's where McDonalds comes in.

Our business has actually gotten better as the economy has gone down. Why? People aren't spending their money on vacations and whatever else they spend their rich money on, so instead, they're spending it on us :-)

We have steady business too, it's just that customers aren't buying a lot of items at once. Remember how you could sell a bevvy, a pastry, and a lunch sandwich to ONE customer before? Now that same customer will just get a drip and a bagel! So our average ticket price sunk miserably.

I notice they are re-arranging the chairs on the top deck again. The CFO who was there for just on a year is going back to the real world and they have got another long-term inmate as CFO. Or maybe I am just bitter and cynical (this could be true I've been marking assignments for university all day - the concentrated display of how stupid people can be is somehow even more depressing in text!)

Thanks for the input, guys. Maybe I'm wrong. Since I've only been workin at the Buck for less than a year, I may lack the necessary frame of reference for comparing current business to former business.

No worries, Jobbamison! By asking, you prompted us all to observe and analyze our own environments.
And Farflung, don't worry either-beans from the Bux end up being bitter and over-roasted!Posted 4 years ago # -

This proverbial ship may sink. I have no clue but I am here for the ride that is for sure. And if it does then I will collect all the unemployment I can for my five yrs of servitude for as long as possible

Oh, I think the rats are already putting on life jackets. This company is real estate holding company more than a coffee company. That is the part of the reason they have such predatory leasing practices. The bursting of that bubble will take starbucks with it. "Jack! Jack!"
