I was informed today that we have a NEW mission statement and that the managers received the new mission statement in New Orleans. I asked my shifty and ASM if I could see this new Mission Statement, but for some reason they could not find it? What the heck? Seriously? We have a NEW mission statement at Starbucks and it is not told to the baristas??? WTF?? Not that I really care all that much about the mission statement, but WTF is mgmt doing if they don't even have the time to share it with us?? Does anyone else know what it is?
Does starbucks have a NEW mission statement?

now please excuse me but i feel a little ill....

WHAT???? Are you serious? That is so WEIRD. Nurture the human SPIRIT? I am speechless. And I want to know why my store was not told????

The new mission statement is shared with everyone in their holiday meeting. Nobody is trying to hide it. You can also find it on the portal if you do a search. I printed one out and posted it before the holiday meeting, just to keep everyone up to date...

coffeemonkey, I share your sentiments.
I read it and I'm just like: "What?? I mean... WHAT???!" Gimme a break.

IloveSBUX: We didn't get a holiday meeting. It was cancelled along with all our labor cuts. We are cutting hours like crazy, and that meeting was 50 hours of non cov for our store so our DM cancelled it district wide. :( Don't you think it seems like our manager should have told us? I have been with Sbux for over 8 years. And I don't even know there is a new mission statement? WTF?

"To inspire and nuture the human spirit..." how about the nuturing of the spirits Starbucks is BREAKING by labor cuts and working those who still get hours to the bones?
Posted 4 years ago # -
Wowsies! Nurturing the spirit??? One person at a time??? How about nurturing the hourly partners who, like Blacksheepbarista said, are worked to the bones?????
And @Anniversaryblend: I actually looked forward to the annual Holiday Meeting, and was disappointed to find out that it was cancelled and instead we're doing training cascades! (ASM trains shifties, then shifties train baristas). Oh, it's sooooo on!Posted 4 years ago # -
This has to be about the biggest load of BOLLOCKS I have ever read for a mission statement.
Posted 4 years ago # -
There is a whole set of princples to go with it. Someone posted them on StarbucksGossip right after the Leadership Conference. I didn't read them in detail but they soundsed like wordier less focused versions of the current guiding princples. IloveSBux says they are now up on the portal so you guys can check them out.
My main objection to the new mission statement is that it isn't measurable - how do we know if we are there yet????

Finally found it - http://www.starbucks.com/mission/default.asp has the new mission statement and princples

Our mgr still has not told our store that we have a new mission statement.

It is truly sad the quality of managers in ourr stores, my manager told us all about the new mission the day she came back from New Orleans and posted in in our BoH for all to read.

Ok... still my mgr has not informed any of us that we have a new mission statement. I have asked several times. What the heck is up with that? What's with them not putting up the new mission statement? I guess one of the mgmt partners tried to find it on the portal and said it isn't there?

Nuture the human spirit! Try nuturing the spirit of the hourly partners who can't pay their bill as well as the ASMs, SMs as wellas DMs etc who have lost their jobs in the name of cutting costs. What a load of crap! I personally was almost glad to be rid of the harrassment and stress which put my health at risk the last 6-9 mos. I was with the company. After 10 years and all I was trying to do was support 2 grandkids and keep my benefits. For that I worked off the clock daily to support the co. Support? I think NOT

BUX is worse off than I care to believe. My "name" for this blog, "Five Star Service", as taken from the Legendary Five Star Service quote you learn on day 1, was the name of the game. I quit the BUX when I ended up with a manager who believed the mission statement was "do whatever the rules, regulations and guidance manuals had to say about literally every facet of the store even if they were contrary to what the customers deserved and expected". I still see customers who find the store uninviting, dead and with no personality. I had fun in the store with the customers and they appreciated it but apparently the new manager found my actions to be inconsistent with the rules. It amazes me that the so-called new mission statement does not even recognize customer service or quality of product. The BUX is "nurturing" themselves to obscurity.

Just read how they plan to deliver this new mission statement. Proper buttock-clenching. Who is actually able to write this stuff? Especisally the stuff about the neighbourhood and the diversity. Yeah, the company embraces individual style so much that we have all come up with shifty ways to disguise piercings and stuff. I was even asked to dye a little patch of hair at the back of my head that is naturally a different colour from the rest.

Seems to me the new mission statement is "throw long-time dedicated baristas under the bus; issue and attempt to implement ludicrous, ill-planned policy changes every week or two; crowd the stores with a treasure trove of stupid/ugly/expensive/non-coffee-related crap nobody wants to buy; create and try to force awful new undrinkable beverages down customers' throats". (Disclaimer: I don't work for bux, that's just how it looks from my side of the counter.)

I think big Howie ought to "mosey" on over to DC and ask for a bailout. Sure as heck everything they are doing is getting them closer to the toilet. Howie laments the change from local coffee shop but all his latest actions, including a ridiculous "mission statement" that says nothing about "Legendary Five Star Service", and new policies that make customer and barista appreciation a transparent sham, are a recipe for disaster--as if that has not already happened; once they decide to cut back on many of their benefits (health for 240 hours), they will lose any good baristas and just have Walmart personnel, which will not go over well with the yuppie crowd, who are willing to pay the big coffee bucks as they are schmoozed by competent baristas. In store sales are down, but their incurred debt from expansion is high and must still be paid as revenues decrease. They are between a rock and a hard place with nowhere to go.

I only have two words ... DAMN IT! I think that sums up how I feel nicely.
Posted 4 years ago # -
I think we've been had, people. Notice how even after the huge changes and losses we've endured, Howie STILL HAS NOT APPROACHED HIS "PARTNERS", THE BLOOD AND SOUL OF THIS COMPANY!!!
I don't know if he forgot, is being oblivious, or simply doesn't care--we are left to speculate why we were left off the priority list.Posted 4 years ago # -
I could have sworn our mission statement was "to teach rich people that they can be **** and still get whatever they want, one cup at a time."
